Riviera Review
Pulled into the parking lot and we were the only car. The door was locked with a sign on the door that said closed. There was a employee inside who did let me in so i checked in.
Golf carts were very nice and he offered one per golfer if we wanted. That was nice.
All the tee boxes were mainly sand and weeds, fairways were weedy and long.
Greens were not mowed and the ball tracking was impossible to guess. We just agreed that no more than 2 putts were to be scored regardless of the actual puts. We could only play 9 of 18 holes.
Overall it felt like the course has been neglected for quite a while. It was nothing like the online pictures or description of the amenities and definitely not a hidden gem of Naples. Maybe at one time but not now.
Great staff horrible conditions
Staff was great but the course should not be open. Couple of the greens are closed with the flagsticks at the end of the fairway! Should not be taking money from the public to play an unplayable course. Very disappointing and do not waste your money unless the rate is lowered to under $10!!
Good for the money
Lots of par 3 and 4, decent course. Friendly staff and cheap beer
Get what you pay for
The course is really not in good shape. Greens are horrible along with the fairways. However, if you’re a beginner and a hacker, it’s perfect for honing your irons skills. Advanced golfers will hate it. The people working there are amazingly friendly and courteous. It’s a shame the course Doesn’t match the staffs Abilities And attributes.
Fun for the money
Rates are less than half any other course - you cannot expect manicured fairways. Also this is a par 62 course. Driver will not be needed often. Greens are good enough. Sand traps have sugar sand. Fairways and tee boxes are patchy but remember - you are paying a fraction of what the other courses charge! Staff is very friendly. Easy to get on during Spring Break. I would play any time!
Terrible at Present BUT Great Potential
I live near Riviera Golf Club, when I first moved here this was "my new favorite course" as I reviewed it in 2015. Over the past couple of years this course has deteriorated to the point of un-playability regardless of the golfer's skill level. Hurricane Irma made a drastic impact, as you may imagine, but prior to that catastrophe the course had been closed for several months with minimal upkeep. The course conditions we played yesterday, 9 November 2017, were horrible. From the first tee through the eighteenth green there was disappointment in all phases of the course conditions. The tees were one area of almost acceptable condition, the best kept playable areas were the bunkers on the front nine, however the bunkers on the back nine had not been touched since last June in my estimation. All greens were in a state of needing complete replacement. The saddest part of playing Riviera Golf Club was knowing what a fine course this was and could be again with proper ownership, care and experienced golf agronomy superintendent in charge. The layout is one of the best in the Naples area for executive courses, and is reminiscent of Pinehurst #3 in North Carolina. Truly it is a shame the current owner(s) have stated they never intended to operate a golf course and the decline of course conditions over the last two years duly reflect their statements.
There are several good executive course in the local area with much better playing conditions. I strongly urge you to patronize the other local public course and not waste your time and money at Riviera Golf Club.
Satisfied
Short but nicely kept, Very pleasant staff, friendly and helpful. Made it worth coming back.
Working mans course
It was a very enjoyable course. Staff was very nice. Course makes it 'a way thru the average mans neighborhood. I would play this course again. Played this course thru golf now.
Riviera golf club
Great value, especially when you consider the prices some of the courses charge in the surrounding areas.
No pressure fun play for novice intermediate players in under 4 hours.
Really bad , terrible
Unfriendly pro or not so pro shop staff
Not nice to golf now customers & he can't wait till they quit golf now in 2 weeks, he said.
So don't go , not nice.
Good Practice Venue
This was a fun couple of hours. The layout is not terribly challenging and we found the course to be in good conditions. Very slow greens early in our round (1pm), speeding up a bit later on. We finished in just over three hours, with minimal delays (one group invited us to play through). One short par 5, and a couple short par 4's, and the rest was mainly short part 3's. I'm normally a "bogey golfer," and I was able to improve on that by a couple strokes, front and back.
