About
Hutto’s been put on the golf map now that the first-class Star Ranch has opened up on what was once a cattle ranch, boasting a unique collaborative effort from the Morrish brothers (Jay and Carter) and the Bechtol, Russell design firm.
The course sits on a hill and is built around a centralized lake, featuring the typical spectacular Hill Country topography highlighted by plush, undulating fairways and bleached white sand bunkers.
No. 2 is one of the most difficult holes and the first real challenge of your golf day. The 417-yard par 4 has more of an open feel than some of the other holes, but it’s length generally means a rather long approach, and the green is surrounded by several massive bunkers.
Getting there : From Austin, take I-35 north and exit Parmer Ln. Turn right and go east on Parmer to Dessau Rd. Turn left and go north on Dessau, which becomes FM 685. Go 5 miles past FM 1825 in Pflugerville and the club is on the left.

Golf with my Son
Played Star Ranch more than ten years ago. Great track then, even better now!! Great staff and facilities. Only negative was the terrible tasting water on the course. It was cold though!! Fantastic deal on Tee Off!! Looking forward to playing again very soon!!
One of my favorite courses
This course is a challenging course, but one of the most enjoyable courses I’ve played. Like most people, I’m usually in the mid to upper 90’s. It held the same for this course.
When your ball hits the green, it actually leaves a divot. Putting was challenging, but in a good way. They seemed to be a little fast, but consistent with all of the greens.
Well Maintained
It’s obvious the operators of this course take pride in this course in the way it is maintained. Other public courses can take note.
Aeration
Beautiful course, but should’ve received a discount for newly aerated and sand pounded greens.
Great place to play in Austin TX area
Played a round at Star Ranch with my son this weekend and the course was in very good shape.Greens were thick and fairly quick like we like em and the fairways were also very thick and easy to hit off of them. The cart girl came by at least 4 times so we were able to grab a sandwich after the turn and plenty of refreshments. All the courses have gotten more expensive these days but for the money, you get a great course, decent pace of play and another opportunity to have a blast with friends and family.
Great Course and Greens
Hadn’t played here in a couple years and forgot how it’s an overall great open golf course. It’s currently in good shape especially the greens.
Doesn’t disappoint
3rd time playing here. Overall love the course especially for the price. I know a lot of people say it’s an absolute perfect shape while not 100% perfect still really great shape. Great layout with a lot of challenging bunkers. Some bunkers were more playable than others. Couple of greens had some dead spots but overall rolled great. A few tee boxes also were down to just the dirt. Fairways were in great shape. Will be back for sure.
Future 5 star rating
So I’ve played here well over 20 times and have never had a bad time nor have I had any problems with their conditions. Always a 5 star round at star ranch. Bravo to their greens keepers / staff y’all do a great job there for the value!
Always in great shape
This remains one of my favorite courses in the Austin area. I had reservations because after I booked the teetime, I heard they just aerated the greens. However, once I got there I couldn't tell. They didn't have large aeration holes and rolled as expected.
I've played here many times over the last 20 years, and have always found it in great shape. My only complaint is how high the green fees have risen.
One of the best maintained courses in the area
We keep coming back to this course because of the overall condition. The fairways and greens are excellent. The only real complaint is the sand traps. Regardless of how much rain we've gotten, there simply isn't enough sand in them and they are unplayable.
Most of the staff is really friendly and nice, although the nicest ones seem to be volunteers. A couple of the guys that run the desk can seem like they don't really care about the patrons.
Great practice facility, with excellent practice balls and plenty of chipping and putting areas.

Simply amazing
This place is absolutely awesome. From start to finish the staff, the course, the pace, the food, absolutely awesome!
