Course Highlights
Star Ranch consistently impresses with its well-protected greens, wider fairways, and course conditions that rank among the best in the Austin metro. Complimentary range balls, a roaming beverage cart, and genuinely friendly staff deliver outstanding value for a public course.

About

Holes 18
Type Public
Par 71
Length 7017 yards
Slope 130
Rating 73.5

Hutto’s been put on the golf map now that the first-class Star Ranch has opened up on what was once a cattle ranch, boasting a unique collaborative effort from the Morrish brothers (Jay and Carter) and the Bechtol, Russell design firm.

The course sits on a hill and is built around a centralized lake, featuring the typical spectacular Hill Country topography highlighted by plush, undulating fairways and bleached white sand bunkers.

No. 2 is one of the most difficult holes and the first real challenge of your golf day. The 417-yard par 4 has more of an open feel than some of the other holes, but it’s length generally means a rather long approach, and the green is surrounded by several massive bunkers.

Getting there : From Austin, take I-35 north and exit Parmer Ln. Turn right and go east on Parmer to Dessau Rd. Turn left and go north on Dessau, which becomes FM 685. Go 5 miles past FM 1825 in Pflugerville and the club is on the left.

Best around by far

Rob and his staff continue to amaze. Course is always 10x than the rest. Unfortunately it’s gotten pretty $$. Guess you get what you pay for.

Best public course in Austin area

Have tried 10 or so public courses since moving to Austin. Star Ranch is by far the best. Kissing tree is #2. Falconhead is by far the worst, dont waste your money there.

Great course and well maintained

The course is in a pristine condition despite the heavy rain from the last few days.

I played from the Blues and it seemed a little bit short although due to the wind, it was challenging.

The fairways were perfect. Rough is sort of easy’ish as it isn’t thick or long.

Greens are easy to read without much “movement”

I’ll definitely come back soon.

Course in good shape overall

Nice course, greens in good shape, tee boxes not so much, looked like they scalped them possibly for cooler weather months.

Rain previous day forced many cart path only holes, which was totally unnecessary on most of them. Maybe parts of two holes needed to be avoided, but I do understand the need to prevent carts when fairways are too wet.

This caused a longer pace of play, but overall was able to play in four hours.

One of the best in Austin

The course conditions were excellent from the tee boxes, bunkers, greens, and the fairway, and the 20-25 mph winds and gusts that day made this course fairly demanding

Beautiful even during Texas Heat Wave

Only complaint was the 4some in front of us. Could have easily been 30 min shorter round.

Wish our cart hadn't died in a cellular dead zone....

We spent around 45 minutes stuck in the middle of the No. 14 fairway because our cart didn't have enough juice and then we were unable to get a hold of the club house because at first no one answered and then both our phones lost cell service altogether. Luckily, we let the group behind us know what was going on and they were kind enough to track down an employee to help bring us a new cart. Luckily our cooler was adequately stocked but it killed any chance of us having a legitimate round. I'd play the course again but I feel like the course should have offered us a discount on the round or at least given us another opportunity to go out and play a legitimate round.
