Bent Tree Country Club

Good value for afternoon round. Nice, well maintained course.

I have played Bent Tree many times, a course I enjoy. However, I have some grouses this time. The sand traps.. or should I say the mud traps. The course felt over watered and the sand traps were just stodge of wet earth instead of fluffy sand. Now, I think golf demons had been to the course as the yardage markers were gone - usually a post a 150 and a ground marker at 100. I did not see one 150 yard marker and if you don't have a range finder it was difficult to make the correct club selection. I am old school and if there is 150 yard marker I know what club I need based on my position to it. Most tee boxes were good, but there are some that can be described as 'must do better.'

I have played this course around 7 times now and it has always been fun. It’s a nice layout with great greens. The bunkers could use an upgrade, but overall it’s a great value.

The course has a few holes that have some fairways there in rough shape and some of the greens are a bit slow with some patches in them other than that terrific place to play for the cost.

I was concerned that with the plethora of on line T times that the course had gone downhill. I arrived and there were only 8-9 cars in the parking lot so I was further concerned.

I entered the Pro shop to get my receipt and the young lad explained that because of hurricane damage to local residents homes that golf became a low priority, hence the lack of play.

I teed off as a single at 11:15 with no one in front or behind me. I zipped around in 3 hours and 20 minutes. The course condition was very good except for some uprooted trees and traps that were wet or water filled. The greens were true and rolled nicely; some fairways were a little spotty like number 7.

Overall, I was very pleased and will come back again to my favorite public course ( for the money) in Sarasota.

Course was in good shape, staff was friendly and overall we had a good day of golf. Amenities are a bit dated or just lacking like no driving range or restaurant. You can see that this place was probably pretty great in its hayday but it's gotten a bit tired. Greens were quick, fairways and tee boxes were good. We would definitely play again but probably wouldn't rush to do so and would have to consider price first. We paid $50 each which was decent for the course and time of year I'd say.

Was looking forward to playing this course, not just for the unique and challenging layout, but mainly because it would be the first time taking my son out for a round.

Upon arrival, staff was friendly and accommodating. Nice pro shop for a public course.

Once we got to to first tee, group in front of us were going at an average pace (which was fine from our vantage point). Hit from the white, and son hit from red. We played best ball and I had a solid first drive. My son dropped by my ball and we both chipped just shy of the fringe.

By the time we were lining up our next shot, the Marshall was telling us to pick up the pace because the elderly folks behind us were already complaining.

I am always very conscious of my pace of play (especially with my son being a first time golfer). But this was very uncalled for and it would only get worse throughout the front 9. I would have gladly let them play through if they were that irritated, but it was explained to us by the Marshall that they were a part of a tournament and wouldn’t be able to pass us.

Honestly, very disappointing for a first time out on this course. I still gave the club 3 out of 5 stars primarily for the layout and some of the staff. However, in the future, I think management needs to consider how to handle situations like this in a more appropriate manner. Maybe spread tee times out an additional 5 minutes depending on which color tee’s will be played. Or don’t schedule public play when a tournament is right on their heels.

I was a single golfer that paid for two as my brother road along not able to golf because of a back injury. Both times I golfed I caught two foursomes after 4 or 5 holes and they refused to let me play through. Very discouraging as I golf 50-60 rounds a year in new york and golf etiquette is always followed...the course was very nice. They need a marshall!
