A Gem in Tallahassee!
Found this wonderful Gem of a tract in Tallahassee while on vacation. Nice practice area, friendly staff and fantastic old school layout with huge trees, and lots of elevation changes! Course was in really good shape, greens were fast and smooth, bunkers had nice sand in them. A very enjoyable tract! Highly recommended!
Pro Shop/Practice
Looked forward to our round here. We had an 8:15 T-time. We arrived at 7:30 to hit a few balls, chip, and putt prior to our round. No one was at the course the carts were not out, the Pro shop was not open. No holes cut on the putting green or flags on chipping area. No restroom available. They did not show up and open until 8:00 A.M. We had to go off cold no warm-up. I have never played at a course in my life that was not open for warm-up prior to your round. No one seemed concerned in the least about it. This is supposed to be a Country Club. The beginning of our day left a sour taste and definitely tarnished what should have been a good day. I am not sure we will play here again unless we have a 12:00 ttime maybe they can get out of bed and provide a little customer service.
Historic course shines bright in Tallahassee
Capital City Country Club had never looked better. The course has always been revered locally for it’s thrilling A. W. Tillinghast layout, but now the course conditions are there to match the stunning natural beauty. Capital City has entered a new era and the public are encouraged to enjoy the club’s amazing golf course. Fans of classic golf architecture are in for a treat as the course’s routing conjures up exciting strategic golf played over a charming landscape of ancient hills and patriarch live oak trees. Don’t miss the opportunity to play Capital City and soak up the aura of Tallahassee’s most historic golf course.
Captial City now available to public play!
Capital City Country Club is now open to public play again and the course is in tremendous shape. The club has recently invested in lots of new equipment and the course conditions continue to peak. Superintendent David Moyer has brought this incredible Tillinghast layout to life like never before!
If you don't know much about CCCC, here are the most memorable aspects of the course.
1. The hills
The topography of a golf course can tell you a great deal about its architecture. Often a good golf adventure is a pursuit from high points to low points and vice versa. Capital City is home to some of the hilliest lands in all of Florida. When the course was first opened in 1914, it was given the moniker “Hill City Golf Course.” It most certainly lives up to that name. From the initial tee shot on the first hole it is apparent that the hills drive the discussion about the course. There is hardly a flat hole or an even lie on the grounds.
2. The trees
The trees at Capital City Country Club are unforgettable. Especially the live oaks. The patriarch oaks that tower over the fairways there shade the grounds like large umbrellas. Although an abundance of trees are typically not ideal for great golf, Capital City makes a distinct case for how to incorporate them into a design as vertical hazards.
3. The layout
Capital City is routed in two nine hole loops. The front nine starts in the center of the property and spirals out towards the edge. The back nine begins on the edge and winds back to the center. Each side has its own distinguishable characteristics that create memorable moments in the round and is a product of when it was built and who laid it out.(Back 9 by H.H. Barker 1914, Front 9 by Tillinghast 1936)
...
Capital City CC is a tremendous value with highly affordable greens fees for visitors seeking a unique and historical golf experience in Florida. Tom Doak rates CCCC as a 6/10 on his incredibly discerning rating scale. CCCC is the highest rated course by Doak in all of Northwest Florida! Do not miss out on an experience at Capital City Country Club!
Finally, the course is an incredible walk and I highly recommend seeing the layout on foot. Make sure to stop by Stone's bar in the clubhouse afterwords for tall tales about the history of the club and its members.

Tally Golf
Excellent day of golf. Beautiful rolling hills !
Wet, muddy, and cold
This is a nice course with a great layout as I have played it before. Heavy rainfall the night before had left the course with standing water and muddy conditions from even in the fairway. The cart paths (which are very sparse) are in dire need of repair. There was also a couple of greens that the sod patches are still trying to grow in. Overall, it really is one of the nicer courses in Tallahassee and for the hot deal price, you can't beat it. Just don't go after a recent rain as the course has poor drainage.
