Golfer Reviews
Beautiful hill country course
About 30 minutes from downtown Austin is a gem of a course. Course was in great shape though the greens had been punched within last 12 days. Typical Arthur Hills resort course that follows the lay of the land which has great topo with very generous fairways. No housing on course and made it around in 3 hours on Memorial Day afternoon. Staff was very friendly and even helped me exit through a goofy entrance/exit gate that was not manned. It’s not Barton Creek but you don’t have to stay at resort to play and it’s a lot less expensive. Also probably gets less play than Barton Creek.
Love this course cut terrible conditions
I know the rain has been a lot lately but a few greens had mini bunkers on them. All the fringe and edges hadn’t been mowed. Bunkers were all wet and muddy
Grass wasn’t mowed. Have always loved this course and have played it for 10 years plus. Worst shape I’ve seen it
Such a shame. For $400 a night for a room the course should be immaculate
Come on guys
could have been better
from the get-go, appeared as though not much effort was put into the golf experience ...that said view others take on it... a wedding, on the course, was planned so staff may have been focused on that ...but... makes no excuse for the poor upkeep, in general, of the greens .... appears to me it was allowed to fall into disarray ....that stuff happens,,,seasons / too much rain / not enuff...whatever ! but, price one pays should reflect that, in my opinion
thus no real value in my opinion
Great Course
We go down to Wolfdancer about twice a year and it never disappoints. Greens are coming in nicely, but a little slower than usual. Fairways and bunkers are in great condition. Staff is awesome.
Texas Hill Country golf
Great track with some great views of the Texas Hill Country. The native grass areas should be cut lower though. Good luck finding your ball in those areas and if you do, you can forget about getting a club on the ball. Miss the fairway by a foot and it's a penalty because you can't find your ball. Greens were okay but still a ways from great. All in all we had a great day on the golf course and I'll definitely come back.
Still a treat in Austin
I've reviewed Wolfdancer 3-4 times already and have given it 5 stars every time. As a few of the previous reviews mention, there is a bit of a poa outbreak at the moment, most notably around some green surrounds. I wouldn't say it affects golf shots, but it does just give the course a bit less of a polished aesthetic, so those paying the peak resort rack rate (which is the area's highest besides Barton Creek) might leave having expected more. But the gorgeous scenery is still the same and it's a rare course 'round here where you don't hear housing construction going on. That's why I come. I thought the greens rolled nicely and there were putts dropping all day in our group (humblebrag!). I saw a lot of crew members out there that day so I would expect that they'll have the course dialed in for summer. .
The staff couldn't have been better and the bev cart came early and often (which was needed!).
Everything about this course was great, except for the greens. Weeds have overtaken the grass around the fringe and skirt of the greens as well as on the green itself. Not worth the price tag.
What could have been
The layout of this course is truly above average...that is the highlight. The conditon of the course left a little to be desired. The greens had just been top dressed with sand (sure would have been nice to know that!) making them very difficult and untrue. The grass had not truly grown all the way in yet...not sure if that is a product of the time of year or what (although other courses in the area were fine). Staff her were just so so...not overly friendly.
Pace and conditions sorely need attention
Based on reviews and friends who had played, I was looking forward to playing this course. The staff was excellent. The layout very good. Alternatively, the condition of the greens and around the greens were poor. Our t time was at 11:50. Then greens had not been mowed. There were patches of green implanted and lots of poa annua.sticking up above the surface which greatly affected the roll. There was an abundance of 3 inch tall poa annua around the greens. Our round was 5 and a half hours, No marshalling. Can`t go back.
What you expect at a resort course
This resort has a nice welcoming feel to it. The drive into the resort is nice unto itself. The pro shop and restaurant are very nice. We had lunch there. The golf course is an excellent layout, great conditions, and very challenging. There are many elevation changes so pick the right tee box for your game or expect to be overwhelmed. There are many picturesque holes and the back nine or a at least the last 6 have that classic country club feel. Good luck!
Dont fall for the short par 4s.
Very fun layout with PLENTY of bunkers protecting every green. Played from the whites making couple of the par 4's drivable but must be accurate....I was not.
They really wirk with you!
Our reservation time hit a snag when we did not anticipate getting everyone there on time but they accomadated us. Their helpfulness made this trip to Austin epic despite our lack of timliness! Thank you
What’s happened?
Wolfdancer is a good course no doubt about it. But no longer is this a top dollar course. Great facilities as always. Friendly staff. But let’s talk about the tees and greens. My word. The munis in Austin are in far better shape right now and for $100+ on a Monday I’d pass for the time being.
Greens and Tees Bad
Waterfalls for the Wolfdancer. First time playing the course, and wish the greens and tees were in better condition. Amazing course, 5 star layout and potential. Holes are memorable and beautiful. Plays fairly wide off the tee, but highly suggest playing up a box as approach shots are full of trouble. The greens and tee boxes were rough though. Greens were bare in spots and had sand over them trying to smooth them out. Tee boxes had been cut down, but unfortunately it looked as if many of them were completely bare of any grass. Both are playable, but can’t be compared to top conditions. Fairways, traps, and the rough are great. Overall, amazing course. 5 star layout. Serene scenery. Very playable but I hope the greens get in better condition by late summer.
Great Course, one of the best that I have played
The course is beautiful, challenging and extremely well maintained. I took my son there for his birthday. We had a super time, the staff was great, it turned out to be a great birthday present. I would recommend this course to you all. We will do it again.
Give the Greens a Few Weeks
The course and it’s setting are beautiful, and the layout is thoughtful. But the greens are pretty rough right now. They were *heavily* top-dressed, and the speeds were really inconsistent. I’m sure they’ll be better in a couple of weeks, but I’d hold off until then.
Unlike any other
It had been 10 years since I played the Dancer. I had forgotten the many pleasures I encounters again.
First, never saw another foursome the whole afternoon.
The setting is so beautiful. No buildings, no houses just a wonderful peaceful setting.
Course layout is among the best around.
Greens have seen better days
For the price, one would think the greens would be better. The green for hole # 2 is essentially dead and scalped. Many of the greens were similarly affected but not to that extent. I can attest that they had top dressed and appropriately treated the greens with care weeks ago. It just happened, unfortunately. But the greens are fast and break true. However, staff is extremely friendly and cart girl made at least six visits on a weekday. The carts have GPS but the stop monitors are at least 100 yards from the greens. Many holes (not just par 3s) are cart path only.
