Moccasin Wallow Golf Club
About
Moccasin Wallow Golf Club (previously known as Imperial Lakewoods Golf Club) is located at the intersection of I-75 and I-275 on exit 45 in Palmetto, less than a 30-minute drive from Tampa, St. Petersburg and Sarasota. The course was designed by Ted McAnlis around 200 beautiful wooded acres with 16 lakes. The course's signature hole, No.18 (550 yard, par 5 dog leg around Imperial Lake), is chosen year after year by local golfers as the best par 5 in southwest Florida

Complete Joke
Booked a tee time through GolfNow on 6/25/19 for 4:00PM. When I arrived the owner informed me he was closing the course so they could water it... are you serious??? I got no call from the course to notify me I wasn’t going to be able to play. Not only that, the owner told me he called GolfNow and cancelled my reservation with them. After personally speaking with GolfNow on the phone, it turns out that was a complete lie. They never called to cancel the reservation. Now I have to keep calling back until GolfNow can get ahold of the course so I can get my refund. Horrible way to run a business....Online it says they are open till 6PM but they close shop at 4PM. Course won’t last long with those business practices....good luck.
A hidden gem!
I was impressed with the course although the grass was a little high. That was acceptable after all the rain. Can't wait to back after the grass is cut!
Finally
This course has taken a change of direction. Over the last 6 months there has been massive construction going on out front with a new road and Publix, so don’t let that distract u from what truly is out there. The course has massive potential and the recent fertilization and aerification has made this place GREEN. Go give it a shot!
Excellent course
This course has a layout that is second to none in the Parish/Palmetto area. Constant work has been done to improve greens and fairways making it one of the nicest courses around. The staff is friendly and very helpful when it comes to pace of play.
The course has a nice design and layout.
Overall the course needs a lot of work. Formerly Imperial Lakewood, this course does have potential. Unfortunately, it seems that the new ownership is not investing any money in the greens or tee boxes. Horrible conditions. The most frustrating part is that on the front 9, the only restroom and water location wasn't operational. In hot humid weather; this is really not good. Unless this course completely changes, I will never go back. The front of the clubhouse looks like a real eye sore. Terribly disappointing.
Thank you for leaving a review but we have no record of you playing on 6/15/2019. We do have record of you playing last year. If you were there Saturday we tell everyone that there are water fountains at each bathroom as well as water cooler in the clubhouse. Our bar and restaurant is one of the nicest at any clubhouse and the parking lot/ entrance is under construction for the Publix shopping center. We have spent a lot of time and money on our tees and greens recently so we are not sure when you played. Please let us know when you played and your receipt and we gladly would like to make things right with you.
Thank you for leaving a review. We were looking over the tee sheet as we chart all rounds as we were wondering when you played and what we could've done better. We see you played over a month ago and are leaving a review now. Please let us know what could have been better.
Didn’t see a moccasin..
The course was a little dry but play incredibly fast..
Nobody in front of,or behind me a Great day..
My play was erratic but the course was fine!

Thank you for leaving your review. We are waiting on Mother Nature to give ups the water that we need. We have sprayed the proper chemicals and need water and ground temperature to allow the grass to flourish. I promise that the golf course is getting the behind the scenes attention to be really good in the not so distant future.
Moccasin Wallow Golf Club
I found the golf course needed to be in a little rough shape. For the most part the greens were in fairly good shape and the fair ways needed to be watered a little more. But I did like playing there and would recommend playing the course. But I would not pay anymore than what I payed.
thank you for your review of the MOC. We are working very hard to restore the golf course to its former glory and we are committed to doing this. We are working diligently on our greens as we recently repaired over 4000 square feet of turf. We are now at mother natures mercy as to rainfall. We do not have access to unlimited water at this time as out lake os not able to be filled up because PUBLIX construction has built a drain lower than it was supposed to so we are not able to get that water. Wwill be doing a major aeration in two weeks that will open up our golf course and be able to get the necessary nutrients to the plant.
