A Course in horrid shape - residents ruin pace

This course is in terrible shape, especially during a time when most courses are looking their very best of the season. The tee boxes are destroyed, the fairways are covered in growth, every surface is hard as stone. The course is very hilly and there are drainage covers sunk into the bottom of deep craters all over the fairways; the course is so hard, balls that land 15+ yards from a cover will roll back and into them.

That’s just the course...every resident seems to have a cart and they just jump on the course and play a hole. Not single residents, but foursomes that patrol the cart paths looking for some space to squeeze between registered golfers with tee times.

Additionally, we saw someone with the refreshment cart once the entire 18 and that was on the first whole.

I can’t see trying this place again for a few years...it would take two seasons just to repair the neglected turf.

Good greens, tight lies in fairways

greens were good but fairways have not grown in yet, leaving tight lies. Will try to get back here soon.

Best public course in the Charlotte area

This is the best value for a public golf course in the Charlotte area; particularly for the weekday afternoon rate. Amazing layout that requires shotmaking and strategy.

Very disappointed

For $80, this course was not in good shape. The greens were not well manicured and putting was a challenge. Even though early in the season I have played other courses that charge half as much that were in much better condition.

The most disappointing was the ranger. We finished 18 in 4 hours and 12 minutes as a 4-some. At the turn we grabbed a hot dog and beer at the shack by the 10th tee - along with many others. After teeing off, the ranger approached and told us we needed to speed up - at this point we had finished 9 in right at 2 hours. We never once, through 18 holes, had anybody pushing us from behind and several times actually had to wait on the group in front of us to clear the green.

Don’t sell food at the turn if you don’t want play to slow somewhat. Better yet, make sure you fully know what you are talking about when you tell a group to speed up. This was very frustrating and honestly made the rest of the round less enjoyable.

I won’t be back to Carolina Lakes.

Will try again, but .....

Conditions were not very good. Lots of rain recently may be part of excuse, but the tee boxes were poor, sand traps were very hard, and fairways and overall grass was worse than just wet. Also the greens had just been punched and sanded and there was no indication of this when booking.

I will be back.

Finally got a chance to play Carolina Lakes. Great layout with elevation changes made for a fun round.. On par with Cobblestone golf course in Blythewood.

Great layout.

Fun course, no one in front or behind me. They still use motor powered golf carts... Mind blown. Cool karts.

Decent course

Staff is friendly for sure, which is the best part of this course. Course is good, but unfortunately it was rough due to the rain from two days ago. It needs better drainage. I’m not a fan of playing next to houses, but it wasn’t too bad thanks to the fact that it has enough vegetation. Overall pretty good but you do feel you’re playing at a retirement community and not in nature.

Over priced

Not worth the money. The fairways need to be over seeded with rye. The Bermuda is bare and dead. Even in the summer rough shape. If you charge that much you need a hybrid turf.

Terrible conditions

Love this golf course normally but I’d wait at least a couple weeks to play it. I know we’re pre spring but conditions were awful all around. Particularly for $80.

Great shape and dry

Played Eagle Chase as they always have very firm greens and handle wet conditions well. Yet again they did not disappoint. The greens were firm and no bare spots on them. The fairways were dry and had a spot or two that were bare. Grass is still dormant but compared to other Charlotte courses the conditions are amazing. Go play it and it’s always worth the drive.
