Cowan Creek Golf Course
About
Cowan Creek Golf Course is the newest of three courses that are part of Del Webb's Sun City retirement community. Cowan Creek has a resort-style layout with a front nine that plays through the community, with the homes set well back from the fairways, and a back nine that stretches across the scenic Hill Country landscape. The back nine is slightly tougher than the front. Although the golf course is wide-open there are some mesquite trees and cacti that add some scenery throughout. The layout features large landing areas, forgiving fairways, and there are few tricks and hazards, all of which make it an approachable course for beginners. There are some challenges though that will appeal to more experienced players including a few blind shots, elevated greens and tees, and some forced carries. Throughout Cowan Creek Golf Course, golfers will find some interesting risk-reward opportunities.

Cowan Creek!
First i'd like to thank the pro shop attendant. I was approximately 20 minutes late for a 1 PM Hotdeal and he let me go ahead and play. Course layout I'd rate as easy since fairways are fairly wide and greens relatively flat. Conditions great for middle of summer, looks like the greens were punched a month ago and rolled fine today with moderate speed. Tees and fairways nice no bad lies, you could put from the fringes. Bunkers sand a little clumby form rains but easy to get out from. Top notch course and facilty. Some nice views and interesting tees shots over hills. Play it if you ahve a chance.
great shape
always enjoy the Sun City experience Only thing is GPS is for all 3 courses..... and I was on Legacy Hills for 16 holes ;-( make sure you set this feature correctly Course was empty ...100 degrees outside plus i guess the locals were sweltering.... also after round beer had to be obtained at White Wing and as this is a retirement community happy hour ends early and I mean early ( 2 pm )
excellent layout
You will definitely need to bring your own beverages as ice is provided. Good gps system. Some holes are cart path only. Fairways are in excellent condition. Greens are super fast
A fair challenge
I have grown to like this little track because it always seems to be in good shape (well groomed and even t-boxes, fair rolling greens, plush fairways and ruff that suits the overall challenge of the course. The practicing facility is above average as well.
Course in great shape!
The only thing lacking is a snack bar or restaraunt. No food or beverages to speak of. Not even a vending machine.
Weekend golf
Enjoy the layout of course and option to bring own beverages. Always plenty of ice and water in coolers on course. Pace of play is sometimes slower but expect that sometimes.
Always enjoy this Course
Great track. Always in good shape and a great design.
Best of the three
The course was in great shape as usual. The pace was good as usual in the afternoon heat. That is why I play later.
Good course
The course was in great shape. The greens rolled very well. Cowan Creek is the best course out of the three in Sun City
afternon rate was outstanding
Outstanding use of woods, creeks, rocks, and elevations for a 'classic' central Texas golf experience. Wild flowers and other aesthetics were outstanding as was condition of course and pace of play etc.
Great Course
This is a great course with good dollar value. The green locations present a good challenge, while the fairways are open and forgiving. The greens could use a tad bit of work, but overall a great experience. I'm 35, but felt welcome by the older community.
Slow pace with lack of service
Keep in mind this is a member type course from the Del Webb community which is Sun City so going in it's expected to be looked at different as members for the community require a minimum age of 55 or older I believe so the members, to me, look down at you. Plus side to them being at that age is course traffic is died down after noon due to the heat from my previous experiences here as well as White Wing. This past Sunday however had multiple tee times after 12 but for majority of twosomes with occasional foursomes the pace could've been better but due to lack of Marshall being out there it was annoying slow with 5 plus minutes of wait time between shots. At each tee box the group behind us were waiting as we were waiting for the slow foursome ahead of us to take their second shot. All avoidable if you ask me but it is what it is and this wasn't the worse part about my round. The poor experience started from the proshop attendant Lyle who couldn't have lacked more customer service skills when checking in for our round. Now I use golfnow regularly as it's fast and easy to schedule tee times and will definitely do so in the future but when asking Lyle about range balls being included as most courses do, he snapped back at me with "we don't offer range balls through Golfnow, you need to read your contract". Found his attitude to be unnecessary since we were paying customers that they allow to play there. Some people just have bad days I guess. Oh yeah, one last tid bit was the group ahead of us, which had at least two members seeing how old they looked were acting like a bunch of jerks and purposely snatched one of our golf
balls when they walked off the green as they believed it was too close to them when hit and after confronting them they were appauled at the accusations being made even though we watched the fat one with the sloppy iron play in the Titleist name engraved bag pick it up and stare us down. I'm not even going to tell you what this old punk did on the par 3 16th. Lucky for you is all I have to say. Price of green fee is only thing now enticing about Cowan Creek so for me Legacy Hills and White Wing it ia here on out. Rant over
Cowan Creek GC Experience
Course was in excellent shape tee to green, 5 Sets of tee markers. Pins were good for using distance finders, Color GPS on cart was great
Good value.
Several sets of tees to accomodate most skill levels. A nice layout, enjoyed playing. Staff and other golfers were friendly.
Excellent pracitice areas. Course not too difficult from blue tees, or shorter tees. Only negative was that uphill putts were somewhat slower than desired. If greens were mowed a bit slicker, I would give a 5 for great value.
Never going back
Booked time on GolfNow, great price....that is where greatness ended. I showed up for my tee-time and was informed they were doing a shotgun tee time, in all the times I've used golfnow I've never been placed in a shotgun start for tee times. Then the driving range was packed in and an old man in typical sun city fashion told me I'd been warming up long enough and picked up my clubs and moved them. He proceeded to chip balls at me until I moved. Once the round started the pace of play was good and the layout has so much potential, it's too bad that the spoiled old people of Sun City ruin an opportunity for people to enjoy the game of golf. I've played top tier private clubs as a visitor and felt more welcome. They can have their golf course, I'll never be going back.
another dissappointing experience at Cowan Creek
For the 4 th time this was a horrible golf outing. Poor service, slow slow play, fairways brown and rock hard. Greens were about a 5 on the stimp. Just a terrible golf experience. Plus the only course I have ever played where no/ cart girls or any food n beverage. I ll never go back to Sun City again.
Do not play any Sun City courses!!
As almost always the case out here, the conditions were intolerable. From trying to check in at the ship(nauseatingly slow) to the atrosious pace of play to the brown patched, dry, hard as a rock fairways,to the bumpy, inconsistent, rock hard greens...Cowan Creek was, again a waste of my money and a day of golf. I plan 3/4 tournaments a year and, against my will,I took my mgr out to see if I could think of bringing a tourney there...not a chance, horrible experience last 4 time at Sun City...never,never again.
This course is still getting green
I don't have any further to comment other than the ratings i have given. i like playing this course.
Great course, nice facility, no food or beverage!
This was the first time playing Cowan Creek, loved the course and the greens were perfect, but there is no snack bar or beverage service. I think they should warn players there is absolutely nothing to eat here and no beverage cart.
I guess the facility is BYOB and BYOFood. I will definitely play here again, but will pack my own supplies.
