Easy peasy
Little slow but a good way to get away for a few hours.
Perfect for me
I have been away from the game for years because of health. This was my first round in several years. Course provided sufficient challenge plus an opportunity for success and encouragement. Most enjoyable. Jp
Your feedback is important to us, JayPea1948. Thank you for sharing your 5-star experience. We look forward to seeing you again at the course soon! Thanks for choosing Harvey Penick Golf Campus.
Pleasantly surprised, Good place for practice
I'd never played the 9-hole course here, only used the driving range and the three-hole pitch 'n putt. I'd even foot-golf'd here before but never pegged it. I live near Hancock, another 9-hole course of similar length, so I usually forget about this place. I'm glad I finally played it.
Comparing it to Hancock, which is about 2,400 yards vs. HPGC's 2,100, it's a tricky site to route a golf course thanks to Walnut Creek and other wetlands. I heard it flooded a few years ago. While the conditions are a step below the Austin munis, the greens here are faster and better to putt than Hancock (which has thick rye grass in the cool months and basically sand in the summertime). There are numerous sets of tees and with six par 3s you can give your mid-irons a workout. The 6th hole is long and narrow and requires a forced carry over the creek. It is no cakewalk.
I was the only one on the course on a weekday afternoon and played it twice, hitting tons of practice shots. I felt nice solitude and enjoyed the many bridges.
As the city of Austin debates Hancock's future, they are considering plans not all that different from what is already at Harvey Penick. And with Bluebonnet Hill closed for good, the east side needs this place more now. I plan to be back a lot this year to play both the 9-hole course and three-hole practice course.
BrandonTuckerGA, thank you for your kind words! We hope to see you again at the course very soon. Please let us know how we can earn those last two stars! Thanks for choosing Harvey Penick Golf Campus.
Cheap
This course is cheap to play. The course is haggard to say the least. The greens are like a motocross track and impossible to play on. Because of the soccer ball golf, the course is all mismatched w Hole numbers. There are few yardage markers on the course and the score card is no help. The check in guy was great and very helpful. Trying to teach a kid on this course I would recommend bringing your own yardage scope, so they can figure out the distances on their clubs. .

Great staff. Poor course condition.
Very good staff. Good golf carts. Terrible greens. Overall two stars for being open in Covid 19 season and complying health requirements. Its still the worst golf course I've played.
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review! We are happy to hear that our staff was accommodating but we are sorry that your experience was anything less than 5 starts. The First Tee of Greater Austin, does not over-seed their greens so what seems like “dead greens” are actually dormant. The greens with sand on them are a result of us aerifying, we apologize if you were not notified about the aerification before your round. Our Superintendent is taking advantage of this unique time and the slow down of play to work on getting the course in its best possible shape. Please give us another try in May and you will certainly have better conditions!
Good for short game practice
Knowing ahead of time that this was a short course with six par threes and three par fours, I knew I would not be hitting my driver but would have time to work on my 7 8 9 and wedges. They just aerated 5 greens so be aware of that. Overall I got what I expected and thought the value was very good. That they were open, had carts and and everything about Harvey Penick and the First Tee program are good for our community made this a worthwhile place to drop in.
Hello, u526640304. We appreciate you taking the time to review the course and rate us . We work hard to maintain the course for everyone's benefit, which means aerifying the greens as part of our regular maintenance schedule and keeping them in good condition. Thank you for the kind words about the First Tee Program :) We look forward to seeing you again soon with better conditions on the green!
Good for what it is
It's a great course for beginners and those learning. The greens are rough as always, but a good short course setup to play twice for 18.
Hi cwaterhouse. We appreciate you taking the time to review the course and rate us. Thank you for the 4 stars! We aim for a 5-star experience, so we always welcome feedback for improvement. Thank you for playing Harvey Penick Golf Campus.
great value
For what you pay to walk this little 9-hole gem it's a great value. It's a 9-hole with three par 4's and the rest are par 3's. There are a few challenging shots where you need to decide whether to lay up crossing a creek or go for it. The greens were very hard and fast, but the tee boxes and fairways were fine. The course shares an 18-hole foot golf course, so it can be a little confusing as to which flag is your flag from the tee box, and tees are not marked, so use an app to figure out where you are on the course. Price of play doesn't include range balls, but a bucket is $6. I walked it and had a nice little day to myself.
Hi user5. Thank you so much for the great review. We are glad you had an incredible time, and we hope to see you again soon! Thanks for choosing Harvey Penick Golf Campus.

Do not book Saturday Mornings-Midday!
If you love Par-3s then this course is for you. Obviously this course has some maintenance issues, but what do you expect. Do not book on Sat mornings as they have a kids golf program and the course is overrun with walking groups of 8yr olds!
Thank you so much for leaving us with your feedback. We value our customer experience, so your review is important to us. We will make note and we hope to see you back!
Soccer/foot golfers all over the place.
We had soccer/foot golfers walking up on us constantly. We could enjoy actually golfing because crowds of foot golfers were so constant and loud
Lions
The workers are great. The course was in good condition except it was the time the greens are sanded.
We appreciate you leaving a review and rating us. We will inform the entire team, so they know their hard work is paying off. Also, the greens should be recovered soon. We look forward to having you back at Harvey Penick Golf Campus!
Golf, the way it used to be
This is a great place for beginners or the casual, infrequent golfer. The course is short - loaded with par 3s - and you share fairways with foot golfers who many times bring their children and dogs. The pace is slow. The cart paths are made of dirt, rocks, and ruts. There's no air conditioning or ice for drinks. It's blue collar golf. Having said all that, the greens were in great shape, challenging but true. Lots of contours, too. The tee boxes were hard as concrete - bring a hammer and nail for starter holes! Overall, it's a great place to work on your short game, if you're not in a hurry.
Thank you for taking the time to review us. Your feedback is valuable, and we look forward to delivering you excellent service again soon. Harvey Penick Golf Campus thanks you!

Nine hole bummer
I would’ve hoped for it to mention that it was a nine hole rather than 18 hold course
Hi there -

Good value
Fun par 30 short course. Maybe one driver hole but it is a good course to work on iron and wedge shots

Good value and good for practicing
The greens need some work to just be consistent. I don’t expect them to be perfect but the lack of consistency certainly made putting more difficult. Course is fun and plays fast and definitely worth the money to get your practice in.
Thank you so much for the great review. We are glad you had an incredible time, and we hope to see you again soon!
