A Northwest gem
Played this course twice this summer and it has quickly become a favorite track of mine in Illinois. Course layout is great, challenging but fair. Greens were pristine and true. Upon arriving, one of the staff came to my car immediately to retrieve my golf clubs which is always appreciated. It is a different layout than most courses, not just all doglegs. There are some very challenging holes, not many gimmes. Excellent value for the money! If there is any knock at all it is quite a drive from the city. I will be back again and again.
Hidden Gem
Just got done playing an early morning round, followed by a practice session on the range and new short game area. Talk about a place that does it right. Stonewall was in amazing shape for the amount of play the head pro said they have had in the last two weeks. Our group fell behind on a couple holes and the GPS alerted us we were behind. The GPS was definitely beneficial for our group and fun to use. Definitely a place that makes you feel at home and at a private club. Cant wait to make it back for another round..
bad greens, slow play
This USED to be one of the best courses in Illinois. The greens were in terrible shape, slow, and not consistent (worse than a good muni). Also, on a Sunday, there was a bachelor party that slowed the pace of play drastically. Brought my friends to play for the first time. They were very disappointed.
Greens and Tee Boxes were beat up
I do not like to complain, but you asked....
Service was non existent in the bag drop
Rental clubs sucked
Tee boxes were butchered - does anyone fill divots out there?
Greens were badly spiked up around the holes and no one repairs ball marks!!
Nice layout, I'd like to play again but Thunderhawk, Pine Meadow, McCrae, Cantigny and others are much better
Staff in the pro shop were not even welcoming or engaging
Food at the snack shop (brat and hot dog) were lukewarm not even hot
We didn't even hang out for beer afterwards - we went somewhere we knew we'd be treated better
Played Cantigny last month and it was great service!!
Come on Stonewall step it up!
Thank you for playing at Stonewall Orchard and we appreciate the feedback. Let me address a couple of the concerns you had on August 7th. We had 220 golfers that day and unfortunately we had a couple days of rain prior that really softened the greens. We apologize if the bag drop was not present when you arrived, we typically have 3 working and with the busy day they were cleaning carts as they came off the course because they had to go right back out. Our rental clubs are all Titleist AP1's and in excellent shape. We have addressed your other concerns internally and assure you this is not the norm at Stonewall Orchard. We hope to see you soon and thank you again for your feedback.
Great track
This is an excellent course, great condition, beautiful and challenging layout, and personable staff.
Thank you for playing at Stonewall Orchard and for the positive review! We appreciate the feedback and will continue to provide an exceptional customer experience.
Nice, but nothing special
No elevation changes, little hole variety. Starter and beverage people wer great and very friendly. Guy in pro shop seemed disinterested and unfamiliar with course and the area in general.
Course had been over-watered and the greens were beat up from heavy use on wet grass. Standing water on lots of hole even though it had not rained. Fairway shots were almost always mucky.
Always outstanding
Its always a treat to play Stonewall Orchard. The staff is almost as amazing as the golf course and surroundings. I usually only write reviews when there is a negative issue but I've been playing here regularly for over three years now and I rarely play anywhere else. This is the penultimate.
Tough Day At Stonewall Orchard
Wonderful course except for the lake next to the green on the 18th hole. All employees especially are very professional but not very friendly. I live in Glenview so the ride was long but worth it. Just go to Stonewall Orchards Website to book. Top course in the North and Northwest suburbs of Chicago!
Slippery floors
Course was in great shape no problems except that they amour all the floor of the golf cart and steering wheel. Spend the whole round slipping on the floor and my hands falling off the wheel while leaving a slick film on my hands and having to wipe them off every time I got out of the cart to hit or anything else. Even if you wear a glove which I don't its still a problem
After Bittersweet--Go Here!
