Front nine very challenging
Enjoyed the golf course, but the pace of play was brutal, twosome in front of me had one player score an 18 on a par five and did not pick up till ball was in the hole, nobody around to speed up play.
Excellent reclamation story
Moccasin Wallow is a great example of an in-progress golf course transformation. Owner and former Tour caddie Noah Zelnik and his staff are doing everything they can to give golfers here the best possible experience on a modest budget. So far, so good: they're focusing on making the course's greens as good as possible, and addressing everything else as able. This provides a high baseline from which Zelnik and crew are looking to improve. Having met him, I am confident they'll succeed. A good local golf course, and worth stopping by if you're in the area.
Thank you for your review and kind words. We bring a no frills approach to a very affordable product. As prices go up for cost of goods we have done our best to stay competitive in an oversaturated market. With the more play we get the more we are able to continue to make improvements. Thank you for noticing where we were, where we are, and where we will be.
Hot deal
I have not played the course because of the price but got it on a Hot Deal through GolfNow and thoroughly enjoyed the round. It is an interesting layout with lots of water but had enough forgiveness that I didn’t feel beat up. An extremely enjoyable day.
Loved it
I am a little late in posting this review but it is well deserved. Had a buddy cancel on me at the last minute so I ended up playing alone. Course was in great shape, moderately challenging. Greens were 95% and ran true. Had a great burger and a cold beer when I finished up. No negatives, all positives. Will definitely be back
Great Day of Golfing
2nd time playing Moccasin Wallow. Nice layout - some challenging holes. Some thin fairways due to time of season and lack of rain. Greens run fast with plenty of breaks. Water on quite a few holes - and there are alligators - we saw 6. Right off I-75 - easy access. Highly recommend Moccasin Wallow.
Great experience
Played The Moc last year, and it was not in great condition. MUCH improved this year! Tee boxes the nicest of the courses I've played this year. Level and plenty of grass. The greens are in excellent condition; fast and true. Considering the lack of rain over the past month or so the fairways are in good condition. Staff was friendly and helpful, especially the starter and the course ranger. Looking forward to playing the course again.
THE MOC!
WOW this course is coming around.... the fairways are firm and tight, greens are running 11 (downwind down-grain probably in the 13-14 range). If you want a true test of your golf game, play THE MOC from all the way back, it will humble you! Holes 8-11 are some of the toughest holes you will ever play. DON'T BELIEVE ME.... Go find out yourself, but don't let the "Venom Den @ The MOC bite you!
Surprised more people aren't playing here
Best value in the area during season when other courses have jacked up their rates, and it's easy to get a time and get around the course in 4 hours or less. It's clear that they've put work in to the course. For the most part it's in really good shape, particularly the tees and greens which can be fast and challenging if you find yourself on the wrong part of the green. Course can be tight in places, but it's fair and a really good test of your game.
An Adenture
We played at this course under very good conditions and little wind. The shop staff were not he most pleasant but they were cordial. The starter was very friendly and helpful. The course was not in the best of shape but was very playable. I played form the whites at 6100 but it plays shorter than it reads. the course is fair but you need ot look at it in depth as it does have some difficulty hidden form sight. Over all it was fine and I would play it again.
Fun course
This is a hidden gem. Worth the 35 minute drive from St Pete. Greens and fairway are very good.
The layout was fun from the Whites and all you want if you step back to the Blues.
Grill and full bar are a bonus.
Golfnow members are 2nd class citizens
We were told we couldn’t get a cart until 10 minutes before our teatime because we were golfnow members. I asked if we could get a cart so my handicap friend could go putt and they said no. The course needs work and is pleasant enough as cheap as it was, but not worth being treated like that
Thank you for leaving this review. Why don’t you tell the true story. You came in and weren’t sure of your tee time which was at 12:52. Or policy is we do not give cart keys out 20 minutes before a rate change Which was at 12:45. You cursed at the person behind the counter and we told you not to use language like that in our business. You then left is a tussle and came back cursing at me in my office and you were told that the course will call golf now and get you a refund. You said I’m already here. Had you shown an ADA card you’re would get a cart earlier as we are very accommodating to those in need. Golf is a game of integrity and class and when you come in to our Club with a different attitude expect to be treated appropriately. Thank you for never coming back to our club as you are not welcomed here.
