About
Hutto’s been put on the golf map now that the first-class Star Ranch has opened up on what was once a cattle ranch, boasting a unique collaborative effort from the Morrish brothers (Jay and Carter) and the Bechtol, Russell design firm.
The course sits on a hill and is built around a centralized lake, featuring the typical spectacular Hill Country topography highlighted by plush, undulating fairways and bleached white sand bunkers.
No. 2 is one of the most difficult holes and the first real challenge of your golf day. The 417-yard par 4 has more of an open feel than some of the other holes, but it’s length generally means a rather long approach, and the green is surrounded by several massive bunkers.
Getting there : From Austin, take I-35 north and exit Parmer Ln. Turn right and go east on Parmer to Dessau Rd. Turn left and go north on Dessau, which becomes FM 685. Go 5 miles past FM 1825 in Pflugerville and the club is on the left.

Great condition greens! Four of us played in just over 4 hours. What a treat!
Great course / getting too expensive.
We been playing at SR for last 6 years. Great course and always in good shape. But it coming to point that price keep going up. SR is not in city but the management is now just jacking up price like they are city. I am sure they will be losing regulars soon.

Nice course but starter is not overly friendly
We play this course regularly and would more often if were a little less expensive. Paying $88.00 ($79.00 + tax and golfnow fee) is pretty high for that course. That said, it's very well maintained and has one of the best practice facilities in the entire Austin metroplex. The pro shop guys are just a bit stuffy. Not rude but also not overly friendly. The starter is, well...if you can't say ANYTHING nice and we'll let it go at that. Fairly easy course, with wide fairways and large greens. Pace of play was ok, and the marshall was out making his rounds to keep things moving. Beverage cart and food cart (two separate carts) came around often and both ladies were very friendly. We'll play it again but sure wish the price was in the $60 range for seniors during the week.
Good experience
Everything good except being makers were too hard. Also, didn’t get to warmup as they closed the range for two hours in the middle of the day. Overall, a good day.
#1 public course in Austin
Def my fave course in Austin for the price, always great conditions…very wide open/easier course yet still will test some of the low handicappers. Great practice area and golf carts have also been upgraded. If you’re looking for the best conditioned public course in Austin come play Star!!

Rob and his staff continue to amaze. Course is always 10x than the rest. Unfortunately it’s gotten pretty $$. Guess you get what you pay for.
Best public course in Austin area
Have tried 10 or so public courses since moving to Austin. Star Ranch is by far the best. Kissing tree is #2. Falconhead is by far the worst, dont waste your money there.
