sick course!!!!
Amazing golf course. So much fun. I'm gonna palt here all summer
When the price is right only.
I'll play this course for $55 early Spring rate but won't spend the $95 they charge on weekends in season. It just isn't that good of a course. I don't like the design of several of the holes, especially the goofy third shot on the par 5 eighteenth which has to fly a couple of real stupid mounds that front the green, blocking your view of the landing area which is fairly small with water behind left, right and long. I am not long enough for this course's forced carries on some holes and even though I am fairly accurate I lose balls on this course more than usual. I've moved up to the 6,000 yard tees but I still don't really enjoy a round on this course. If I was a better golfer, I guess I might like the challenge but this place beats me up and and I don't get a good feeling about my price/ value experience. And cold, windy weather with carts restricted to the path didn't help either.
One of the best in Chicago area
We play here several times a year. Course is always in great condition even in MArch and in Novembet. Greens are among the best always quick. Only issue with this course is the 18th hole is not a well designed hole. I have played all over the country for 40+ years and this is a great value when you can get a deal at $60 or less (golf now).
Early Spring at Stonewall Orchard
Overall the course was OK but it was early spring and nothing has grown up. There were no racks in the sand traps. The greens were OK but again it was early spring. The course and golf now charged $55 to play and this was way too much this early, they should charge a maximum of $35 this early in the season. It will be interesting to play again in the summer to see the difference in play.
Great Course
Stonewall is among my favorite courses. It is very challenging from the tips. It is much more fun for me to play from the whites. Still challenging, but no long carries. The greens are the best you'll see at a public course in the Chicagoland area, and better than many private courses. They roll true and fast. All holes have their charm, and there are plenty of ways to get into trouble. No matter that tees you use, course management is key. If you're not hitting the ball particularly well, you can enjoy the scenery and the wild life. Some very protective sand cranes inhabit the property. Sometimes it seems as though they are following you around the course. The staff is very friendly and the view from the veranda with a cocktail in hand after a round is magnificent.
One of the best courses in Lake County
The course is great because it is challenging and fun. A fee risk reward holes make the course fun. Good for all skill levels.
Late season round
Stonewall played great on this early November day. Greens were rolling true and fast, and the rest of the course was in better than expected condition for so late in the season. Friendly staff and helpful player assistants riding around the course (found my ball in the leaves off the fairway on one hole).
Always a challenging track from the back tees, especially on a day with winds gusting over 30mph. Just wish Stonewall was closer to the city, but well worth the trek.
A little on the wet side....
Course was still drying out from 2 inches of rain two days before. Very wet, extremely breezy, which made the course extremely tough. New gps is great, but a lot of messages to return to cart path when you are not doing anything wrong. Range is fantastic, and course is very scenic. Definitely play on dry day without 30 mph wind. If not, course is definitely on the tough side. Did get good rate from Golf Now though.
30 mph breeze means bring your A game.
My favorite public course in Chicago. Worth the effort to get here.
Great course
This is a great course. It's a little on the expensive side for me at their regular price but my Hot Deal of $56 w/cart for each of us was very fair. The course is in great shape and a very unique. It is challenging and your shots are best if you know where they should be placed but I guess that's with any course. The pin placement that day was rather tough and the green's were rolling true and fast but again we managed. Overall if you are an avid golfer and understand or know a good course when you play it, this will be one of those courses. Enjoy......I did!!!
Simply Great
This is one of the best courses out there. Hard but not to hard and if you can play it a few times it will really start to come to you. A good mix of water, sand, trees, and hills. It is worth the trip from anywhere in the Chicagoland area.
Don't use the phone
Nice course but they charged us $12 more than the online price because we called in a reservation. I asked why and they said it cost them more to "man the phones". $36 more for our group because we used the phone. That's redicious. A nice course but not customer friendly.
Great course and just as friendly staff!
I organized a little group outing for work and worked with Jeff to set everything up. He was very accomodating considering our party size changed a couple times and gave us a great group rate! Beautiful course and well maintained. Everyone there (Starter, Ranger, Bar Staff) were very helpful and accomodating, especially with some tips on the greens. Tough course where accuracy is key. I'll definitely come back and play, and likely have Stonewall Orchard host our outing next year
Only 3.5 stars this time
Stonewall is a great modern track. We had a nice day and round however I have to downgrade them because the sand traps are basically mud and/or hard pan. Many of the fairways were also completely overwatered so you got virtually no roll on the ball. The course was in great shape other than that and the greens were really fast/firm and slick. Too many ball marks not repaired or repaired correctly and also noticed a few of the greens had putter swipes/divot frustration marks on them from golfers who aren't very good putters getting angry because Stonewalls greens are some of the fastest around....
Given the premium rates you have to pay to play this place (usually over $50 plus plus) the sand traps should have some sand in them rather than a layer of wet thin sand (at best) or mud. Sure it had rained the previous day but even then despite them raking the traps.....they just aren't very fair/playable. Many of you will say just avoid the traps.....which is really tough to do at this course so have to take easily a star off for that and the over watering......
Nice outing
Course was in very nice condition though tee boxes were a bit rough. Greens were fast though in good shape. Mosquitos on the back nine could be abated with spray/fog. Slow play despite the "10 minute spacing" (maybe their clock is faster than most).
Nice Public Track
Very challenging the day we played due to high winds. Course was in excellent condition, not crowded, friendly people. Especially difficult where there were blind tee shots (if you haven't played it before).
Wow
Nothing bad about this course. Everything is top notch. I will defiantly go back - numerous times
Stonewall Orchard
Great course, quick greens, lots of hazards! Good variety of tee of positions to ensure the course is manageable for all handicaps.
Great for a public course
I have played plenty of private and public tracks and these greens were among the fastest I've played. I wish the patrons would replace or fill their divots but I guess that is to be expected at a public course. Only problem was we had to cut round short because of lightning. Still need to play last 4 holes!
Love the greens speed
The course is forgiving if straight of the tee. Driving range is nice. The ranger was very friendly and did not push.
We appreciate the feedback regarding the difficulty of the course, it is one of the more testing layouts in the area. We have hosted multiple US Open Qualifiers, are one of the host sites of the Illinois PGA Section Championship and are hosting a Web.com qualifier in June. General customer feedback is the more times you play, the more familiar and enjoyable it becomes. Please check our website as we do offer off-peak rates during the season. We hope to see you again and thank you for your feedback.
