Bring back Wolfdancer
When Wolfdancer became Lost Pines Golf Club everything started to go downhill. Tee boxes are neglected, bunkers are neglected, and greens have gone from some of the best in the Austin area to slow, unhealthy and bumpy. They tore out 4 ending holes. These included a fun drivable par 4 a longer par 4 with a slanting green, a nice par 3 where wind was always a factor and a great finishing par 5 that made match play interesting. The new holes are not as good as what they tore out. With the increased greens fees and decreased quality Hyatt has lost my business.
Enjoyable Course but
Played Lost Pines for the first time. Nice layout and played about 6400 yards from the white tees. Beautiful views. Not too demanding. Greens are receptive and very consistent in speed. Traps need to have more sand. The few that I landed in were more packed dirt. I was a bit disappointed in the tee boxes, very inconsistent with a lot of bare spots and had to move my tee up position a few times due to uneven footing(holes that were unseen). Understanding it’s a resort course and gets a lot of play, I was glad I had a discounted rate, as I see a rate of $190 a bit overpriced for this course. The 18th hole’s fairway is pretty torn up due to some wildlife destruction, but that didn’t figure into my review.
Challenge
Several tees allow differing skill level players to compete. Course design is uniquely built into area topography creating unique and challenging holes. Back nine some greens were damaged but it didn’t impact our play.
Played mid week with a little rain so not crowded and we played in just under 4 hours.
Not worth 180USD
Staff and club house were really good but the course conditions are lackluster. The greens are in TERRIBLE shape with huge patches where there is no grass and where grass is present is super slow and bumpy. Greens look sick, really need help.
Fun course yet needs some attention/love
Good overall layout and nice redesign of holes 10-14. Bunkers need a refresh and 4-5 greens are suffering from fungus/burnout. Attention to the bunkers and the 4-5 greens is a must to keep this course’s reputation as a destination must for avid golfers.
Awesome staff, brutal greens
The greens are in terrible terrible shape at any level of evaluation and especially for the price point. I’ve been playing this course for years, they use to pride themselves on their greens, but they are in rougher shape than a low end municipal course.
The property is gorgeous, layout fantastic, staff awesome. I thought the fairways were in great shape, tee boxes unmemorable (so they couldn’t have been an issue. It’s just not manicured to the level I had come to expect.
The rough is also an issue on some holes - dead grass where they mowed and makes it hard to find balls on some holes. Several areas too overgrown.
When the greens are on point, this course is worth the premium.
Terrible green condition
Very good layout
Ok tee box
Terrible green condition
Need more care of course condition
Always a Treat
Wolfdancer is probably my favorite course that you can play in the Austin area. The greens had been sanded, so that’s the reason for my conditions review. The four new holes starting the back nine are outstanding, with the new par five being perhaps the best hole on the entire course. I can’t wait to play it again
Lost Pines = Lost Cause
Course was in terrible condition. Greens were burned up and dead. Tee boxes over-grown with weeds. Fairways in decent shape. Rough way too high for a resort course with piles of brown cut grass everywhere. Hard to find a ball in the rough, literally had to step on the ball to find it. Fairways were nice and so was the staff. But this place has gone down hill big time, which is a shame considering what this course used to be.
My favorite course in Austin
The greens have just been aerated and sanded, and there are some bare spots due to a fungus. But, I expect that the greens, usually outstanding, will make a comeback. The rest of the course was in tiptop shape, and the new holes (10 through 13) were great, with the new par five being amongst the best holes on the whole course. I also like that the course now ends on a par five. It’s a bit of a splurge, but the quality and challenge of the golf course is worth it.
Great and challenging golf day
This course is quite challenging and you really need to think and calculate where you are going to hit every shot. The course was in very good condition, although the tee boxes really need attention. Some of the greens are also burned/not up to scratch, but overall the bunkers and fairways are in good condition.
Growing Pains
I’ve played Lost Pines for years and it is usually in great condition and managed well. Pricing and a rather difficult course layout keeps me away but I picked up a twilight tee time with a few buddies yesterday and was not impressed. The greens were in the worst shape I’ve seen, tee boxes were in bad shape (looks like they are re doing those), and there was no cart girl/snack shack. For $60 hot deal twilight round it was worth the money but I will wait to go back until it’s in better condition.
California Golf
The layout of the course is excellent. I believe a PGA event could be played there.
The course is full of risk and reward golf. Staff friendliness was excellent.
Lots of elevation changes which makes fun an challenging.