Fair golf course
I used to play here a lot growing up. I enjoyed the layout of the course, but it struggled to stay in good shape. The last time I played the greens were in a little better shape ,but still not the best. It's very playable for all levels of skill.
Greens are in superb conditions! A+++
The course is in just fantastic shape! The greens are beautiful and are some of the best conditions for greens that I have ever seen. Course was wet because of the 5+ inches of rain over the past day, but it really wasn't too bad (cart path only).
Fairways are in great condition as is the rest of the course. Tee boxes could use some TLC, but everything else is amazing. IF you have not played here, get out and do it! You will not be disappointed.
I saw probably 5 or 6 different hawks on the course. Twice they were just resting right on top of the flag stick!
I got a chicken sandwich at the bar and grill and it really hit the spot!
Highly recommended
If you are playing golf in Tallahassee, you should take advantage of this great course in downtown. The course has its challenges but it is a very fun course to play. Aside from the gorgeous scenery and manicured landscape, the fairways are soft and the greens are fast and well maintained. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. If I had to choose one word to describe this club, it would be "classy".
Excellent staff & course
the staff was very welcoming & the course design is excellent. Lots of hills which require adjustments for club choice. Greens are in good condition but currently playing at very slow pace, perhaps only 7-8? Perhaps due to summer heat they are keeping them longer, wetter, not rolled?
Still really excellent design & playable.
Looking forward to more rounds here!
Great In-Town Course
This course is always a lot of fun. It has many rolling hills and some very elevated greens which can be a challenge. The course is always in good condition though they need to work on repairing the cart paths in some parts of the course.
Great course with real elevation for this area
Great course has some good elevation for this area in great shape very well kept. My only complaint would be I had to play the back 9 twice due to them working on the front but still a awesome day.
Tillinhast live in North Florida
Classic courses are always my favorite. I'm just biased. Courses built before golf carts. Courses built for golf, not selling houses. Capital City Counry Club is one of those courese. The course is compact, strategic, and straight forward. Everything you would expect a classic track to be.
Capital City Country Club is an 18 hole layout designed by A.W.Tillinghast in the 1930's as part of a publicly fundied WPA project. The club is right Downtown and the State Capitol is visible from a few holes. The course has amazing hills that shape the holes. Large hills like this are very rare in Florida. To have a Tillinghast layout over such hills is unheard of if Florida. Capital City is a truly unique course.
Earlier this year, Integrity Golf assumed management duties of the club and grounds. Since their taking over, the course condition has reached its best ever. The integirty team has brought the course to its best shape in over a few decades. They are bringing the life back to a classic course that was in need of some help.
Players will find an extremely friendly staff, amenities in the middle of being updated, and a club feel that you cannot get in many places. The course is very playable, but has many challenges in store. Hit it straight and manage to putt some of the tricky greens and you can post a nice score. You will feel like you are playing a classic north east course. Observe the unique qualities of Capital City Country Club and appreciate this great A.W. Tillinghast layout.
The pro shop has some great items for purchase. The Champions grill has great and affordable food. The overall price point for a day at Capital City is very much a deal. Great course, great staff, Great add ons, and a great place to go play some golf.
I highly recomend a day at Capital City Country Club to any player looking for a unique golf course in North Florida. Fans of classic courses and golf history will love this place.
Best I've ever seen it, and a great deal
Have never seen this course so good since I've lived here. Weather was perfect, so was the course. Staff was also friendly. Highly recommend.
Worse golf experience in Tallahassee
Started out good, course is interesting with a lot of good elevation changes and tough holes. Get completely stormed on at the 9th hole which causes us to seek shelter for he next 35-45 minutes of constant storm. Go to ask the golf shop for a rain check and the guy mocks me with som " you don't want to play in the rain" comment... Long story short dude walkouts jt give me a rainccheck on 3 people just starting the tenth.. Never will I go there again with such arrogance coming from such a run down 3 rate looking/acting place.
