About
Hutto’s been put on the golf map now that the first-class Star Ranch has opened up on what was once a cattle ranch, boasting a unique collaborative effort from the Morrish brothers (Jay and Carter) and the Bechtol, Russell design firm.
The course sits on a hill and is built around a centralized lake, featuring the typical spectacular Hill Country topography highlighted by plush, undulating fairways and bleached white sand bunkers.
No. 2 is one of the most difficult holes and the first real challenge of your golf day. The 417-yard par 4 has more of an open feel than some of the other holes, but it’s length generally means a rather long approach, and the green is surrounded by several massive bunkers.
Getting there : From Austin, take I-35 north and exit Parmer Ln. Turn right and go east on Parmer to Dessau Rd. Turn left and go north on Dessau, which becomes FM 685. Go 5 miles past FM 1825 in Pflugerville and the club is on the left.

Impeccable conditions
Very reliable conditions year round of the many in Austin. Greens are perfection, great back nine, sand traps are top five in town and it’s a really score -friendly, fun course. Value used to be outstanding with the all you can + buffet breakfast / lunch but that’s gone and it’s still $90. Bottom line: the golf is good so I’ll keep coming back a few of times a year for sure.
Nice Course
Layout allows variety of tees to make course as easy or challenging as you like. Great conditions, only issue was pace of play a little slow and no real effort to speed it up. Group in front usually had an entire hole open on the front nine. 4:20 round not too bad but weekday afternoon expect 4 hours or less.
Course is in impeccable shape!
Love the over-seeded fairways. Not one blemish or dead spot on any of the greens which is rare around here with the lack of rain we’ve had. Even the top courses in the area have a few dead spots, not Star Ranch! I’ve always loved this course & now it’s even more lovable! Everyone on their Maintenace and guest services staff deserves a healthy raise! Amazing job!!

NIce Course
Good layout and value for round when using Hot Deals.
Pace of play was only negative. Not bad but a little over 4 hours. One group was holding up 3 groups but rangers don't really do anything if the group is "on-time".
Maybe shoot for 3:45 round and then hustle them along.

I would love to see them add GPS to their carts.
Wide Open
Fairways are wide open and provide room for error, especially for novice golfers.
Best public course in the austin area
Great conditions , not overpriced…the highest rated course on golf now for a reason. Range balls with the round is def a major plus.
Great condition
The greens are in great shape and the rolling fairways are so lush and well kept. I get a links style of golf and the back nine is really pretty. Some very gettable holes with everything playing nicely in front of you. Not too many blind shots. Highly recommend.
Sandy greens but enjoyed the course
Normally enjoy my time at star ranch but the greens were heavily aerated and sanded and the range was closed which was unexpected. With the hot summer they're trying to keep carts off of certain holes which is fine but would prefer if the bunkers were in better shape and a little bit less sand on the greens.
