Nice Surprise
Nothing fancy here, but a nicely laid out course with many elevation changes and very nice greens. Holes are often challenging due to the pin placements and the difficulty of getting the ball close on your approach. The greens make the course worthwhile, I recommend you try it.
Great time
The course was in great shape ...the greens were pretty fast even though we played at 3pm ...alittle slow through the 1st couple of holes but picked up really quick..we enjoy this course every time we play.
Very nice course
Played for the first time and enjoyed the experience very much.
Enjoyable
Pro shop personnel knew his job and did it well, got right out and the starter got us going right away. The course was in very good shape and we moved right along, the greens were soft and quick and challenging. We had a very good round.
Great Value
My friend and I were in Ocala for a golf trip. We booked this course, are glad we did and will definitely play it again. Be prepared for a tough start. If you can get past the first three holes without destroying your scorecard, you have easier holes the rest of the way. Wide fairways, not too much trouble, ample greens, which were surprisingly good. We played with someone who told us all greens and bunkers were redone in 2016. This was the best "bang for the buck" value we experienced in our 5 rounds in Florida.
Fun course
Course is beautiful and in pretty good shape for this time of year. Greens were great and that is the most important feature for me. Very busy so pace was slow. Buffet in snack shop was $7 including the drink and smelled great when we signed in. Problem was that after we played and we purchased the buffet it was cold so it turned out to not be a great bargain. Be sure to check out the great carved tree on #4 near the green. It is 'awesome.
Wide open
Played this course as a twosome and we were paired with a couple from Michigan.
Not much grass on the front nine. Also Rees Jones did a redesign that made all the greens elevated with many levels. Unfortunately in practice this results in the greens being very hard to hold and dry also without really good maintenance the grass around the greens tends to get sparse and that's what happened with this course. The website makes this course look very upscale when it is really a very good municipal track. Good value and friendly staff
A fair course for the average golfer
We enjoyed our round at the Ocala Golf Course. We found the course to be in good shape, especially the greens. The lay out was easy to follow and you could see exactly what you were getting into. No surprises. The staff was very pleasant.
First timers
We are inexperienced golfers and took our teenage boys for the first time. Everyone was extremely friendly and patient. We did a 5pm tee time so we wouldn't be there during the busy time. We didn't get to finish out 9 homes before it got dark but it was a great time anyway!
nice layout play forward
course was in very good shape, i played in 20 MPH winds i always say play the tees according to your Ability not your AGE so many dont get it...started out playing first 4 from the white tees the wind was so strong i was already tired went 1 tee forward that where i should of started from Great Course, Great Layout Will Be Back...
The Villages Alternative
My wife and I live in The Villages. From Jan-Mar it's very difficult to get tee times. So we go "off-campus" and try other courses in the area. We found Ocala to be a comfortable alternative for us. Not too difficult; not too easy. Let's just say it hit the spot. Now that we've played the course, it will not be as much of a challenge the next time.
Ivied it
Everyone was so nice and the course was beautiful I would defiantly play there again.
Nice course
Course is in good shape and offers a variety of difficult and easier holes. The right number of sand and water hazards. Recommend using a power cart because of the hills on some of the holes..... especially if a hot day. Yes we will play here again....
They need to pair up foursomes
We had two twosomes in front and behind us, if the course would've paired them up as foursomes, it would've improved pace conditions
Good test
Great layout, better have your A game if you want to score. I probably would have scored better moving forward on the markers