Course conditions
I play two courses most of the time and they are Buffalo Creek and Moccasin wallow. Buffalo Creek is less expensive and course conditions are much better however a lot of people play there so the pace of play is slow on the weekends. Moccasin wallow has poor course conditions for the most part but since nobody plays there you can get around in 3 hours. They don't seem to come up on Google and most people do not know about it even though it is in a community of hundreds or thousands of homes. If they advertised more they could get more people to play there which would increase revenue and then course conditions may improve. Some of the greens have not improved very much since last fall the fairways tend to be on the brown side and they want more money to play there. Last Friday Buffalo Creek was packed with a couple hundred players and Moccasin wallow only had eight people go off before 11. You do the math. The people that work there are very nice and the bar and food are good. I think there are more people that go there for dinner than actually play the course. This course has a nice layout and by fixing the greens and watering the course a little more often could really get more people to play there but you have to be competitive with the courses around you. I would recommend playing Buffalo Creek based on course conditions and price but if you want to play a round in 3 hours then moccasin wallow is the course to go to. That's my two cents. Josh D

This course should be considered one of the premier courses in Manatee County. Easy to access at it is right off of interstate 75 and Exit 229. The course itself is simply amazing, with each hole offering a challenge. The fairways and greens were in excellent shape, seems like there is constant improvements.
We also stayed for dinner that evening at The MOC Bar and Grill which is a sports bar open to the public for golfers & non-golfers alike! Was able to watch the start of the final four on huge TV monitors thoughout the bar. The part that made the occasion extra special was Noah Zelnik - the owner and operator. He greeted everyone at the door and ensured everything was running perfectly.
Number 9! If this isn’t the signature hole, it should be. It is
reminiscent of another famous McAnlis hole, number 18, The Blue Monster at Doral. Joe
Average will want to hit his tee shot left of the fairway bunker on the right side. Your
layup shot will be to a narrow landing area between two fairway bunkers with the ever
present water on the left. Your approach shot is to a small, elevated green where the
water on the left really comes into play. To complicate matters, a small pond will catch
anything hit wildly to the right. Take a par and head home.
A big Thank You for such a pleasant experience.

Burnt and Dry
Fairways and greens are burnt out. Need water and maintenace. Staff was very friendly. Should be charging $20 a round. Good layout but needs much TLC.
Average, at best
I played this course when it was Imperial something, and heard that the new owners were doing good things with it.
This course looks nothing like the photos. The tee boxes were in ok shape, the greens and fairways need some work! There are numerous greens that had newly planted sod. The parking lot alone told me what sort of round we were in for. Not good. We did get some pretty heavy rains the day before, and the course was mostly dry, so at least it drains well.
Tori behind the bar was great and the food was really good too.
There are much nicer courses in the area for the same rates, or better. Maybe the course is going through some things and may get nicer later, but if it stays the way it was a few days ago, we won't go back.
Very disappointing. Have looked forward to playing The Moc.....conditions were tough. Greens obviously being repaired on many spots. Fairways are thin, not a lot of grass and still paid full rate. It will be long time before we try again..........
Thank you for leaving your review. Our greens have been patched but you can see we have flags away from the repaired spots. Many people love our fairways as they are firm and fast. I wouldn't call them bare more coming out of dormant season and have lots of coverage. We look forward to you coming back to play when you are ready.
thank you for leaving a review after playing on a hot deal. I am sure you may have paid the Hot deal price that Golf now has set. Our golf course is in very good shape and have resodded the areas that had struggled this winter. Please read other reviews to see if this one matches up.
Wallowing in Uncertainty
We booked a 9:30 teatime with golf now, who then telephoned to ask us to switch to 8:45.
On arrival at 8:15, we were told our start time would be 8:52.
At 8:22, the starter rushed us out to the first tee. This was not a bad thing because it put us out in front of the crowd, and our playing time was excellent ( less than 3 hours for a twosome) but it seemed a little disorganized..
