About
Hutto’s been put on the golf map now that the first-class Star Ranch has opened up on what was once a cattle ranch, boasting a unique collaborative effort from the Morrish brothers (Jay and Carter) and the Bechtol, Russell design firm.
The course sits on a hill and is built around a centralized lake, featuring the typical spectacular Hill Country topography highlighted by plush, undulating fairways and bleached white sand bunkers.
No. 2 is one of the most difficult holes and the first real challenge of your golf day. The 417-yard par 4 has more of an open feel than some of the other holes, but it’s length generally means a rather long approach, and the green is surrounded by several massive bunkers.
Getting there : From Austin, take I-35 north and exit Parmer Ln. Turn right and go east on Parmer to Dessau Rd. Turn left and go north on Dessau, which becomes FM 685. Go 5 miles past FM 1825 in Pflugerville and the club is on the left.

Future 5 star rating
So I’ve played here well over 20 times and have never had a bad time nor have I had any problems with their conditions. Always a 5 star round at star ranch. Bravo to their greens keepers / staff y’all do a great job there for the value!
Always in great shape
This remains one of my favorite courses in the Austin area. I had reservations because after I booked the teetime, I heard they just aerated the greens. However, once I got there I couldn't tell. They didn't have large aeration holes and rolled as expected.
I've played here many times over the last 20 years, and have always found it in great shape. My only complaint is how high the green fees have risen.
One of the best maintained courses in the area
We keep coming back to this course because of the overall condition. The fairways and greens are excellent. The only real complaint is the sand traps. Regardless of how much rain we've gotten, there simply isn't enough sand in them and they are unplayable.
Most of the staff is really friendly and nice, although the nicest ones seem to be volunteers. A couple of the guys that run the desk can seem like they don't really care about the patrons.
Great practice facility, with excellent practice balls and plenty of chipping and putting areas.

Simply amazing
This place is absolutely awesome. From start to finish the staff, the course, the pace, the food, absolutely awesome!
A little rain = big problems
It had rained the day before briefly in the morning, and so they decided to close down there driving range unless you were doing a club fitting with the titliest rep. Which was annoying since there was no discount or heads up. Then cart path only the whole day when the sun was out and there was no standing water anywhere in sight. Which of course slowed down the round considerably. We got there extra early to warm up and had no way to do so. Very frustrating.

Golf course is in great shape
Greens and fairways are great!
The only problem I have is with the GPS carts. It was cart path only the day we played and the cart would stop on the cart path and request you to return to the path even though you were on the path. Very annoying! Happened many times!
Very nice
Course was in great shape! It is a fairly forgiving course. Staff was friendly and helpful. A great experience. I recommend playing the course.
Great course conditions
A very fun course to play. Beautiful short par 3 with water, drivable par 4, uneven lies. Overall a great course. Course conditions were great.
Rough day for a great course
Range is closed on Wednesdays from 12-2pm so don’t get your money’s worth on the tee time with balls included. Great practice facilities but the menu at the shop is limited.
They did some random pesticide spraying and made everything cart path only for the whole back 8 and it slowed everything down so bad.
Other than that it’s a great place and great time and will always love Star. Just wish they were more helpful when they don’t provide a great experience.
4:10 minute round!
Great condition greens! Four of us played in just over 4 hours. What a treat!
