Never again
While some of the problems I encountered were directly due to the terrible storms we've had in the Austin area of late, the main problems were not.
For starters they hand you a score card/map that has Soccer Golf markings on it so very confusing as to where the next hole is. Several holes had no sign so you werent sure if you were still following the right path/progression and the cart path wasn't clearly marked either so at times we had to just drive over approach areas.
Call out the Maintence Crew
Not a place for serious golfers. You can lose the ball in the fairways. The second cut is like rough. Greens were not as bad but not a quality course.
Terrible
$7.00 for 18 holes. First of all it's a nine hole course. Number two hole is wiped out. So it's a 8 hole and the want you to play some hole twice. We paid for 18 quit after 7. The fairway grass was blown into wind rows where it was mowed. Only a couple fairways were mowed. The ready was about 8 inches long. Most tee boxes needed mowed. The cart paths were deep mud with lots of standing water. We had water and mud all over our golf bags as well as our shoes and legs. We got out of the cart path on one hole only to be reprimanded by the guy that runs the place. To top things off, he demanded a credit card to hold and our drivers license to use the cart. He took my credit card and someone else returned it to me. I have no idea how any hands my card went through while the held it. This place is a far cry from a golf course. It for sure takes the fun out of golf. I will never and Iran never play here again. My wife, who was my playing partner share my feelings.
Fair
The course was really beat up and had not been mowed. The tee boxes has crab grass and we're not nice at all. The greens were very bad and hard to judge due to the roughness of the grass. Not very enjoyable round of golf
Know what to expect & it's enjoyable.
Course in rough shape with dirt / mud cart paths, one hole closed due to mud (imagine the cart path in places!) which made the course a little confusing first run through. Can't blame them for the rains but the greens being dry were still terrible; rough, lotta sand spots (i.e., sparse grass), a few weeds. Fringe needed mowing; rough would have meant a lost ball.
Young man working the "pro shop" (you gotta see the pro shop. lol) was extremely friendly & helpful. Nice fella.
Other golfers were friendly & courteous until ...
started 2nd 9 (9-hole course; double thru for 18) and there were about 6 young fellas playing "soccer golf" on 1st hole (first time I'd heard of it and it was pretty cool actually). Very slow and no offer to let me play through. After waiting about 10 minutes, they had kicked their soccer balls far enough that I could tee off. Laid up about 50 yards behind them & figured no way I was waiting so picked up and went on to 2nd hole ahead of them. Wasted a beautiful drive!.
Management should police the soccer golfers for course courtesy. However, there were two couples I encountered playing same later on who were courteous and allowed me to play through.
Overall, I had a great time but think others should know what to expect. Not bad at all for the cost. I'll go back when I have a free afternoon because it's near by, quick play (9 holes) and convenient ...
Not a course to play actual golf
I've seen better 9 hole courses in many small towns across central and south Texas. The condition of this course was laughable and it shouldn't be touted as actual "golf course", and only a practice facility with the practice being limited to only the hitting range. The website is very misleading and makes this look like its a legitimate 9 hole golf course.
COW PASTURE CONDITIONS
I have played this golf course for awhile now and have to say the fairways have gotten better this year because of the rain that Austin has been blessed with but the greens are in miserable shape and need lots and lots of TLC by someone who knows about golf courses. The fairways are still not up to par because there are like three different kinds of grass growing on the fairways. The sides of the fairways are way to high with Johnson grass and weeds and is an accident waiting to happen, I.e.Snakebites etc. If you hit there, which I don't but it really should not have grass growing 3-4 feet in height. Ever since they have partnered and included foot golf to help raise money to keep the golf course open it has diminished the quality of the course considerably. There are a million mosquitoes this time of the year So highly recommend if you do go play take a can of it in your bag. They have carts for those who need them but if you play and want great exercise then walk this course. This course has the potential to be a hidden gem but it won't ever be with foot golf there. The range is pretty good but the putting green needs to be leveled and made much better. They don't have an area to practice chipping which they should. When it rains be extremely careful walking to the first tee box area on the wet sidewalk because the sidewalk is extremely slippery and it could be a day of golf for you that will never get started because of a back or head injury and I'm not even kidding. Good luck to you if you pick to play there but you've been forewarned.
Pay for what you get
First off I paid $13 for 18 holes so I should have expected what was to come.
They did not have a cart ready for us so we had to wait about 30 minutes after our tee time. Then had to skip the first hole because the mini course wrapped through the entire first hole, and it was covered in kids.
Greens were run down as expected, but okay for the value. Overall the course would have been fine if it weren't for the delay for the cart, kids everywhere, and the lack of help from the front office guy.
