Don’t. Just, don’t.
This course is easily one of the worst courses I’ve ever played. Let’s start at the top. Clubhouse is unsafe to enter due to a fire, so the “clubhouse” is actually a little tan trailer. I’m not gonna blame the course for this, but it definitely is a clue as to how your round will go. The first tee is where the problems start. The tee boxes are not level, yardages are guesstimated at best (had a golfer behind us hit their tee shot into the green we were on from allegedly 270 out, yet he assured us he doesn’t hit it near that far), there is no clear indicator of what is fairway and what isn’t, and several tee boxes ask you to hit a better tee ball than the pros. To be honest, if you end up in a patch of grass off the tee, you’re lucky. It’s mostly dirt and dead grass. The greens are incredibly fast... sometimes.... and sometimes they’re slower than the “fairway”. Will you ever know which it is? Nope! The inconsistency in condition from green to green makes it impossible to get a feel for them. You get punished for hitting bad shots, you get punished for hitting good shots. Hit your putt a little too hard? Better grab a wedge, because you’re gonna have about 10 yards back in. Hit your drive with a draw or cut? Chances are you’re gonna be off the “fairway” in some trees, even if you hit the middle of the “fairway”. I don’t leave reviews often, and try to give courses the benefit of the doubt, especially in January for $25, but this course was so bad I couldn’t not say something. Save yourself the time and frustration and go play elsewhere.
DISCLAIMER: Every person on the staff that we interacted with was very friendly, and my review in no way is meant to target them, but the course is so bad, no amount of friendly staff could help salvage an extra star.
Fun at the Abbey Course
Very friendly staff. Pro shop attendant walked me through the score card and pointed out several key things about the course that helped me, which I needed since I'd never played the course before. I will play here again. Steve
The cow pasture was looking a lot better today; I like the many par threes on the back and some of the drivable par four plus one of best hole in golf the number 10 par 6.
Nice Greens
Nice green. Most players there are higher handicapped golfers which result in slow play. Fairways are undefined
Greens were in great shape but slow and grainy. Fairways were mostly in poor condition with many areas with thin to no fairway grass. However, it is a fun little course to play from time to time.
Dollar a Hole
Not a great course. Tees are rough. Fairways are poor. Greens ok but slow. Not one sand trap. Lots of par 3’s. Value is okay at a dollar a hole.
good times
The staff is excellent as is the owner Tom. I only have one arm so this shorter course is fine with me. The greens are full and play true.
Great value, good greens
Good course for the money, very fun to play. Good layout with water and trees in play, couple holes are blind drives which is fun and the have a 590 yard par 6 to start the back 9. Fairways are mostly manicured pasture grass That are easy to play off but the greens make it worth the play. Very friendly staff and a good burger at the restaurant for $10. Love this course and will play again and again.
Best greens
The best greens we have played on around this area. Tom, the owner, is such a professional, caring individual. I would highly recommend this shorter par 4 course for a nice fast game of golf where your golf game will be greatly tested.
First time on the course
I had been to the driving range multiple times before finally taking the plunge and playing the course.
While I agree with other reviews stating it feels like you’re playing in someone’s backyard, I think it’s endearing.
The front 9 was a bit confusing layout wise but after that it made sense.
As someone who picked up golf two months ago I can say this is a great course for beginners as it has a little of everything.
Staff was exceptionally nice.
Horrible no matter what or how little the cost.
No clue where fairway starts or ends. Greens worst ever on front 9 has oversized pins placed on the extreme edge of a downslope. Course hard to follow as there are almost no cart paths. Only porta potties and zero water stations on course. No matter how little you pay to play here you will lose a day of golf that you could have played somewhere else. Morning stolen by worst golf course experience ever. Will never hold again.
Fun course
For the experienced player you can try different shots. A great course for beginners. When was the last time you saw a par 6.
