Course
The course has a nice layout. The past handful of months the crew has really upgraded the overall condition of the course. Thanks
Fun and challenging course
The course is fun and challenging. There have been improvements to the fairways, and the greens are usually in good condition. Overall a good time with quite a few birdie chances. The chipping and putting greens and driving range are all in good condition and a plus for practice. Definitely worth the cost.
Course has been getting better and better over the years. The greens are the fastest I have played in Raleigh so far this summer and are in amazing shape. They have been putting down lots of sod trying to help the fairways.
They Stole My Range Finder
Yes, you read the title right. A few weeks before this tee time I played Olde Liberty with some buddies in the morning and we were playing Paschal that afternoon. We were running a bit behind so we had to rush over to Paschal. When I got there Verne called me from Olde Liberty and said they had my Range Finder ($250 Bushnell). They said they would hold it for 3 weeks. I said awesome I’ll make a tee time for next weekend and come back to get it. I thanked them for holding it and the customer service made me want to play there again even though the course is in awful condition and it’s about a 35 minute drive from my house. Fast forward to Wednesday and I call them to say when I’d be there to play and get the range finder. They say, “awesome we have it here for you”. Saturday rolls around and I go to pick it up and play. Verne goes into the office and rummages around for a minute or 2 and comes back out saying they don’t have it?? He says it must have been stolen?! I remained calm and said I would play the front and see if they’ve found it after. I come back in after 9 and they only have 4 free passes to give me (worth about 200 bucks, not even the full value of the range finder, but basically worthless due to the condition of olde Liberty). I came back on April 12th and used all 4 passes for me, my spouse, and two of our friends so I never have to go back there again and play the course in the awful condition it’s in.
My arrakis. My dune.
This golf course is a piece of trash. The holes that do have “fairways” have grass that you can find in a backyard that is being kept up by a 5 years old. The bunkers are clay. Some fairways don’t even have grass on them, it looks like a cross between mars, tattoine and arrakis. The greens are inconsistent and bumpy. Do not play this course it is a waste of money.
Hidden Gem
I had a fantastic experience playing this course. The staff was fantastic and the layout was fun. The greens were speedy and challenging. I will definitely be back to play again when I am in the Raleigh area.
Not great and overpriced
Not great and overpriced. The course itself is in terrible condition. Great layout but for the price I’d go somewhere else
Unfortunately a very dilapidated track. Tee boxes and greens were decent but fairways, cart paths and upkeep were less than desirable
Love the course layout, challenging
The course is great, however, many fairways have incurred severe washout from recent storms and it doesn’t appear that they are working on repairing them. Bunkers and traps are a mess, no sand in the traps, just mud and stones, bunkers (if they were grass bunkers now have nothing but mud).
I will return again to see if they make the needed repairs as it is a long course (7200 yds from tips) as I am a long hitter.
Potential since 2019
This layout has so much character it would be a blast to play if it only had fairways and bunkers that are playable. I live in Wake Forest and we have a group of seniors who travel up to an hour and a half to play quality public courses 2-4 days/week. This course is the most convenient to our development but we don't play here. Our golf group of 50 with Tuesday and Thursday turnout of 12-24, weather permitting, play Heritage, River Ridge, The Neuse and Belmont Lakes regularly and conditions at those courses are nearly private club quality. If it was free, we wouldn't play this cow pasture because we're seniors and life is too short but we'll check the conditions every few years. See you in 2028 Olde Liberty!
BTW, I screwed up my Golf Now reservation and made it for Thursday when we were playing on Friday. I spoke to Don and he was professional, courteous and kind and fixed our reservation. Thank You Don! Don, if y'all happen to aerate and seed the fairways and grass starts appearing please let me know!
