Course Highlights
Sienna's layout earns high praise for its challenging elevated greens and diverse mix of holes rarely found in the Houston area. Affordable pricing, well-maintained fairways, and genuinely helpful staff consistently make this a top value pick.

About

Holes 18
Type Semi-Private
Par 72
Length 7151 yards
Slope 132
Rating 73.7

The Arthur Hills/Mike Dasher-designed Sienna Plantation is a flat, wooded course that has been enhanced to provide elevation changes. The result is a challenging track that rolls between lakes, creeks, and the native hardwoods that dominate the landscape.

In terms of playability, you'll primarily notice the abundance of risk-reward decisions that are required throughout the round on this course, which tips out at 7,151 yards.

Out of the chute you'll be challenged immediately-the opening two holes play as a 427-yard par 4 and a 601-yard par 5. It lightens up a bit on holes 3-4 with a reasonably short par 3 and a short par 4, but holes 5-8 can blow your score up quickly if you're not on your game. No. 6 is a monster 251-yard par 3 sandwiched between two 450-yard par 4s.

On the back it's more of the same, with the nine opening with four 400-yard plus par 4s. Both par 3s are over 200 yards, and the par 5s are each well over 500 yards. The only real birdie opportunity for the average handicapper is the 320-yard No. 16.

Getting there : Take Hwy. 59 south to the Williams Trace exit. Turn left on Williams Trace to Hwy. 6. Turn left and drive 5.5 miles to the Sienna Plantation main entrance. Turn right and follow the signs to the Information Center.

Manager is a Jerks

I booked tee times for customer meeting using golf advisor. We got rained out. I asked the Sienna staff to help me rebook. The guy was a jerk and told me he could not help out and that I needed to go through the website. The website was not working and suggested that he just let me play at another time. He refused and was rude to both me and my customer. He also made a big deal out of using separate carts to protect against COVID. We offered to pay extra and he was still a jerk about it. Obviously, they don’t want business which is why the course is empty most of the time

I recommend Qual Valley which is down the road. Same price. Nice course with restaurant. People working there are all very nice and polite.

Rude and disrespectful clubhouse staff

Let me precede by saying that I'm a business owner myself so I don't ever give out bad reviews for other businesses bc I want everyone to succeed and do well. But this experience was too similar to all my other previous outings here to ignore once again...if I don't write this, things won't ever change...

I finally had some precious time off to get away and get in a round of golf. I booked online for a tee time early enough to make sure I could finish the round before it got too dark. I even arrived an hour early to check in. Inexplicably, when I checked in a second time with the starter about 15 minutes before my tee time, they rudely told me I was bumped back to a different group 45 minutes later bc the group I was paired with had changed from a threesome to four. Then, when I noticed the next few groups who were now in front of me were all teeing off as a fivesome, I asked them why they were allowing that for those groups but not for me? Of course, they not only had no answer but continued to be rude. It was busy plus it was Thanksgiving week so I tried to brush it off and stayed as calm and polite as I could but I told them it was still bad business to not respect my time and honor a tee time that was booked and paid online in advance. If they can't honor my tee time, then don't offer it online. Needless to say, the pace was slow due to all the fivesomes just as expected, so I was unable to finish my round due to darkness. Had I been allowed to start on my original time, I would have been able to play a full 18 instead of only the 15 holes I did. Very disappointing considering how rarely I get to get out and enjoy playing a full round like this. Still, that didn't bother me as much as the rudeness and insensitivity of the clubhouse staff to my situation. I've actually played here a couple of times before over the years and I've always experienced the same unfriendly vibe just not to this same extent. It's like they don't like or take pride in their job or something. Oh well. Too many other nice courses around here to keep coming back to a place that neither values nor respects you as a customer. I won't be back.

Course in good condition but very slow day

5 hour round today because we had to wait on every hole. Not sure what caused the slow down because 2 twosomes in front of us were waiting as well. No marshals in evidence to help speed play. Having said that enjoyed the course, nice layout, greens were in great shape and quick. Tee boxes and fairways a bit dry though, maybe a function of this time of year.

Don’t Sienna Reason to Return

The course is in an unkept condition. I don’t think the fairways or tee boxes have been punched and sanded in over 3 years. The maintenance crew doesn’t seem to know what to do— they had several busted sprinkler heads around the greens and the response was shoveled sand on the wet spots. While waiting on a tee box a groundskeeper drove his cart over the tee box (probably adding to very hard tee boxes). Numerous times I had to hammer my tee into the ground with my driver because they were so hard. The fairways were also very firm, which i found made the course more interesting from a playing perspective... Some good shots ended up in the rough or awkward lies because of the roll. The challenge was good but the firm fairways did a number on the golf carts. My cart had lost its break lock function so I had to cut the wheel like parking a car uphill.

I also found it very frustrating that none of the tee boxes had yardage markers on the par 3s. There is a tee marker with the yards, but nothing on the actual hitting surface so you were guessing yardage if the tees were moved. The fairway markers were easier to find, but not as many as you’d want. Speaking of finding your distances, it was often difficult to find the next hole. There’s several places where carts cross under or over the roads but no signage saying you should cross or not (it was also confusing because sometimes the cart path would meet up with a sidewalk— thereby making it hard to know the right way)

The greens were in good condition, especially compared to the rest of the course. They seem to be watered and cut well, and rolled pretty smooth. A lot of greens had unprepared divots. The green on 10 looked like the moon— I wondered if someone was actually chipping from the green because the gashes were larger than a divot.

Anyhow, I play a lot of golf around the Houston area and for $40 on a weekday this course is not worth the money. There are plenty of other courses in the same price range that are much better.

Solid course - hard tee boxes.

I enjoy this course. Most of it is too hard-pan, however. The fairways are not as lush as they should be. Tee boxes especially need some watering. Greens are slightly above average and typically rock hard, with roll that is ok but less than perfectly true.

Hole 18 fairway is often littered with white range balls. Install a net on the range! 18 is hard enough as it is!

The Man

The greens were better than last time, but there is no grass in the fairways. I know this time of year Bermuda grass does dormant, but hard to hit irons off hard pan.

Great course but typically slow

I love this course, by the way. However, it typically plays slow. I never see a marshal and seems like every time I play it play is slow compared to other places.

I had a breakfast taco from the grill and the lady managing the grill was very nice and the taco was good.

Nice Greens

I've played Sienna Plantation a few times and like the course. I was hitting balls on the range and it was like hitting out of a fairway bunker, very sandy. The tee boxes were hard as a rock and difficult to get your tee into the ground. The fairways were dry so the ball seemed to run out more than usual with light to moderate rough. The greens saved the day though. They were nice and tight, rolling about a 10 -11. Overall, still a great day. The course just seemed very dry. I did see the maintenance team working on the sprinkler system, so maybe there's an issue that is being worked on.

Good course, dry fairways

Greens are in good shape. Fairways could be watered a bit more as they are a bit too hardpan. Tee boxes tend to be hard as a rock, but this has improved this year.

Grouping of players should be more strict, as jam ups always occur on hole 2.

And put up a net or something to stop range balls from littering the 18th fairway. The hole is difficult enough without that annoyance.
