Very fun course to play
While Steel Canyon may not be the prettiest course I've ever played (due to the power line towers and lack of trees) it was definitely a thrill to play. I really enjoyed the diversity of the holes and the many elevation changes. I'm not a very good golfer so I found the course to be fairly challenging. Again, I definitely loved playing here, the staff was kind, the course was very well maintained, and the greens were beautiful.
Great place to play with my 10 year old...we will be back for sure!
Pro shop staff were incredibly friendly; course was decent for this time of year and most of all my 10 year old son and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We will be back often!!
Fun track
Fun, quick little course. Every hole has some little challenge to it, and the elevation changes give the course some real character. The kids cutting through the course from the adjoining apartment complex were a little distracting.
More challenging than I expected for a short course, great value.
We were only able to play nine holes because of the cold weather. The course was in good shape for this time of the year. I am looking forward to going back when spring finally gets here.
unique and challenging
A unique and challengig course! The course has lots of hills and contours which lends itself to many chalenging approaches. Uphills downhills and sidehills are both scenic and difficult. Accuracy is key to a good score.
Although an executive course it has plenty of par 4's and even a 500 yard par 5. The greens are in very good shape for this time of year. Well worth a few hours in the sun :-)
Fun executive course with nice elevation changes.
Good course and has good challenging shot values. Uphill and downhill approach shots are well mixed and the length of the holes are well varied. There is one par 5 with a fun 2nd shot playing downhill toward a well bunkered green. Number 12 is a short par 3 to a green that sharply drops off down a 30 ft hill. Even balls hitting the green can roll off and down the hill. The new Champion grass greens are too bouncy and spongy for me but after they topdress a few times this spring they will become better to approach shots and putts.
Good course but expensive
Ok first off when you get to the course the club house is very well maintained and practice facility is just what you need. The course layout is a bit tricky. You need to stay focused on the cart path or might get mixed up with other holes.
The layout can become confusing. Knowing which hole your aiming at can get mixed up. But when you become a regular and know the course it can be quite fun, some holes would look like something from the PGA. Right now in February the grass is looking very dead and destroyed the greens are getting away from them but they use some fertilizer to keep them playable. Almost looks like they sprayed it green. But it's a course worth playing in season.
Very Challenging
The course itself it challenging and the people in the clubhouse are very efficient! Kyle is the most knowledgeable staff member I have encountered in quite some while.
PEAKS-N-VALLEYS
This course was unlike any other course that I've ever played. Nice driving range with a bus at 135 yards out, made for nice target practice. The grey haired gentleman was very friendly even told me where to aim on a few holes. Definitely need a cart, this is not for the fainted heart. Short but tough par 3's. Undulating greens will challenge your putting game
good value for price. short game challenge
Easy in and out at low price. Fun. Not for country club snobs.
Golf with the hum of electricity
I was a bit skeptical of this course when I heard it was surrounded by power lines and radio towers. I pictured some kind of strange, death valley type scene in my head.
What I found was a more-than-pleasant surprise.
The course is a decent size; it's not so huge that a cart is all together necessary, but it isn't so small that you could walk the whole thing and not be tired. It's a nice mix between short holes and moderate long drives; straight shooters, hill-top perches and everything in between.
The value for the money is obscene. 18 holes of excellent golf for $15, if you're brave enough to walk the course during the week, and $25 with a cart. Weekend rates are marginally more expensive, but really, it's so affordable that you don't even need a discount from this fine website!
The course was very well maintained. The fairways were a good speed with thick grass even for the winter, and the greens were the softest I've ever felt while maintaining a crazy speed that you wouldn't think was possible. The atmosphere was very peaceful; really quiet; the only real noise was the ever-present hum of electricity and a bit of an angry crackle if you managed to strike an errant shot into some power lines.
Overall an excellent course; a challenge for all players, regardless of ability, and one that I'll come back to again.
Interesting course to play more frequently and work on your game..
This is a short 18 hole public course. I find the Greens to be in great shape for a public course. They're actually better greens then some private courses I have played. The greens are relatively bouncy and fast Bermuda. Some may not like the greens but it minimizes divets and inconsistency of the ball travel. My son is an aspiring golfer who is 6 years old. I have time in the afternoon to play with him and not have others breathing down our necks. I can coach him along the way and teach him proper etiquette while we play. Kids pay their age so 6 dollars for my son. This creates a greatest learning environment and a laid back atmosphere.
Great round of golf without taking a full day to play.
This course is in great shape and can be played when you can't afford to give up an entire day to golf. The price is the best I have found for the excellent condition of the course.
Nice features and friendly folks
This is a great course to get in a quick round. They keep it well maintained for the most part, and the staff is very friendly. It really can't be beat for the money. I take clients and friends there frequently and they all enjoy a good outing.
well kept and difficult greens,
Great place to work on your short game and putting, Just long enough to get you into trouble.
Great for new golfers
This is one of my favorite local courses. The staff is professional and courteous. The pace of play is pretty good, sometimes slower on the weekend, but if you are new to the game and if you don't want a marshal breathing down your back, this is the place.
My one criticism is the up keep of the course, 90% of the greens are in great shaped, but the course does need some maintenance.
For the price, this is a great place to develop your golf game!
Course needs a serious trimming.
The greens were in great shape, however, they need to cut back around the greens. The rough, is well, rough - so hit every shot on the fairway. The power lines drag the rating down some. Some unique holes, but overall, probably won't play here again.