I played at Bittersweet on Saturday (played at Stonewall Friday) as Stonewall had an event Saturday. Suffice it to say, Stonewall Orchard is as near as you can get to a private club experience without the cost. After playing Bittersweet today (and Golf Visions has ruined that place), it made me long for the professionalism of Stonewall Orchard. They get it there, and they appreciate the customers. Cost is not so much an issue....a good experience is and that is what i get at Stonewall Orchard, no matter who is behind the counter. Anyone up north, play at Stonewall. It is the best you can get.
Stonewall
Very nice course, pace was slow because of a five some in front. Don't know why they let this happen
Love this course, but
The fairways were too soft and wet, the greens were too firm and fast, and the traps were firm or filled with water. The greens were hard and did not hold the shots. Also, was not informed that the cart path only restriction was lifted while we were around the fifth hole.

Beautiful course. Truly majestic. Had an awesome
Experience. Great staff, great course.
sick course!!!!
Amazing golf course. So much fun. I'm gonna palt here all summer
When the price is right only.
I'll play this course for $55 early Spring rate but won't spend the $95 they charge on weekends in season. It just isn't that good of a course. I don't like the design of several of the holes, especially the goofy third shot on the par 5 eighteenth which has to fly a couple of real stupid mounds that front the green, blocking your view of the landing area which is fairly small with water behind left, right and long. I am not long enough for this course's forced carries on some holes and even though I am fairly accurate I lose balls on this course more than usual. I've moved up to the 6,000 yard tees but I still don't really enjoy a round on this course. If I was a better golfer, I guess I might like the challenge but this place beats me up and and I don't get a good feeling about my price/ value experience. And cold, windy weather with carts restricted to the path didn't help either.
We appreciate the feedback regarding the difficulty of the course, it is one of the more testing layouts in the area. We have hosted multiple US Open Qualifiers, are one of the host sites of the Illinois PGA Section Championship and are hosting a Web.com qualifier in June. General customer feedback is the more times you play, the more familiar and enjoyable it becomes. Please check our website as we do offer off-peak rates during the season. We hope to see you again and thank you for your feedback.
One of the best in Chicago area
We play here several times a year. Course is always in great condition even in MArch and in Novembet. Greens are among the best always quick. Only issue with this course is the 18th hole is not a well designed hole. I have played all over the country for 40+ years and this is a great value when you can get a deal at $60 or less (golf now).
Early Spring at Stonewall Orchard
Overall the course was OK but it was early spring and nothing has grown up. There were no racks in the sand traps. The greens were OK but again it was early spring. The course and golf now charged $55 to play and this was way too much this early, they should charge a maximum of $35 this early in the season. It will be interesting to play again in the summer to see the difference in play.
Great Course
Stonewall is among my favorite courses. It is very challenging from the tips. It is much more fun for me to play from the whites. Still challenging, but no long carries. The greens are the best you'll see at a public course in the Chicagoland area, and better than many private courses. They roll true and fast. All holes have their charm, and there are plenty of ways to get into trouble. No matter that tees you use, course management is key. If you're not hitting the ball particularly well, you can enjoy the scenery and the wild life. Some very protective sand cranes inhabit the property. Sometimes it seems as though they are following you around the course. The staff is very friendly and the view from the veranda with a cocktail in hand after a round is magnificent.
One of the best courses in Lake County
The course is great because it is challenging and fun. A fee risk reward holes make the course fun. Good for all skill levels.
Late season round
Stonewall played great on this early November day. Greens were rolling true and fast, and the rest of the course was in better than expected condition for so late in the season. Friendly staff and helpful player assistants riding around the course (found my ball in the leaves off the fairway on one hole).
Always a challenging track from the back tees, especially on a day with winds gusting over 30mph. Just wish Stonewall was closer to the city, but well worth the trek.
Thank you for your feedback. We pride ourselves on having the best greens in the state. Unfortunately, with the rain we received days prior and over 220 players on the course the day you played, the greens did take some abuse. We did our best to try and speed up the slow group referenced by having the Marshal speak to them multiple times and sending them messages through our GPS System. We encourage you to come out this fall and experience Stonewall on a day that is less crowded. Again, we thank you for playing at Stonewall Orchard and hope to see you soon!
