Golfer Reviews
Great golf course. Great layout in scenic hills of TX.
One of my favorite courses in the Austin area. We frequently see birds of all kinds including Hawks, Road Runners, Cardinals, Quail and more. The views of TX farms and ranches are spectacular. The setting above and along the Lower Colorado are hard to beat.
Love the cpurse.
Great course
Great course, love the layout can be challenging but in such great shape you don't mind the extra strokes. Nice practice facility, really friendly staff who act like they are happy to have you there.
Beautiful golf course
Challenging course
Maintained well and the staff was great!
Would play again
A Must Play in Texas
Played here yesterday for the first time although I have been to the Hyatt a couple of times. More then worth the drive from Houston to play, especially with the deal I found on here. Was greeted in the parking lot and made to feel right at home. Staff was wonderful and course was in great shape. The views are wonderful and this is a must play for every golfer. Will definitely be back and try and make a guys weekend out of a stay and play here.
Good for HotDeal price
Nice 'resort' course.....too bad they had sanded greens a few weeks before.....why they do this in prime golf time is a mystery to me ! Only one real 'signature' hole and only one hole that used a big hill on the property. Fun to play once for the price (hot deal - only way to go) but would not be worth Full cost ($165).
This is a in your face, challenging golf course.
If you are looking for a course to really test your golf skills, this the course for you. Make sure you are playing from the tees that fit your skill level, ortherwise be prepared for a kick in the pants.
Very challenging course. Outstanding new GPS system in each cart
This course has some elevated and sloped greens and tons of sand around the greens. Course is well maintained
One of the best public courses in the Austin Area
The month of August in Texas is a nightmare for all golf course superintendents, but Wolf Dancer seems to be surviving the summer just fine. There are no houses on the course like many courses in Austin, and the course is both challenging and very scenic.
One of my favorite public courses in Austin.
Best course in Austin area
With the local rate, it's a great deal! Best course in the Austin area. Challenging and fun and the staff is always friendly. Great facility. Can't go wrong when you play at Wolfdancer.
Outstanding Course in a beautiful setting
A great mix of holes set in the hills and down in the river valley. One of the most challenging courses in the Austin area, but no ridiculous fairway slopes or tremendous carries. The only thing that could be improved is the condition of the bunkers. Extra kudos to the marshal delivering iced towels. Nothing better on a 100+ degree afternoon.
a memorable round on a great track...can not wait to return...
thoroughly enjoyed my round at Wolfdancer...it is quite a long drive from Austin but worth the trip...every staff member I met made me feel special...and the course -- wonderful layout that forces you to use every club in your bag...tough greens, but fair...one criticism, the bunkers could use some work -- most that I visited are in rough shape...the Golf Now deal was incredible value for money...
Overall Very Good
We were able to play for $50, which is a great deal for this course. Greens were in great condition and rolled true. Fairways were great - some were a little hard, but that isn't uncommon in the middle of summer in Texas. One of my favorite courses in the area.
Good course , but is has an annoying feature
Wolfdancer was a good course for the amout I paid through Golf Now. I certainly don't consider it a $100 a round course, but I suppose they have a captive audience at the resort. It shares the same annoying feature that the Hyatt in San Antonio has, which is trees in the fairway. For some reason the course designer decided that well hit tee shots should also need some luck. There are some holes on Wolfdancer that has an unnecessary tree blocking a shot to green that is completely unnecessary. Stupid design! Also, be aware that if you play on a weekend, it will almost for sure, be a 5 hour round. It is set up to play very slow. The much review super fast greens were not that fast. Many hadn't fully recovered from whenever they airerated. They were still pretty rough. Overall, a good course but nothing really special.
Challenging, Well Maintained Course
The course was in great shape and proved to be very challenging. The fairways are generous for the most part, so you want to hit them...if you don't, the rough is thick and can be difficult the hit out of. Several of the greens could have been in better shape, but all proved difficult. The deal we got from GolfNow was a steal, but I am not sure the round would have been worth it if we had paid full price.
Wolfdancer is a lot of fun to play.
There are some really tough holes mixed in with a couple of resort like cupcakes. The greens are the biggest challenge with plenty of undulation on most of them. When I played here in mid July 2013, the entire course had been aerated. I wish I had been told, or offered five bucks off, or something like that. It made for the some bumpy putts. I know it has to be done...just tell us about it. Overall a fine experience!
Course condition
When I called and asked if the greens had recently been aerated, the guy said "yes, but they are holding and looking great". Only to get there and they were aerated two days earlier and were the most terrible greens I have ever played on. A total waste of money.
I'm sure the course is great in the fall.
Challenge & Escape
Escape in more ways than one at Wolfdancer, part of the Hyatt Lost Pines Resort west of Bastrop. This property is a revelation in its sweeping country and river views, elevation changes, routing, and length -- all less than 5 minutes (and more than a few blood pressure points) from the bustling Austin-Bastrop growth corridor.
Fast, undulating greens will also give you the feeling of escape--if you leave the green in bogey or better. GPS in carts; USE IT to stay on the right side of the pin, usually underneath. Greens are fairly consistent throughout, so you'll probably get all the chance you need to gauge speed and break.
The amenities and course conditions are pretty well worth what you're paying, even if you think it's a little on the high side. This is not bargain seeker golf.
