Pretty Good
Was visiting the in laws again and my brother in law and I got a chance to play a round together. One of the few decent and affordable priced public options in the area it seems. Course wasn’t in as good a shape as I remember. The greens had just been punched and sanded….can’t do much about it. It’s necessary. It wasn’t as awful putting as I was afraid it would be. It’s been a cool early summer. The bermuda hasn’t taken off great yet. Not really any difference in fairway and rough. Some weeds in fairways. But not terrible. Some tee boxes were pretty rough. Bunkers were wet hard packed sand. However, overall not bad. And the layout is still great and alot of fun. If you’re looking for decent golf at a decent price. It’s a good option.
Great course out in the country
I was visiting my in laws in Jacksonville NC for the weekend and my brother in law was excited to take me to this course said it was a great value for the money and he was right. I think it’s $46 on weekends but he had a military ID and gift certificate so we paid less that. Even at $46 I think it’s a decent value. The course is pretty open off the tee. However, it’s also rather long with several par 4 over 400 and a par 5 at 573 yards. The Bermuda rough is pretty thick too. So the length and the rough defend the course. If you keep it in the amble fairways it’s not too difficult. The tees and fairways and rough were all cut and in good shape. The greens were also in good shape. Rolled really smooth and were a good pace not too fast or too slow. I really enjoyed the course and would play it again in a heartbeat next time I’m in the area.
Nice course
We have played here a number of times this past year. Some challenging holes, for me always #10 and #11.
Poor rude and laziness
Price is expensive, the golf course marshall was rude and unwilling to help. What I mean is, my brother rented clubs (which were garbage). We get to the third hole, my brother realized that five of his clubs were left handed and he is right handed. I ask the Marshall if he could return the left handed clubs and bring us back right handed, his response was "I don't get paid to do dat". Just like that. Then he says let the next two guys play through. I said we that we are, we are waiting for them to get up here so we can let them play through, Then he says"you shouldn't' be here". And that is why I didn't renew my membership. By the way, me and my brother are very good at golf. My brother still shot a 85 with 7 different right handed clubs. Well bear trail I won't be back there all golf season long.
First time at Bear Trail but not the last.
Vacationing at Emerald Isle and found this course by using GolfNow. Tried it out on Wed. for $32 and loved it and found it on GolfNow on on Thurs. for $25. What a deal. The course was in great shape. Looks deceivingly easy but was actually quite challenging. Fairways are wide and greens are fast. Staff was friendly and helpful. We will be going back.
Excellent Course!
Best value for you dollar, hands down! The course was in pristine condition. All grasses were phenomenal!
Great condition
While other courses in the area suffer...BearTrail is in great shape.
Best Course in the Area
I have played almost all the course in the area and this is the best bang for your buck. Can't wait to get back there.
Worth the trip
Good, fair set up, excellent greens. Even though we had to play cart path only because of the heavy rains the night before , it was still enjoyable.
Nice track
Nice course. Decent, easy layout great for recreational "vacation round." Fairways very wide and rough very light so pace of play was great. Our foursome was by no means strong and we finished in 4hr 5min. I used to play several times a week and now play a few times a year and found the course perfect for my "unskill" level.
Greens had been aerated recently and were very slow. A hefty rain the evening prior also softened the course up. Fairways and greens all needed a mow but were perfectly acceptable. All in all a good time and would definitely go back. Just might do so this week!
Good spot
Good spot for the price. Does not drain well so we were cart path only.
Great value, course was in awesome shape.
Had an 8:10 tee time, trying to beat the heat. We were loaded up and ready to play by 8:00 and the super nice starter let us take off. Had two adults and an 8 year old. We let a couple singles play through but other than that, we hardly saw a person in front of us or behind. Greens and the rest of course was in awesome shape.
Hidden Gem
What a nice course ticked off the beaten path near Jacksonville NC. The layout is fun, yet challenging. The greens have surprising amount of countor for a flat-land course. I found the round to challenge me from the tips yet seems to be fun for golfers of all levels. Good shots were rewarded, while errant shots could cost you strokes. I will play here again soon.
Great course for the price.
Played here several times. Course is always in great shape. Greens had recently been punched when we played and were a little bumpy but normally they are smooth as silk. Course is challenging but not to much so. Had a great time and I will surely be back soon.
Great experience
One of the best local golf course
Value +
Good, fun course and an excellent value.
bear trail
course in great shape. greens smooth, fast and true.
Nice Layout
The course was still wet because of heavy rains last week. However, the greens were in very good condition considering it is January.
Looking forward to playing Bear Trail again in the summer.
Nice layout
Nice course layout. Had a lot of rain before we played so course was pretty wet. Would like to go back when it was drier. Very friendly staff.
