Houston National Golf Club
About
Houston National Golf Club, located in the northwestern part of the city, definitely follows the old adage that "everything is bigger in Texas." This whopping course stretches to 7,337 yards from the back tees. It is a lengthy golf course no doubt, but it doesn't just favor those who can hit long. The layout has a unique links design, so long hitters will be pleased but they will have to be careful of the numerous pot bunkers and other strategically placed hazards waiting treacherously throughout. The golf course has an interesting character that sets it apart from others nearby thanks to a landscape of rolling hills and hardly any trees, a surprise since there is no shortage of trees in the area. Houston National Golf Club's wide-open links design also subjects golfers to the strong prevailing winds, making several of the holes especially tricky.

Greens are in excellent shape.
Fairways have many places that need to be leveled and filled in.
Traps are basically not sand
First time Golfer
they give wide fairways so you don't have to worry about hitting houses and plenty of friendly people were on the course and watching from their back yards . This was my first time ever on a course and I got a 105 out of 72 for the course . so if I could do well , so can you . I now know what I need to work on . hopefully I can get back there soon .
Rough Ruff
I’ve never seen so many hills in the Houston area so that much was fun. However, the rough was really deep and because of the layout and a lot of blind shots.l, we had a lot of lost balls that we were hunting for and in fact on the second hole an almost 600 yard par 5, we had to hunt for two balls that were just off the fairway and in looking for the two missing balls we found 6 balls that had not been found before us. That hole is also cart-path only so you can imagine how much walking up and down the hills on a 600 yard par five for two guys in their 60s in the middle of the day was very draining. The clubhouse bar was nice, driving range was fine but around took almost 5 1/2 hours. All although a good day and I definitely will return knowing the course a little better hopefully will live up to the challenge a little better
Could have been even better
We played in two hours. But with the presence and help of a marshal, things would have moved better. How can a club like Sterling/Houston National not have even a single marshal during a morning round?
Another suggestion: it's summer in Houston. If the course can't have more water stations, how about a beverage cart????
Not worth your time or money
After arriving to the parking lot I could see the course wasn’t in great shape. The course should’ve been closed until it dried out dried from two solid weeks of rain. Every sand trap was filled with water that had been there so long that there were several turtles in them. Some fairways had lakes in the middle of the fairways. It was so muddy. The grass was so wet and the grass was so long even in the fairway it was hard to find your ball sometimes. The only positives were the tee boxes and greens were in decent shape. Also no yardage markers on cartpath or the center of the fairway. I don’t have a rangefinder so I had to either guess or walk around until I could find a sprinkler head. Definitely won’t be playing here anytime in the near future. Also the driving range was closed.
Okay for the price
The fairways were in rough condition but the greens were not bad. They were a bit slow but ran true so no complaints there.
Poor condition
Very poor condition all around. Can’t believe a course can call themselves Houston national and could be in this condition. Fairways, bunkers, greens, tee boxes you name it was in poor condition.
👎👎 Houston National
When booking I was not notified greens hadn’t healed from being punched. Fairways chewed up. Local member stated they have no course maintenance. Terrible conditions, they shogun embarrassed.
Roughs = really rough shapr
So I have to give credit where credit is due. Hurricane Beryl was on Monday so the grounds crew probably didn’t have time to manicure the rust. However, the course was in really bad shape weeds in the fairways, the greens were horrible, the Fairways had tons of bare spots. So I would give them time to try to bring this course back up to par.
Bunkers well improved
Course in great condition and greens were perfect. Last week some bunkers had standing water, but not this week, great job,🙂
The only one and kinda huge complaint, there's a few holes cart path only in 100+° heat. This is very excessive when it's dry as a bone on said holes. Please take out the cart path only holes unless really needed.
Other than that, staff has always been great, especially Tennessee.
Great place to place during the weekday.
Very casual pace, layout was challenging but not too difficult. Enjoyable day of golf.
Terrible course save your money
Fairways are absolutely trash. Golf carts are trash. No beer and burger if booked through GN. Save your money and play literally anywhere else.
Too much money for the effort
Course is in bad shape…many fairways need help.
Greens were average.
The pace of play was terrible.
We did get a deal on lunch but the staff was not really concerned about our satisfaction.
The cart service ended at 3:00PM on a very hot day.
Must have been a bad day. I haven’t played here in a while but I remember it being better.
They still have great deals for veterans during the week but expect what you pay for.

I can't imagine what you'd think of a well maintained golf course. This course has been virtually ignored since Covid arrived. BTW a 105 on one's very first round of golf is outstanding. To the point that it's a little hard to believe.
