Shalimar Pointe Golf Club
About
Located along the shores of Choctawhatchee Bay, Shalimar Pointe Golf Club enjoys a scenic, rolling landscape dotted with trees. This often-overlooked golf course has been considered one of the Emerald Coast's best-kept secrets but the word is beginning to get out. The course, due to its challenging but playable nature, has been used for U.S. Open qualifiers and it was host to the Emerald Coast Tour. The layout features immaculately manicured greens that are framed by strategic bunkering and water hazards on a number of holes. The golf course is challenging but fair with five sets of tees to accommodate players of all skill levels. The course is Shalimar Pointe's main attraction but it is complemented by extensive practice facilities including an expansive driving range, putting green and chipping green.

Sand Everywhere!
Like most Pete Dye courses it has bunkers all over the course. Older course but in decent shape and fun to play.
Great Layout
There was a light sanding layer on the greens, not aerated though, just sand and fertilizer. Hole 10 had a hydraulic leak damage but didn't affect any putting on the green. Fairways are plush and green. It's been 5 days since I played, so the greens are probably worked in with all the heavy rains we've had and back to normal.
Great Management
Course is challenging and in pretty good shape. I think for the money it's hard to beat in the area. The people that run the course set it above the others in the area. Complimentary range balls. Tees in the carts. And they gave us fresh oranges to enjoy while we played. Felt like our business was really appreciated.
Rock hard
It looks nice at first but the greens have grass that's as tall as the fairway and some spots that are proper height. The greens were absolutely tiny and not well taken care of. The entire course was as hard as a rock. If you got any bit of a divot like you do with any iron, you lost major distance because you had to cut through the rock. The layout is tight but manageable. The worst part was pace of play. They had everybody start on the back 9. When I was on the back 9, I spent more time waiting for the groups in front of us to play than I did playing or even driving from shot to shot. It was super congested. It took my wife and I nearly 3 hours to play 9 holes on a cart. Then the front 9 was empty. After we left the tee box of #1 we didn't see a single golfer. Why didn't they spread people out to manage the crowd?
Everyone was nice
Even the players on the course that were members thanked us for our business. This is not the muni. The lay out is challenging and the greens are swift with false fronts or sides. Only negative was a few of the tee boxes were tough to get a tee in the ground; but nothing to stew about. Adding this course in my rotation for sure!
relaxing
nobody breathing down our neck. Wonderful!

Fantastic layout
I played this course for the first time today. And while I may not have played well, I throughly enjoyed the layout. Fairways were better than fine. Greens were slow, but they were pretty undulated too. We played in a little over 3 hours with 3 ladies in front of us. I would highly recommend this course, to anyone. And there's an Air Force museum 5 minutes away when you're done. Great local neighborhood course. 5 stars. Job well done.
While improvements have been made, this still essentially remains the same course.
I don't get why the price has nearly tripled since the so-called " improvements" were made. For the last 10 or more years SP has been my go to course. But I along with several of my golf buddies have been priced out. Oh well, I guess it's supposed to be a rich man's game anyway.. good luck
Shalimar Pointe
We thought the course was in good shape considering all the rain they have had. We could only play the back nine both days we played. Staff was friendly. We thought it was a good value.
Had a great time
Got there 45 minutes early to get settled in and hit a few balls on the range and was promptly met by a man with the key to my cart before I got to the clubhouse. He notified me of everything about the course and when I could tee off, where to find my range balls waiting for me, and what side of the course we would be starting on. The course looked great. Grass looked great. Rough was very rough and challenging. Sand bunkers everywhere made it challenging but not too bad. The landing zone for your tee shots is what made it the most challenging in my opinion. It’s very narrow at most LZ’s. The greens speeds were a little inconsistent but were in good shape. Great pace of play. Never had to stop and wait on anyone and nobody was pushing my group. After the round, someone will clean your clubs and the food in the clubhouse is very good. Cart girls didn’t get started til after I finished my round around 1030 so I can’t comment on them. 10/10 though, would definitely and am definitely gonna play again when I return to ft Walton area for our annual trip.