I wouldn't recommend playing there no matter how cheap it is.
Yikes
I played this course 7 years ago and it was lovely. I came back expecting great things and was in awe of the poor greens. They were very bumpy!!! The foot golf was a terrible idea. Those players are unaware of golf etiquette and disrupted our play.
The pair of golfers who played in front of us had a dog with them that was running by the cart and all over the greens. When I came to return the key to the cart, there was no attendant in the proshop.
The cart paths were extremely rough!!! Tee boxes were littered with broken tees and divots that hadn't been repaired. I was extremely disappointed in the quality of the course. You have a lot of work to do to make things right.
Most dangerous course ever played
There is good and bad. The good: The location is absolutely beautiful and it is refreshing to see a facility that promotes golf for our youth. Thank you for that. The bad: The city is asking for trouble. There is always a risk of being hit by a golf ball on any course but here they allow "foot golf" to be played at the same time golf is being played. (Foot golf is played with a soccer type ball and kicked into holes somewhat larger than a basketball hoop). To avoid foot golfers, we had to wait up to ten minutes for them to clear the fairway. Also, the cart path between holes 7 and 8 is within range of of golfers on the driving range. Other than that, greens were horrible. Wish I could be more positive.
pasture
Horrrible course, like a pasture, the paths were not concrete , dirt and mud. The green were filled with dead grass or crab grass. HORRIBLE
too much foot traffic
Too much foot golf traffic! Greens had too much crab grass
You get what you pay for.
Good place for someone who is learning to play. Only complaint is that you have to play around football golf players.
Great course to practice short game.
Every player knows that short game practice is the best way to play great golf - - and this course has it.
Interesting concept--VERY BAD IDEA!
Regular golf and foot golf on the same course---a VERY BAD IDEA!! To begin, the car paths are better suited for four wheeling! Regular golf and Foot Golf fairways intersected in places and on the 7th hole, there were twelve people going twelve different directions. Foot golfers just seemed to hang around, oblivious to regular golfers trying to hit. Too many flags and at times, the foot golfers were shooting at the regular golf greens. Greens and fairways were in really bad condition and tee markers not easily seen. Several times teeing off, we had soccer balls rolling onto the tee box, Lots of trash on the edges of the fairways, so as we played, we also picked up litter. Best part of "playing" out there was watching aircraft fly over. If the First Tee kids are learning to play here, they will be able to play anywhere. Commendable effort by the city to provide recreation activities for residents, but make a decision on regular golf or foot golf and invest in it completely or not at all.
Fun little course
So I played hooky from work and took my partner who had never played golf before. The pace was slow but since it was the middle of the day, that was fine. What a wonderful little course. 18 holes played in about 3 1/2 hours, just the two of us. I will be going back.
Absolutely awful
Im not sure why this is being offered in golfnow.com as an 18 hole. Its more like a training center. No par 5 at all, no cart path at all. You can often see the conditions of the course by looking at the pro shop...which is a mobile townhome. This not even a 3 star course. Seriously, do not go there
Cute diversion - could be a better experience
This could be a great course -- with some effort.
The course shares a kick-ball course and there are flags pins everywhere -- which confused me on hole 1. The score card offers no diagrams of the holes. This is confusing until you play 9 holes and learn the course. Personally, I don't like the kick-ball course. I don't remember Harvey writing about it in his little red book.
The natural beauty of huge Texas Pecan trees and wild areas bounding the fairways could make this an excellent course, with a little imagination and cash to implement a links-style design.
The greens are good, and roll true. There was some damage by the wildlife that is abundant in the area. I was disappointed to have to repair dozens of ball marks on the greens -- Come on players - fix your divots.
Overall, I enjoyed the round and will return to play again. Great place to work on your 3-par skills. And though the course is short -- it is a good challenge for any player.
I also like that you can donate your unused golf equipment for the First Tee program, which meets at the course.
Coures just to busy
the course was to busy with way to many flags it was my first time playing the course now that they have added soccer golf and it just had way too many flags on the course.. it took me a couple on holes to catch on to what all the flags was all about.
This course has too many distractions
I went to play today for the 12:50 Tee time and I was paired up with another pair. There were too many "Foot Golfers" (playing golf with a soccer ball) in front of us and they were just staying there. We managed to go along with them for few holes and then there were no foot golfers. During the back-nine (this is a 9 hole course) there were a group of about 18 middle school kids playing. And each hole took us about half an hour of wait. I understand this is a good course for beginners like me but it is too crowded sometimes.
