Worst Greens in history
The starter had a hard time finding a twosome for me to tag along with as it was my first time playing the course. I needed someone who has played the course to direct me to the next tee box.
The tee boxes where good and the fairway was well maintained but when you get on the green it was like they stopped maintaining the course.
The greens had fungus and mold all over them.
If you want to enjoy a round of golf go somewhere else.
Good municipal course
Have played Pompano several times in the past 25 years. The City retained Greg Norman et. al. to do some alterations to,the courses, esp. the Pines, about 10 years ago. Honestly, I liked the layout much more before the revisions were made...nevertheless, the course was in good condition....,the greens were incredibly slow and that was frustrating, but fairways, bunkers, tees were good.
The back 9 of the Pines is very long....as I understand it, the Pompano course(s) lost a lot of larger trees last summer in a tropical storm, but the course remains challenging.
We played on a weekday afternoon and completed the round on 4 hrs.
Because of its proximity to the Ocean, the site is usually breezier than inland courses..while the wind adds to the challenge, it makes golfing on warmer days more comfortable.
They should just close this dog track.
The condition of this course is so bad I wouldn't play it again for free. Half the greens have more sand on them than the traps. The fairways are mostly void of grass. Also, you will not find one drop of drinking water while you're on the course. It's a shame because the layout is nice enough. The starter was pleasant.
fun time
we had a great time---the pace was perfect, we finished in less than 4 hours.
Galippis was less than accomadating, We arrived at 3'58 and ordered drinks, Never told that happy hour started at 4"00 and never advised about their happy hour,----very disappointing, We were planning on having dinner with our wives but changed our minds,
Poor maintenance on golf course.
Sand 1/4 in. on greens and not brushed in. Putted on too much sand. Played with couple from Iceland and hope they do not think this is what our courses are like. Fairways have a serious lack of grass.
The Palms needs some TLC..
The Greens were in very poor condition..It appears the whole course needs work.
Enjoyed my round.
Layout was nice. A couple of greens had issues, but ball still rolled true. Overall the course was in great shape. Would definitely play again.
Grass not always greener
Several tee boxes were all dirt and sand, but the greens were the worse I've played in years. Most of the greens had mostly bad patches of sand and disease. Not fun to play tee to green and then have no control of the ball rolling across a terrible surface. Wont be back there any time soon!
Very poor greens
The layout of this course is about the only plus. The greens are in horrible shape.Yes the course gets lots of play but that is no excuse for the poor condition.
I should have payed 10 or 20 more dollars to play a real course that has playable greens.
Pretty straight forward, good for beginners IMO
I played this Course because of a really really slow foursome just sitting on the first tee of the Palms. (What the heck)
This course was completely empty for whatever reason, so my foursome went to the starter and paid the extra 10 bucks to start on the Pines.
I'm a novice still struggling with the occasional fat shot, but I found this course pretty forgiving when I made good contact
The conditions were also pretty good when I played. The more interesting holes are on the back nine.
Good time
The only criticism is that the greens are not in great shape. For the money it was a good deal.
This course is in very poor condition.
It is a shame to charge $47 to play that course. Especially, the course is the property of the city of Pompano.
Surprisingly good and recommendable!
Good condition, much better than 5-6 years ago. Excellent pace and the 19th hole is really worth "playing"!
Worst course ever
The condition of this course is pitiful. More sand than grass, weeds everywhere. $45 to play is over priced for such terrible conditions. The city has invested a high price in off course amenities rather than course care
I was down here for a vacation and the Pompano course was under a mile from my hotel, so why not?
Walking onto the course was pretty easy--I approached the starter for a time slot and paid at the window for the greens fee. Both the cashier at the window and the starter were pretty chill.
If you have some time to kill, drop your bag and check out the bar. A G&T was only $6 or 6.50, so I grabbed two of those. It's convenient to the first tee, so just keep an eye on the time and wrap things when it's almost time.
I actually played at this facility twice. The first time, I got paired up with two older guys. One was a local regular and he gave me an idea of where to aim, since I've never been on the course before. The second time, there was a large group which was just sitting on the tee and asked the starter to switch me to the Pines, which he did, no problem.
The course itself is about $10 cheaper than the Greg Norman course, and a little shorter, but honestly, it is more interesting and has a par 3 with a water carry and more doglegs.
My only complaint is that the course conditions were not great. If they put a little work into improving them, this could be a pretty nice course. The Pines was, by comparison, in much better condition but kinda less interesting.
Where's the grass?
Played this course for the first time. The layout is nice, but there are so many bare spots on the fairways and the greens are more sand than grass. Spend a few dollars more and play a course with grass.
Pompano pines
Good golf near my home , friendly, easy for my handicap.
They accept this year Golf now , it's a very good think . For me and my husband , it's perfect
