Good course for beginners! Very inexpensive. Enjoy
The course could use some help!
Second time playing this course. The course is challenging because the holes are not well marked,. Hopefully there is someone playing in front of you to follow! If not, be prepared to get lost! The greens were in actually in generally good condition. The fairways needed multiple tree limbs to be cleared off of them. There are no restrooms. Swore that I wouldn't return to this course because of the condition of the outhouses which were horrible! Must admit that they had greatly improved since we played last month! The restaurant appears to have closed quite some time ago. The course and facilities could definitely use some cosmetic help.
interesting little track
The greens are diabolical & by far the thing that makes this short course play harder. They are in okay shape too. The overall condition is on the low end, but playable.
The fairways are like a cow pasture I didn't like the course and for 26 dollars on line was way to much
Abby course
My opinion only is it was like playing golf looking for grass to hit your ball off of (I called it the cow pasture) ground was very hard
Get what you pay for
$22 from GOLFNOW so I knew there was a chance the course had some quirks. Pro shop recently burned down. Cart paths were scarce. Paths also intersected. Nice oak trees but in odd places or not trimmed. The 570 yard par 6 on #10 was neat
"Fairways" were so bad that golfing was no fun. Had to look for a clump of broadgrass in the middle of the fairway! Paid for 18 holes, but quit after 9. Very disappointing.
St Leo seen it's better days
When we arrived at this course there was one car in the lot. Approaching the club house there's a blue tarp over the roof and a sign saying building condemned. Walking around the building you find this small trailer they're using for a pro shop.
The course was in winter mode which all courses are. All greens are raised higher then the fairways so your never going to see a ball roll into the green. I have to say the greens were in great shape. A couple need work but overall good job. The fairways are thin on grass. A lot of bear spots. One thing we did notice is they need more signs or something to distinguish the layout of the course. On the sixth hole you tee off and you see a green straight ahead of you so we played it. Come to find out it was the eighth green we played. The sixth was a 90 dog leg left which we drove around and figured out.
Windy and Cold
For this time of year the greens were in excellent shape. Only a couple of greens need work. The fairways had sometimes or sand then grass on them. I would like to golf here sometime in the summer or fall.
Don’t. Just, don’t.
This course is easily one of the worst courses I’ve ever played. Let’s start at the top. Clubhouse is unsafe to enter due to a fire, so the “clubhouse” is actually a little tan trailer. I’m not gonna blame the course for this, but it definitely is a clue as to how your round will go. The first tee is where the problems start. The tee boxes are not level, yardages are guesstimated at best (had a golfer behind us hit their tee shot into the green we were on from allegedly 270 out, yet he assured us he doesn’t hit it near that far), there is no clear indicator of what is fairway and what isn’t, and several tee boxes ask you to hit a better tee ball than the pros. To be honest, if you end up in a patch of grass off the tee, you’re lucky. It’s mostly dirt and dead grass. The greens are incredibly fast... sometimes.... and sometimes they’re slower than the “fairway”. Will you ever know which it is? Nope! The inconsistency in condition from green to green makes it impossible to get a feel for them. You get punished for hitting bad shots, you get punished for hitting good shots. Hit your putt a little too hard? Better grab a wedge, because you’re gonna have about 10 yards back in. Hit your drive with a draw or cut? Chances are you’re gonna be off the “fairway” in some trees, even if you hit the middle of the “fairway”. I don’t leave reviews often, and try to give courses the benefit of the doubt, especially in January for $25, but this course was so bad I couldn’t not say something. Save yourself the time and frustration and go play elsewhere.
DISCLAIMER: Every person on the staff that we interacted with was very friendly, and my review in no way is meant to target them, but the course is so bad, no amount of friendly staff could help salvage an extra star.
Fun at the Abbey Course
Very friendly staff. Pro shop attendant walked me through the score card and pointed out several key things about the course that helped me, which I needed since I'd never played the course before. I will play here again. Steve