Nice course
Nice layout. Greens are in great shape and run true to the eye. Lots of water but does not come into play as much as one would think
Skip this course
First time playing this course. Was disappointed in the conditions of the greens, roughs and in a few cases the fairways. I like fast greens, but your ball shouldn't zig zag every which way on slow putts. Narrow fairways don't bother me but at least make the roughs playable. Horrid conditions even a yard off the fairway. No consistency in the rough. Weeds, hard pan, roots, debris. Club house staff not too friendly. Pro shop did hit have our golf now reservation and told us we shouldn't use golf now. Tried calling the number posted in the cart starting on the 8th hole to order food at the turn no one answered. Called 4 times. Walked in at the turn and the not so friendly bartender said they didnt answer because were really busy. There was only one other person in the bar. Having to pay a dollar to become a "member" is a joke. They have some real process problems at this course. On the positive side, the starter was pleasant. Bottom line, there is a great county course only a few miles around the corner that is a better value and in fantastic condition. Oh, and you dont need to pay a dollar for some phony membership.
thank you for your review. you many of the other people must be wrong as our greens are some of the best around. Rough is rough. The bar and restaurant are great, not poor as you contend. We thank you for choosing other courses at this time. You sound like you work for our competition.
Gary59
Greens nice and fast!! Fairways and rough a little sparse. Newer carts were nice. Starter very helpful. Weird that you have to pay $1 to be a member of a private club. Enjoyed my experience.
Its a tiered program. Your dollar covered a "member for a day" promotion we have started. the golf landscape has changed as we are a membership platform golf club. we have day members all the way to 200 play memberships to unlimited golf memberships. The 2020 season is here & we have come up with our multi play rates for those interested in making The MOC their home. We have a few options available depending on each golfers needs.

Nice Track
Came back after playing last week for 1st time. After a day and a half of rain....course still in very good shape,, course drains well. And after the rain, still no corse restrictions. Thank Gad the few who played today followed 90 degree rule & didn't tear up the course. Nice slick greens that run true, fairways fine & tee boxes level & nice grass. I heard this course used to be a dog track, and it's obvious the new owner, Noah, takes pride in his course & knows where to put the money in. A really nice layout, fair but trouble if you stray....and stay BELOW the hole!!! Noah the owner, was tending bar after the round....simply a GREAT guy, who was welcoming & happy to hear we enjoyed his course. Definitely tee it up here....a great golf experience. Thanks Noah!!!!!
Not quite worth it.
I was very disappointed today. First off, my tee time was moved from 12.52 too 1.15 without any reasonable explanation. Then the starter put 2 groups of 3 out, with a twosome behind them. When I asked why, his excuse was pitiful. The course was backed up without a ranger insight.
I stopped playing at Greenfield plantation for poor customer service almost 2yrs, now moccasin wallow has just joined that list. There are too many other courses in this area I would rather promote and play. Buyer beware when booking your tee times through golfnow, it may just not be worth playing at moccasin wallow.
George,
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. Your teatime that you booked to golf now which 1252. Golfers show up with less or more golfers sometimes. We do our best to accommodate everybody. You showed up with a hot deal with 4 booked but Only three people that you played in. You were on the TEe at 1:00 pm on a par 5 that has difficulty And sometimes can get a little backed up. You played in well less than four hours and unfortunately you decided at 1 o’clock to go back to the shop. You said our starter was stupid so you were not going to get a great answer when disparaging the staff. Thank you for choosing another golf course from now on.
!st time.....will be back
First time, and enjoyed. Didn't start good, as 1 single in our group arrived earlier than I, and couldn't get a cart or driving range access until I showed up with paid GolfNow receipt. Heard this course got a new owner 2 years ago & has been improving., so wanted to give a try. Once starting, things improved. Right on time tee off, nice newer carts. Great layout, nice & tight, and trouble if you sprayed it. Tee boxes nice ( except for #2), fairways all nice & green, very few bare spots, & mainly weed free,....and....not divot city!!!! Wow, some people DO sand their craters!!! A hair thinner than I like them, but they should fill in nicely this summer, and they roll out nicely. Honestly, the best greens Ive played this year.. Nice & slick, very true, and not the normal pancakes....they have character. And again, not looking like Swiss cheese with unrepaired ball marks all over!!!! A little rough around the edges in the rough, but clearly, the new owner's focused on the important stuff, and I'd say another year & the rough should fill in. Back nine is super tight, and you have to place shots to score. Went to bar afterwards. Friendly staff, reasonable prices, friendly members. Met the owner, pleasant as could be, obviously proud of his facility. Thanked him for an enjoyable round. My group WILL be back!!!!
Thank you for your review. We are sorry that the pace of play was not faster be we averaged just under 4 hours yesterday with 150 people crammed from 7;30 to 1 pm. we are glad that you enjoyed your day on the course otherwise.
