Looking out on #2 Fairway Photo submitted by walt02554 on 08/25/2013
First time at Wolfdancer
Unfortunately the greens were punched recently and were slow and bumpy. The bunkers were also in poor shape. Teeing areas grass was too long. I liked the course outside of the condition. Might be fun. Wasn’t worth the money.
Overpriced and under maintained greens and tee boxes
I really want to love Wolfdancer and there are certain aspects of it that I really like. The staff at the club house, drivers of the beverage cart, rangers, etc. are all extremely nice, top notch service. The course layout is extremely challenging and I love that there are no houses out on the course. You really feel away from it all when playing here aside from the last few holes on the course that put you near the resort guests and pool...no biggie.
But...my biggest issues with the course are the tee boxes which were not maintained...we were essentially teeing our balls up in the "rough" - that's how long the grass was. Also, the greens are not in acceptable shape EVER. They're ALWAYS punched and sandy. I've played this course 4 times this year (2022), once in May, once in June, and twice in August -- the greens are always in the same dilapidated conditions, punched and sandy. You never get true rolls.
I've held off on reviewing Wolfdancer until I played here multiple times because I really want to love it here...there's so much potential. It could be the nicest publically accessible course in Austin, but when you factor in the cost of the round, the undermaintained greens and tee boxes, and the gas that it takes to drive all the way out there...it's honestly not worth visiting.
I hope reviews like this will spark some attention and investment in what could be an amazing, top notch course.
Not on Par
Bunkers are in poor condition. Mostly dirt.
Green's were slow in recovery after over three plus weeks ago of aerification.
Tee boxes loaded with Crabgrass.
Just not the standard of a Hyatt course.
Great day
Went with my son on my birthday staff was great it was like they knew it was my birthday
Course layout is great length of holes varied and design of holes each a little different
Not worth the money
Interesting course and definitely challenging, staff was very nice and accommodating (lavender scented damp towels were nice on a hot day!). However, poor grass, aerated greens, empty ball washers and poor tee boxes made this definitely not worth the $150 a round they are charging.
Used to be much better
More than 5 horrible greens where you'd have to move your ball to putt a line without an old badly cut hole or sand traps and bumps in the middle of the green.
Probably more horrible tee boxes than good ones. Some tee boxes were worse than greenside bunkers, and the bunkers were very out of shape.
Used to love this course. A favorite to play. Probably won't go back for a year to see if it can figure itself out.
Play this course if you can find a great deal
This course was in amazing shape, firm greens so that ball will roll forever, fairways very well maintained. Will try to come back and play here
Five Hours Thirty Minutes
Five hours and thirty minutes is how long it took to play a round of golf here. For the price they charge you would think they could afford to enforce pace of play or actually moderate tee times. They are also getting ready to remove two of the best holes on the course so they can expand the hotel here.
Too expensive for what you get
Purse layout is great. But at $168 a round after tax, the course is not nearly in good enough condition for the money.
Wolfdancer
The staff at the course is fantastic! The starter gave out some tips before teeing off which was welcomed. Some of the tee boxes are in bad shape as well as some bunkers. The greens had a lot of sand on them as well as some significant dead areas. With that being said it's a nice course layout. Since it was my first time in the course the in cart gps was nice. Due to the current course conditions I don't think the price of the round is worth it.
Wolfdancer is currently making some new holes due to resort expanding our and taking current holes. Will play here again once new holes are completed.
The wolf
It was one of the most scenic golf courses I’ve ever played loved it , I’ve play courses in California and Florida all through Alabama but this Texas gem ranked as my favorite
Great course
Challenging, that is for sure, but a fun course to play. The green were being aerated and very sandy which was a disappointment .
good course, but way over priced
I actually really like this course, BUT, it's so overpriced for what you get. the tee boxes are usually jacked up. the course itself is awesome. great layout and design. it's just not a $180 course, which is usually what you pay. the greens had be treated too and they gave me a discount (not much of one, i still payed $158). to pay $160 for a course with jacked up tee boxes and treated greens??? highway robbery. i'll be back, because i do like the course, but i've played top jack nicklaus designed courses without greens being treated and paid much less.
Golf course
Wolfdancer is a great golf course it’s very challenging. It’s a great place to play a round of golf if you are in Austin Texas. Employees are very friendly, especially Julia who works at the pro shop, she is an excellent customer service person. She went out of her way to explain everything especially when I told her this was my first time playing at Wolfdancer, she made me feel at home.

Don’t play til July
Greens are absolutely horrendous right now. Punched last week, but there is damage far beyond the aeration. I would not play here until July, and that’s if they water A LOT.
Got the deal time for $80, but still not happy. It’s a $35 round at best right now. Better off on the munis!
