Located along the shores of Choctawhatchee Bay, Shalimar Pointe Golf Club enjoys a scenic, rolling landscape dotted with trees. This often-overlooked golf course has been considered one of the Emerald Coast's best-kept secrets but the word is beginning to get out. The course, due to its challenging but playable nature, has been used for U.S. Open qualifiers and it was host to the Emerald Coast Tour. The layout features immaculately manicured greens that are framed by strategic bunkering and water hazards on a number of holes. The golf course is challenging but fair with five sets of tees to accommodate players of all skill levels. The course is Shalimar Pointe's main attraction but it is complemented by extensive practice facilities including an expansive driving range, putting green and chipping green.

Hard turf
The clubhouse and staff were nice. I had read the the course had been upgraded and heard the same last week from a couple of visitors at a different course. The fairways and greens were as hard as a rock. The grass on the fairways was dormant and the greens looked like a brown ceramic surface. The greens played extremely fast. Hopefully things will improve when the weather gets nicer.
Wide Open but Challenging
Some of the holes were pretty challenging although the it was during the dormant season so there was very little green grass.
fun but needs better conditioning of greens and fairways
Shalimar is a nice golf course with an interesting and challenging layout, a good variety of golf holes. We played in February and were not impressed with the conditions, even tho it is winter and the bermuda grass is dormant. While most greens were okay, a few were pretty thin and bare in spots along the edges - all reasonably puttable. Quite a few fairways had sandy areas and very firm, hard packed, thin grassy areas (making for a firm, tight lie with no give on a lot of shots).
Overall, it is an enjoyable course and good value in the $35-40 range (but we paid quite a bit more than that and expected better course conditions).
Shalamar Pointe
Loved the layout of the course. The greens were not your normal flat greens as they had nice undulating surfaces to putt up or down. The course required thinking about how to attack the greens. Really enjoyed the experience. The staff were very good to work with. Thanks.
Good Greens
Nice course. Prices in Destin Ft. Walden area are high in Jan - March...if you get a good price this course is worth it. Greens and T boxes are good and course lay-out is nice. Fairways are OK (not great). Will play again.

I really like the layout,,when everything is growing, I bet it is beautiful, ut for February, it was very good.

Decent course for the price
We had a nice connection and played for a great price. Range was on mats with older range limited balls. Golf shop and outdoor staff were VERY FRIENDLY and a highlight of our experience. The time of year didn’t help the conditions which were brown and ‘rough’ fairways and some of the greens had some pretty rough spots. The greens, which we were told were renovated late last year, were VERY firm and fast. They were generally unreceptive to approaches and we needed to land off the front or just on the front to hold them. In hindsight we would have putted more from off the greens. We were paired with a very talkative snow bird member who was anxious to share every detail of each hole which wasn’t optimal but not the courses fault and has likely influenced this review a bit. If you go in with the right expectations you can enjoy this value course and one of the best deals in the area.
Nice!
Greens were as good as you could want. Speed, slopes, condition, and challenging. Just fun. Bermuda grass is dormant now but fairways were very playable. Price was just right. Staff friendly. I was very satisfied. It met my expectations. I'll be back soon!

Fairways are not that great.
Thought the greens were quick. Don’t get too aggressive on putts.
Appreciate the free range balls.
Will be much nicer when things green up.
