Moccasin Wallow Golf Club
About
Moccasin Wallow Golf Club (previously known as Imperial Lakewoods Golf Club) is located at the intersection of I-75 and I-275 on exit 45 in Palmetto, less than a 30-minute drive from Tampa, St. Petersburg and Sarasota. The course was designed by Ted McAnlis around 200 beautiful wooded acres with 16 lakes. Nice Track
Came back after playing last week for 1st time. After a day and a half of rain....course still in very good shape,, course drains well. And after the rain, still no corse restrictions. Thank Gad the few who played today followed 90 degree rule & didn't tear up the course. Nice slick greens that run true, fairways fine & tee boxes level & nice grass. I heard this course used to be a dog track, and it's obvious the new owner, Noah, takes pride in his course & knows where to put the money in. A really nice layout, fair but trouble if you stray....and stay BELOW the hole!!! Noah the owner, was tending bar after the round....simply a GREAT guy, who was welcoming & happy to hear we enjoyed his course. Definitely tee it up here....a great golf experience. Thanks Noah!!!!!
Not quite worth it.
I was very disappointed today. First off, my tee time was moved from 12.52 too 1.15 without any reasonable explanation. Then the starter put 2 groups of 3 out, with a twosome behind them. When I asked why, his excuse was pitiful. The course was backed up without a ranger insight.
I stopped playing at Greenfield plantation for poor customer service almost 2yrs, now moccasin wallow has just joined that list. There are too many other courses in this area I would rather promote and play. Buyer beware when booking your tee times through golfnow, it may just not be worth playing at moccasin wallow.
!st time.....will be back
First time, and enjoyed. Didn't start good, as 1 single in our group arrived earlier than I, and couldn't get a cart or driving range access until I showed up with paid GolfNow receipt. Heard this course got a new owner 2 years ago & has been improving., so wanted to give a try. Once starting, things improved. Right on time tee off, nice newer carts. Great layout, nice & tight, and trouble if you sprayed it. Tee boxes nice ( except for #2), fairways all nice & green, very few bare spots, & mainly weed free,....and....not divot city!!!! Wow, some people DO sand their craters!!! A hair thinner than I like them, but they should fill in nicely this summer, and they roll out nicely. Honestly, the best greens Ive played this year.. Nice & slick, very true, and not the normal pancakes....they have character. And again, not looking like Swiss cheese with unrepaired ball marks all over!!!! A little rough around the edges in the rough, but clearly, the new owner's focused on the important stuff, and I'd say another year & the rough should fill in. Back nine is super tight, and you have to place shots to score. Went to bar afterwards. Friendly staff, reasonable prices, friendly members. Met the owner, pleasant as could be, obviously proud of his facility. Thanked him for an enjoyable round. My group WILL be back!!!!
Excellent
The Moc has completely turned around. Noah and Staff have done a Fabulous job of restoring this Golf Course! Every day it changes for the better.
Great value too.
It is North Manatee hidden Secret. !! I never get tired of playing it. It has GREAT BONES ⛳️⛳️⛳️⛳️⛳️
Golf today
When we checked in today, they did not recognize our reservation. They said they received nothing from golf now. I showed them my confirmation and they said we could use another tee time. No help with getting our bags on the carts or when we turned them in.
Would not recommend this course.
Paul,
So let’s get this straight. You booked a hot deal and the golf course was not in receipt of your tee time at 12:52. They checked you in for a 12:37 and had you go earlier. The bag drop is 10 feet from where golf carts are parked and you were upset that no one put your bag on the cart for you or wiped down your clubs afterwards so now you give a poor review because the $30 you paid golf now was a “poor value.” Thank you for leaving your review and showing how your story played out. The day before you played a professional event was held and the players loved the facility and have rebooked for February. They loved the brand new golf carts and the food is great. We thank you for your review and respect your views that Moccasin Wallow is not for you.
Moc review
We had an enjoyable round. The greens were in much better shape than the last time I played here. One negative is the RED ANTS they were every where. My playing partner got swammed on the first hole. Eww had to be extra careful from then on.
In better shape than when it was imperial lakes but some holes hardly have any grass on the fairways.
Staff weren’t all that friendly when we arrived. Apparently they are still a private course and when you check in you have to join as a member. It’s only $1 each but you just get the impression you’re being “ nickled and dimed”. They’ve reversed the nines so now their signature finishing hole par five is now #9. Did this apparently so you pass the clubhouse twice for refreshments but none of our foursome liked that at all. Too bad it’s nit much better than before but they’ve sure raised the rates.
Getting better
This course has been improving over the last 2 years. The owners seem to be putting some good efforts into improving the greens and the fairways.
Good course for a good price
Course was good and the price was right for this time of the year. Tough greens with lots of slopes. Course played long after rains a couple of days ago and a little breezy.
Soooo Good!
The course speaks for itself. GREAT LAYOUT! The greens surprised me, I was told that the greens were top dressed on Wednesday, must’ve been a little coat of sand bc you couldn’t really tell and they were still “10ish” for speed. The staff is doing a great job getting this place back to what it used to be. I will BE BACK SOON! (Driving range tee is PERFECT)
Great day and great course
The layout and maintenance of this course were excellent. The par 3’s were very fun and interesting. Hole 9 is crazy and very challenging. Overall it was an enjoyable course to play. They also have 6 different tees to accommodate a wide variety of skill levels.
Worth playing
There were heavy rains last night and the course was quite wet. I would not hesitate to go back.
The pace of play
Each time I play this course I finding is never too crowded. We never feel rushed and never have to pair up with strangers. The course is challenging enough to keep us interested.
11 Hncp..
Easy drive from Sarasota. The course looks to be in survival mode. Pro shop not overly friendly. No one at bag drop. Got my own cart and loaded my clubs...no big deal..Got out early as they said the course was wide open. Since I chose to go off as a single I played very quickly and caught the men’s club at 14...They are a very grouchy bunch and never acknowledged me or said hello. I drove in and did not play the last 5 holes. Greens are good fairways average but did not enjoy the layout. Wind was howling so maybe that diminished my enjoyment..Lots of courses in Sarasota and south and will not be returning even if it is free.
Enjoyable afternoon of golf
This is the first time I have played this course since the change over from Imperial Lakewood’s to Moccasin Wallow. I was pleasantly surprised at the improvements that have been made to this course. There is still work to be done but the greens were very nice, the tee boxes well grasses and the fairways in good to very good condition. I will definitely play again and recommend to my golfing friends!!!
Nice day at The Moc!
The greens were in great shape, and fast! Much better than the last time we played there. Nice bar inside with water views, too.
George,
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. Your teatime that you booked to golf now which 1252. Golfers show up with less or more golfers sometimes. We do our best to accommodate everybody. You showed up with a hot deal with 4 booked but Only three people that you played in. You were on the TEe at 1:00 pm on a par 5 that has difficulty And sometimes can get a little backed up. You played in well less than four hours and unfortunately you decided at 1 o’clock to go back to the shop. You said our starter was stupid so you were not going to get a great answer when disparaging the staff. Thank you for choosing another golf course from now on.
