Looking out on #2 Fairway Photo submitted by walt02554 on 08/25/2013
Course was not in good shape. Grass on tee boxes was sparse with many bare spots. Some greens looked damaged/diseased and running super fast on dirt. A number of bare spots and Unmowed areas in fairways. No starter or Marshalls in sight on Fathers Day. We have played this course a few times in the past 2 years, today was the worst course conditions yet. Not a value at over $200 per golfer.
Waste of time
Might be the biggest disaster of ruining an awesome course I have ever seen. Pre 2020, this place was incredible. Always in good shape and worth paying a premium. I don't know who they hired to maintain the course but I wouldn't hire that person to mow my lawn. They shouldn't be charging $50 let alone $200. It's ashame, the club house, the staff, and the layout have all the makings of a great place, which is used to be, but it is sad to see what it's become.
Not Hyatt quality
Would expect more from a course associated with Hyatt. Beverage cart staff was good but otherwise the staff could not be bothered to speak or be helpful in anyway. Course is in pretty bad condition and the greens were a wreck. Again, no apologies or concession by the pro shop staff. This place is on the higher end of cost in the area and it is not worth it.
Wanted much more
I really wanted this course to be great or just very good! Judging from the price and talking to some staff when deciding where to play our 3rd and final round of our trip….we chose Lost Pines. Was a bit more of a drive, but would have been well worth it if the course was in good shape! Starting with the good, green complexes were challenging and fair….rewarding a good shot although definitely on the slow side. There were some spots where the grass was thin or a bit spotty, but overall good. Bunkers were extremely inconsistent, some with deep fluffy sand and some with very little sand and large stones. Tee boxes were the worst I have ever played as there was very little grass and some were wet, muddy and slippery. Lady working the pro shop in the morning was very friendly, but seemed like everyone else there could care less if we were there. Green surrounds were very patchy, but to be fair, the staff said they were working on that as a project.
Lost Pines Golf Club
Course was in ok condition, pace of play was pretty good most likely due to the weather that day, it was 98 in the shade with a feels like of 111. Had a good time even with the heat!
Excellent
The course was outstanding. It was in great condition and I love playing every minute of it. What really stood out is the lady who works at the pro shop. She’s the friendliest nicest lady I’ve ever met at a pro shop in my life.
Absolutely not worth the money
I live in the area and have played this course several times. The property was bought-out about a year or so ago. The course use to be reasonably priced and in excellent condition. Since the ownership change the prices have sky-rocketed for both a membership and daily play. But even more of a concern is the condition of the course. At this point in the year most area courses are in excellent condition for half the price. LP has problems with all areas. The fairways are sparse and brown. The greens are rough and all have less than complete grass coverage. Most of them I would consider unplayable. Even the sand traps are hard and full of rocks. Walked across one of them without even leaving foot print indentions. It is a great but difficult layout that needs good conditions to be playable. I do not recommend paying this property until something improves.
Woof
Course is in awful condition. The only reason for one star is it doesn’t allow for zero. Played fast. Wish we could have played faster so the experience was over. Would not replay for free.
Bring your A game
First of all this course is not for beginners. The course is extremely challenging but offers alot of fun if you play it right. The staff couldn’t be friendlier. The amenities are excellent, the practice facilities are also excellent. My only complaint was the rough is very long. Also there are areas where almost immediately when you get off the fairway your ball is unfindable. The course is alot of fun but for $160 to $200 a round it seems like it’s not a great value. Especially when Star Ranch is $80 to $120 a round and in much better condition.
Great Course with avg to low maintenance
The course layout is very good. Challenging and entertaining.
I’m a 7 hcp and it wasn’t easy at all. I played the blues.
Holes 10 to 12 are in great condition. As you would expect for the money you pay (+170).
The rest are avg to low. Fairways are good’ish but the greens surroundings are bad. It is just those 0.5-to-3 yards that are in bad shape.
Greens are generally ok’ish except for a few that are bad and 3 great (holes 10-to-12).
Tee boxes are good to great.
The area outside of the car paths have way too long grass making it 100% impossible to find balls. If you miss fairways, you certainly lose the ball. Nevertheless, most holes are wide enough. So not too bad.
IMHO it’s too expensive for the condition.
Priced to high for conditions. Great layout with big serious potential
Nice electric carts with GPS. Really cool/tricky layout with elevation and tons of awesome views over all unique. Current conditions are decently rough but being activelyrepaired, with some decent chunks under repair on the fairway and most annoyingly on the fringe which non-existent and or under serious repair. I'd check back in a couple months it has serious potential and prob was sick when it was indy Ratner than bare bones effort by some resort group. A few greens were beat up/rough but nothing that really effected the score effected our enjoyment, but unless they got to like under 80 for twilight or fix everything I'd pass and play star ranch or falcon head for similar peak proce. If they fix everything they could compete with those clubs.
Stay away from this course
Lost Pines is by far the worst bank for your buck golf course I have seen in the area. Everything in the pro shop is completely overpriced greens, fairways bunkers everything on the course is in terrible condition. I wouldn’t play this course for 40$ let alone 150$. This course needs immediate attention the overall staff is fine nice enough people but they have zero control of pace of play and setting up tee times. I have never seen a golf course so poorly taken cared of I saw people golfing with no shoes on with a tee shirt and basketball shorts. I would 100% not recommend anyone to come out and play this course this place should be out of business.
Not worth the Price
Although a decent course for a resort, there are better ones at better prices within the 30 min radius of Austin. Fairways and greens were in rough shape, probably due to the time of the year, but others were in better shape.
Club house closes early as well. Unfortunately not the best experience, and it was our 1st course of the golf trip. Things got better after this.
Typical for Lost Pines
Booked for a Friday. One must realize that pace of play for this course is at best 4.5 hours. On Fridays and the weekends it is a little more. We were a twosome, and they placed a single with us which is expected. Trouble was his first shot off the first tee was followed by a string of foul language. This continued on most holes - maybe four holes where this didn't occur. Pretty miserable day for him as well as us.
Rainy Day
Course was in great shape with some bare spots on the collars. Green were rolling true but had a difficult time with speed due to rain. New carts were a huge plus! I’ll be back this summer hopefully on a dry day!

Perfect example of Austin's inflated golf scene
Watched this course steadily raise the price from 2018 to now. No improvements just Austin's golf scene as all courses are succumbed to greed. They're pricing people out with 40-60% price hikes over the last 3 years especially.
None of this money goes into the course, the grass is dead year long, and it is just a travesty.
For a state that enjoys year round golf, there is no reason that prices should be this high in relation to the quality of the course you get (every where). $200 to play, $40+ for 6 beers, all for one day of mediocrity
Convenient and Comfortable
The course is close to where we live. The next closest courses are more than an additional half hour away. It is a course at a resort, so golf is not the primary business. None of the holes start nor finish at the clubhouse. There is no restaurant or bar open at the clubhouse. It is a fun course and not too challenging unless one plays the longer tee boxes. Looks like they have finally put some sand in some of the bunkers.
