Bear Trail Golf Club

About
Bear Trail Golf Club opened in 2007, making it one of Onslow County's newest courses. The championship course offers many risk-reward opportunities that will appeal to low and high handicappers alike. You'll encounter many challenges including a variety of water hazards and strategically placed bunkers but the hazards are nicely balanced by wide, gently rolling fairways, which offer a little room for error. You'll still have to be careful though, since tall trees and rough line both sides of most of the fairways. The golf course is as scenic as it is challenging, with natural wetland areas connected by rustic wooden bridges. There are some tricky holes but overall the round is gentle enough for beginners to approach with confidence. In addition to the golf course, Bear Trail also has a driving range and putting green available for golfers to use.

Reviews
Great Value, Friendly Folks!
I went out at 10:50 on a Tuesday, pace of play was great, done in under 4 hours. Course was in great shape. All the trouble is pretty easy to spot, no real surprises. Would certainly go back if I'm in the area!
great value
good conditions fairways green and cut greens still a little rough from being airiated but will be in great shape in about one week. good golfing round.
Golf treasure
Favorite golf course around Topsail beaches. Have made it our home course away from home. Quite area, great greens and fairways.
lots of water-sand
fairways damp & could use more grass. good pace of play
A beautiful course and layout, but below average facilities
Wonderful layout with many wide open fairways as the holes wind through heavily wooded areas. This is a very forgiving course with hidden challenges. The course does retain a lot of water. I wouldn't play after a moderate rain. The day we played, the fairways were very wet and not draining. I was surprised to find out that the clubhouse was a double wide trailer. No changing room/locker room. Bathroom could have been cleaned a bit better. With that being said, this is one of the best courses in Jacksonville. NC. I will play here again.
course should have been closed, too wet,to play
course should have been closed, due to rain, the days ahead, water standing everwere.
a passionate must play
course was great conditions, easy to manage, easy entrance and exit, great get a way
Long and Slow
One of the better courses in eastern North Carolina. However, everyone wants to walk and the course is long so things can get very slow. Beautiful layout which is a ton of fun to play but have 5 hrs to get through the course.
Course members get preferred (morning) tee times so have lots of water with you in the afternoon...
was a very nice course and met nice people while I was there!
Greens in great shape, Fairways were very good, weather was windy,,,,,but not too many people control that. Course a little out of the way but worth the trip.
Good course if you can get a deal
Wonderful course if you can score a hot deal. Course is always well maintained, but be aware of the recent weather. Being built on a swamp, the course doesn't drain as well as most other courses and is often cart path only. The gps units in the cart are great, but if its cart path only getting a distance can be challenging because most the distances have been scrubbed from the sprinkler heads. The layout is fairly simple and the multiple tee placements make it playable for almost every level. The course is well bunkered amd features a few forced carrys. 18 provides a chance at driving the green if you have the nerve to cut the dogleg through a small clearing in the woods. Fun layout overall. The greens are subtle and can be difficult to read, but roll very true. The fairways are always well defined and well manicured with no dead spots and in wonderful condition. The rough isnt very penalizing, but it can be fluffy and give you a flyer or two.Pace of play is usually pretty good. Ive never spent more than 3 1/2 hours on the course. If it hasnt rained in the last few days I highly recommend taking a trip to bear trail for the day.
very nice course
course is challenging but fair. Five Par 3's and 5 Par 5's enable you to score. Course has rangers and GPS which help keep pace moving. Enjoy the track very much
bombers course. also greens always quick ans smooth
Tees nice. Fairways good. Greens greats. Rough forgiving
Great course
Very nice course . Green in execellent condition.Gps in carts very heplful. Execellent staff.
GOOD COURSE
WILL BE COMING BACK. GREAT COURSE. CLOSE TO DRIVE.
Outstanding shape and always continues to improve course.
The course is in outstanding shape. Played the course as a single on Wednesday September 25, 2013 and the pace of play was great. Each and every year the course gets better and better due to the staff continually gaining more knowledge on how to maintain the golf course. The greens are faster than I have ever seen for this course and roll exceptionally smooth.
Stat of the art GPS system
Course is kept in great shape a great deal for money first class GPS on carts 4-5 stars ..be sure to watch weather before booking.... this course doesnt drain well and has a history of cartpath only or even closing..one suggestion is dont allow walking untill the afternoon...(results in slow play)
Finally a course with fast greens, loved it! A good challenge.
Loved it! Pace of play was excellent and GPS was helpful
We really enjoy this course!
This course is a good test, but also provides some opportunities even for the average golfer.
Great value for the money
Played yesterday for $10. Best $10 I ever spent on a round of golf. Headed back tomorrow with my son. Only negative is drive from Wilmington NC but well worth it.
