About
Hutto’s been put on the golf map now that the first-class Star Ranch has opened up on what was once a cattle ranch, boasting a unique collaborative effort from the Morrish brothers (Jay and Carter) and the Bechtol, Russell design firm.
The course sits on a hill and is built around a centralized lake, featuring the typical spectacular Hill Country topography highlighted by plush, undulating fairways and bleached white sand bunkers.
No. 2 is one of the most difficult holes and the first real challenge of your golf day. The 417-yard par 4 has more of an open feel than some of the other holes, but it’s length generally means a rather long approach, and the green is surrounded by several massive bunkers.
Getting there : From Austin, take I-35 north and exit Parmer Ln. Turn right and go east on Parmer to Dessau Rd. Turn left and go north on Dessau, which becomes FM 685. Go 5 miles past FM 1825 in Pflugerville and the club is on the left.

Greens in great shape, good pace of play
The greens were rolling great, and we played in 4 hours and 10 minutes as a fivesome. We got stuck on the highway due to a bad accident, and they were accommodating to help shift some tee times around and let us play as a fivesome so we could still play. It's a shorter course so if you are a longer hitter I would recommend playing from the tips so you don't have a wedge in on every hole. I play here a couple times per year and it's always in good shape and good pace of play even when busy.
Greens good, fairways crispy
Seems the the greens are always in good shape which is a big plus however the fairways were rather crispy during this hot Texas summer. Traps could use some fluffing up or deeper sand as the hard pan underneath is only inches away on most. Wish there was some shade on the course but for overall value this course is always a treat. Love the starter shack, bev cart came around often w ice and 4 hour round....all appreciated!
Great course. Well kept considering we are in the midst of exceptional drought and triple degree temps all summer so far. Hats off to groundskeeper!
best course out there
This course the amazing! super well kept and fairways are wide! stunning views and fair play! its the best public course here in the greater Austin area for the money!
Great Texas course
It’s amazing how nice the fairways and greens are maintained at Star Ranch. You wouldn’t have known the drought and string of 105+F days had occurred. The course layout is forgiving except for the ubiquitous sand traps, but even the sand is nice since it’s resort quality and well maintained.
Makes for fun golf
Great range.
Great staff.
Course doesn’t have a ton of trouble so it makes for fun golf. You’ll likely shoot your lowest round here.
Fantastic Day
Played with my Son-in-Law & Grandson today, was a very hot day, 105 at 3:30, but was able to complete a round in 4:15, course was in great shape, pace was on par, definitely will be back
One of the best courses I’ve played in the Austin area
One of the best courses ive played in the area for the price. Great conditions and some of the best rolling greens I have seen so far out of the 10 courses I’ve played in my short time in Austin. The course is pretty open but still challenging with the opportunity for all levels to have fun.
Greens were fast and smooth. Bunkers were excellent. Pace of play was great. 3.5 hours for our foursome
Thank you staff
The staff, especially Bryce at the check in were exceptionally helpful. I made anl error in booking a hot deal so that our foursome was divided into two pairs but at two different times. This is a problem that I did not expect the pro shop to untangle- it was MY mistake. But when the other party checked in, Bryce asked them if they would mind teeing off 18 minutes later and they were fine with that arrangement. So, I want to commend Bryce and the starter for seeing this thru even though it would hav been entirely appropriate for them to just say 'sorry'
The course itself is in great shape. Fairways, greens, tee boxes- all great. Course is forgiving yet you have to do your work if you want to card a score a birdie
The practice facility is the best in town- the practice area is worth the price of admission alone
Course great by no releaf from the heat.
Course is in excellent condition. All tee boxes fairways and greens are very well kept. There is just nothing near any of the tees, fairways or green to duck under to get releaf from the heat. but otherwise exceptional golf course. Cart person came out 3 or 4 times during the round so we bought gatorade to deal with the heat.