The course was in good condition, some of the greens were under repair, but fortunately they never interfered with our play.
My playing partners gps recognized the course under its old name, and mine had the holes numbered differently. 1 was 10 and 10 was 1 etc This didn’t detract from the enjoyment.
The course was reasonably challenging, and my playing partner found some of the tee shots a little narrow.
We will play this course again.
Thank you for your review as we want to explain how GolfNow and the golf course work. Golfnow does not have an integration with our tee sheet so we do our best to manually block the tee times once others are booked. Once we received your email we contacted Golf Now and had them contact you to find a tee time that worked. We hd both our members group which teed off at 9:00 am and had an extra group as well as the Mediocre Golf Association who also showed up with an extra time. My starter Jerry wanted to get you out ahead of both groups so that you would be able to play as quick as possible. We are a rare golf course who doesn't try to oversell our course so that pace of play is always quick. We are glad that you were able to play a quick 3 hour round on a Saturday morning and hopefully you were able to enjoy our great Moc bar and grill. Our food is fantastic and hope you enjoyed the entire MOC experience.
Good golf course to play
Good come back from the brink - a few greens still need a come back - but overall the greens are in excellent shape. Great layout and challenging.
Jason,
Thank you for leaving your review. We had sent you an email for anyone who played between April 8th and April 15th a come back and play for $25. I am sure that now that the greens are rolled you’ll notice a big difference. Thank you.
Beware !
A “Cow Pasture” without the cows is the only way to describe this course. The greens were patched with sod and never mentioned at the pro-shop. The greens were not cut in the past several days although they were mowing the practice green. There was no starter, there was no Marshall, there was no one in the pro-shop when I wanted to ask about the afore mentioned staff.
The course is in the worst condition than any of the course I have played in Florida in the past six weeks. AND they charge a ridiculous price to play. GOLF NOW should drop the course until conditions improve or the price drops to a reasonable rate due to the very poor conditions..
On the bright side, the staff in the restaurant were friendly..
Thank you for leaving your review. You are correct that greens had not been cut in a couple of days because the staff was resodding all of the bad areas which makes them very hard to mow. There is always someone in the shop as well as most of the time a starter or ranger on the course. If you saw the practice green being mowed it was at about 145 which was when you and your wife made the turn. Those greens were mowed that afternoon as our new mechanic from Gator Creek had just set the mower to proper height. Our layout is one of the best in the area. Golf now will not take us off of their website because they make money. This was the third time you played on a golf now hot deal since March 12th and they set their own rates as well as keep 100% of that money. Our golf course is far from a “cow pasture” as it gets. Thank you again for leaving your review.
Matthew
We see you have left a review of which you are leaving out much of the story. Your confirmation number 325819648 was booked at 3:53 PM for a 4:00 pm tee time. I had called golf now cares line at 3:30 pm to close our tee sheet with golf now as we do not have an integrated tee sheet with GolfNow. We actually closed off our tee sheet at 2:00 pm to all of our members as well as anyone booking online as the heat that day was 98 degrees and a heat index of 108. You walked up at 3:57 pm 4 minute after you booked a time which should not have been sold attempting to get a better rate than the one offered at the course. So be truthful with everyone that you booked in the parking lot and walked up to find the course closed for maintenance. You wouldn’t get a call from us as you booked while onsite. My golf now rep is trying to figure out who on the inside did not close off the tee sheet as we called to let about maintenance. I will not apologize for making my product better but closing the after noon for watering and not having my golf course burn from the heat. We are sorry about your inconvenience and know that our closing is not about greed and trying to make as much money as possible but giving golfers a great product. You didn’t prepay anything to the course only your $2.49 booking fee so lets not pretend you are out money or that the golf course beat you out of anything. You received your refund from golf now and the golf course didn’t make any money from you. Golf courses close down due to maintenance and weather issues all the time.
