Titleist in the rough
If you know Austin golf, this course can be described as a cross between Jimmy Clay and Hancock. Only 9 holes, 6 par threes and 3 par fours., but well-designed and visually appealing. Has that East Austin terrain and plant life. The only problem was the need for some mowing, weeding and fallen tree removal.
A good option for kids and beginners, but still a good challenge from the back tees. A better option than Hancock if you are okay with mostly short holes.
Course lacks good directional signage
I found the course had inadequate and some confusing signage. There is a mix of golf and foot golf and it was difficult to determine how to get to the next tee locations as there were multiple paths without signage. Some of the paths had fallen trees blocking them. The out of bounds areas were well marked however, with warning signs about rattlesnakes. While there was rain in the forecast for later in the day, the groundskeeper was diligently turning on the sprinklers almost immediately before we reached almost every green. In some cases he would park next to us and wait for us to complete our strokes, which was bothersome. If you decide to play this course, and you are a beginner to intermediate skilled golfer, bring plenty of extra balls with to the course, as the fairways are lined with heavy vegetation and trees, and you will be hitting over water several times.
good course
The course is only 9 hole course but fairways are good and greens are also good.
awesome
I have played harvey penick a coupe of times and the greens fairways and tee box have never been better. Go play it just for the love of the game of golf.
good course
I like Harvey penick because the course is in good shape and some challenging holes. The greens are perfect and the fairways are narrow. Overall, the course is a perfect course and i will play again.
Course in tough shape
I know winter is just finishing but greens were in bad shape. The foot golf traffic is a bad accident waiting to happen.
Bad greens
Couse looks like they lost their greens. Most were crusty whkch gave bumpy rolls. Played behind ending groups of kid tournament which slowed plsy .
Greens
Greens were in great condition. Great place to play for practicing short game
Cart path needs work
I enjoy this course but when it comes to driving the cart it's pretty bumpy on the cart path at times , so many lot holes and divots.
Fun and quick
Greens are in excellent condition. Tee boxes a little dry. Overall good condition.
Great for beginners
This course is great for beginners. A lot of par 3s. The par 4s are short. Easy course with good greens that roll true.
Harvey Pennick 2nd time
Overall a reasonably good time. This course is close to my house so in a time pinch it's a decent 2.5 hour round of 18. There are no par 5 holes and prepare to use the driver on only one or two holes. Great for beginners and those looking to get iron/putting usage.
Good short course.
Greens were nice and green. Cart paths could use some smoothing out. Make me want to stay on the fairway.
Course conditions diminish the value pennick once had
The course conditions the last few times I have played here are atrocious. There's literally hard packed dirt on the putting greens. Some areas of the greens have a muddy trench where water run off passes through.
The fairways have barely any grass, and are hard as a rock. Even the tee boxes are so packed that it's almost impossible to remove the tee.
The last time I played it can be really tough finding your ball in the middle of the fairway due to all the leaves and junk.
Some of the bunkers are not even filled with sand.
The cart paths are mostly dirt paths that are rocky and very bumpy.
If the greens were in better shape, the pace of play and price would be right.
Very disappointed
The course was in terrible condition... Save your money! Definitely not worth the price. The greens were just awful. 0/10
