Bear Trail Golf Club

About
Bear Trail Golf Club opened in 2007, making it one of Onslow County's newest courses. The championship course offers many risk-reward opportunities that will appeal to low and high handicappers alike. You'll encounter many challenges including a variety of water hazards and strategically placed bunkers but the hazards are nicely balanced by wide, gently rolling fairways, which offer a little room for error. You'll still have to be careful though, since tall trees and rough line both sides of most of the fairways. The golf course is as scenic as it is challenging, with natural wetland areas connected by rustic wooden bridges. There are some tricky holes but overall the round is gentle enough for beginners to approach with confidence. In addition to the golf course, Bear Trail also has a driving range and putting green available for golfers to use.

Reviews
This course is fanomanole for the price
Great course it's challenging but still has a great set up to e able to succeed
Pick up the pace
I always enjoy this course. The fairways and greens were in great shape. Had to wait about 15 mins to get a cart as all of them were on the course at our tee time. The pace of play was slow because of groups ahead of us, which the rangers seemed to have no power to remedy.
Fairways and greens are in tip top shape. Worth the drive and money.
You will not find a better course for the money. It is very well maintained with a very friendly staff. The GPS in the carts works very well and a nice to have when trying to make an in-between club selection. I will continue to visit this course.
Despite the wet conditions the course was in great shape!
This course was in great condition. The greens were very tough to read the correct speed due to the fact they were soaked. The course offers some challenging holes followed by easy ones to keep your hopes up.
This course is fun but challenging!
Since the installation of the GPS in carts, play goes smooth and the marshals are very helpful with time and pace of play. The best golf course in the Onslow county area.
this is a great track, price is greatand the staff are the nicest people around
thanks for a great time it is sweet course in great cond
Great day of golf
Worried about the aeration but the greens were in good shape, moderate speed and rolled true. I was paired up with 2 other singles by Wayne, the starter who explained the nuances of the course. The fairways and boxes were in great shape and the (normally) marshy areas were all dry. The GPS installation since last year was a great idea and quite accurate. Overall, a great day.
Golf carts have GPS!
The best thing about this course is the GPS in the golf carts. Awesome feature, especially if its you first time playing this course. The course has a good design with good hazards. Unfortunately, the greens were just aerated and bumpy and sandy.
This course is a beauty...pristine and fun to play.
We had a great round at Bear Trail. It is wide open with trees that don't come into play. We give it an excellent rating for beauty and playability. We will definitely go back to Bear Trail.
Great course at a fair price.
Conditions were great and the fairways are very fair. Had a great time playing this course. Would recommend to anyone in the Topsail area.
Great course with friendly staff
Perfect experience; tee box, fairways, and greens well maintained, Golf carts equipped with GPS, and above all everyone seemed friendly. Will return soon.
Great Course, Better Price
This course is probably one of the best in Jacksonville. Very quiet location and with the help of the GolfNow app - the absolute best price for the money. The course at Bear Trail is picturesque at times, however playing on Tuesdays (Senior Day) did make for a slower pace of play than normal.
There are multiple starters on the greens at all times and always very friendly.
If you live in Jacksonville and even remotely like golf, you have to go to this course.
Great Course
I love playing at Bear Trail. The course was great and he staff was outstanding.
This course is a good value for the money.
You don't have to hit a perfect drive to hit the fairway. The staff was friendly. The course was well maintained. The greens putted true. Can't wait to take my brother, and beat him like a drum.
Outstanding value
This is a straight forward golf course with no mickey mouse holes. The fairways are wide open, and sand traps are in the right places. Putts rolled true on the greens which were of a moderate speed. The fairways were lush, and the rough was easily handled. I would highly recommend this course for anyone who is in the Jacksonville, NC area. The regular rates are reasonable, and the golfnow specials are a great deal.
A Hidden GEM of a Course
You must enjoy a ride through the country side of low land coastal North Carolina in order to make the trip out to Bear Trail; a trip well worth taking.
While recently visiting the island town of Topsail Beach, I was lucky to speak with a local citizen who raved about Bear Trail as his favorite course in the Jacksonville/ Wilmington area; and as a Golf Now member I made a reservation of the following day at a price that easily offset the cost of driving the 45 minutes through the country side. However, due to the tropical storm Andrea, we were rained out on the second hole. NO PROBLEM. The pro shop rescheduled us for two days later and the weather was prefect, as was the course conditions.
With five sets of tees there is plenty of choice to test the skills of all golfers. I particularly enjoyed the remote setting even though the course meanders through a newly developing residential area. I can foresee the course going private once development has reached its full potential.
Not a lot of elevation changes but a fair test of dog legs and forced carries over waste (environmental sensitive) areas; a.k.a. hazards. Wildlife abounds from many birds to fox and deer as well as a few reptiles. Truly a 'walk with nature' that is not spoiled, at least for now.
I had the great fortune to make acquaintance with several members who were generous in their hospitality as well as their sharing of course knowledge.
When you visit the Jacksonville / Wilmington area of coastal NC take time to savor this gem of a lovely golf property. You will be glad you made the effort.
Great experience
Great track. Course was well maintained and pace of play was excellent. Will play again
fun course
Bear Trail is a nice, clean course. There's not really any elevation change or spectacular scenery, but it's fun, and most of us don't need a difficult course to challenge our scores anyway.
Bear Trail Golf Course
First I want to thank Golfnow.com for an excellent deal. I first heard of Golfnow when I was down in Florida visiting my brother and uncle and we used it a number of times on different courses and had excellent deals...Even if you only play a few times a month, it is worth it..........
Bear Trail is a very good course and enjoyable. If you shoot in the 80's and higher, bring plenty of balls as there is lots of water and thick wooded areas. They usually have the best deal around my area, on Thursdays, it's $23.00 with cart but even better with golfnow. got to play for 13.00 with cart. You can't afford not to play at that price. The only thing I don't like about the course is that they are building a lot of homes around the course which takes the peacefulness out of the game and course but I still highly recommend it.
great always windy
had to play bavk nine twice cause airraiting the front nine then said next day there doin the back nine. so stupid considering the course and the greens look the best in years. nobody wants to play on punchsd greens now I wontgo back for months. looosin money. need to force fast player rules slow people think they own the course and wont let u play thru
