The Golf Club Star Ranch
About
Hutto’s been put on the golf map now that the first-class Star Ranch has opened up on what was once a cattle ranch, boasting a unique collaborative effort from the Morrish brothers (Jay and Carter) and the Bechtol, Russell design firm.
The course sits on a hill and is built around a centralized lake, featuring the typical spectacular Hill Country topography highlighted by plush, undulating fairways and bleached white sand bunkers.
No. 2 is one of the most difficult holes and the first real challenge of your golf day. The 417-yard par 4 has more of an open feel than some of the other holes, but it’s length generally means a rather long approach, and the green is surrounded by several massive bunkers.
Getting there : From Austin, take I-35 north and exit Parmer Ln. Turn right and go east on Parmer to Dessau Rd. Turn left and go north on Dessau, which becomes FM 685. Go 5 miles past FM 1825 in Pflugerville and the club is on the left.

Not common of course, but this happened one round when the cows from the neighboring field decided the grass was greener on the other side. Photo submitted by GordonATX on 07/03/2013
Lots of fun
Better than average condition, bigger than average fairways for the not so strait drivers.
A little pricy unless you catch the specials but worth playing.
Breakfast, lunch, range balls and as many holes you can play - great deal!
The grounds are very well maintained - the greens were, well green, which is quite a feat during the Texas summer (100°+). Well worth the money.
Great day of golf
Course in very good shape, easy check in and pace of play superb. Free breakfast/lunch with the round a bonus. Very good shape all the way around.
Great Course
This is a great course if you can play it for a discount. We started at about 5:00 and finished just after the sun went down. One thing that I really wish courses would put more effort into is making sure that people are keeping a steady pace of play. The foursome in front of us waited until they had any entire open hole before they would tee off, even on par 5s. For all of my fellow golfers out there, be courteous to the golfers playing both in front and behind you. The course was in great shape from tee box to greens and had some holes that most people would only see in a country club. A very friendly staff and top quality practice facilities were also part of the deal. i would definitely play this course again.
Excellent golf experience
Star Ranch is a well-run, well-maintained golf facility. The people working in the golf shop and food and beverage area are courteous and professional. The course itself is currently in good condition. Tees, fairways and bunkers are excellent. Greens appeared to have been aerated several weeks before, so the surfaces weren't perfect but they were very playable and rolled true. Short iron shots backed up and medium irons rolled out just a few feet. We went off at 7:45 on a Sunday morning and never had to wait for the group in front, so we finished about 11:00. After a quick buffet lunch - included in the green fee - we played another 18 at no charge (replays are free, based on availability), again, in about 3 hours and 15 minutes. It's a fun course to play because it features plenty of variety but also has fairly generous landing areas, which obviates the need to spend too much time looking for lost golf balls. The holes are framed beautifully and the greens are challenging without being too severe. My buddy had never played it before and was so impressed he wants to go back next weekend.
Little bit of everything
This course has a little bit of everything -- slight elevation changes, well-placed bunkers, undulating greens, water hazards, challenging pin locations, open (no houses etc) yet not too forgiving. The driving range is nice and you'll almost always hit off of grass and not mats. The clubhouse is nice -- great porch with rocking chairs for that post round beverage.
Best shape ever
Havent played the Star in a while....wow.The fairways are better than I have ever seen them.Lush.Greens rolling really good as usual.A hair on the fast side compared to average but not too much.I was really impressed.Keep it up guys.
Nice Course
Grass and greens in great shape, would play it again but
twilight cost seems a little expensive
Always great conditions.
One of the best things about Star Ranch are the greens. I have never played there when the greens have not been rolling true. It's the one thing I look for when playing golf...are the greens in GOOD condition...and at Star Ranch they always are. I don't think there are any tricky holes that the average player has to worry about.
Course in great conditions
We knew the storm was coming in but decided to play anyways. Didn't mind the rain but once the lightening started we got off the course after hole 4. Staff gave us full rain checks and we plan to go back soon!
food and golf
course was in great condition. played from the whites and was very fair. played 18 could have played more if we wanted. suprisingly the buffet was good. burgers, hot dogs and enchiladas.
Great Course!!!
This course never ceases to satisfy! It's always in great shape and a great value.
Course is in great shape
Course is well kept and flawless. Challenging course but not to difficult to get low scores. A must play if you are in the Austin area.
Good course for all skill levels.
The course is in great spring shape. Greens roll true. A few challenging holes to test you course management. The par 3 15th hole is one of the most scenic in all of Texas.
Great Conditions Interesting Course
Greens roll true, nice firm grass on fairways, even beyond the cart paths very good conditions.
A GREAT twilight round
The greens were extremely consistent and maintained. I will be back for twilight many more times.
Course was in great shape!!!
Enjoyed playing. Will play again soon. Great for the long ball hitter.
GREAT SHAPE, GREAT VALUE
The course was in great shape. Played on Saturday, April 13 2013. The course was great, the pro was great. Kinda ran into a grumpy kid whiletrying to quickly get some of the breakfast spread to go at the turn. But hey, great day, great value, etc. Round of golf, cart, practice range, PLUS breakfast and lunch if you want it for about 60 bucks!!! Awesome value.
