Disappointing
Good layout, poor conditions, greens slow, fairways not watered and weeds everywhere. General upkeep is poor. Bunkers un-raked and liners coming through to the top. Not sure what is going on here!! Won't be back for at least 2 years to see if conditions improve....
What A Joke
$50.00 for what course is okay condition pace of play was okay however the range was closed so we couldn’t hit any golf balls before our round, not included they may want to update there staff to match the forever changing demographics of golf! Perhaps that’s why the rating is so low! Save your money and play Edgewater, for half the money and better conditions and better staff
No Brakes
Overall it was an nice course to play. I won’t pay another $50+ to play here again. I will have to find a deal to play there again. Also my brakes went out on my golf cart. I only had a few holes left so i just managed. Only would recommend to a friend just because of how close it is to my home.
Update website photos
The course looked beautiful online that's why I drove an hour to come play it. For over 50 dollars I expected much more. The lay out is good, but the greens were horrid. Way too slow. The bunkers aren't racked so your ball either plugs because there's way too much sand in them. Or it finds its way in a foot print. Probably wouldn't come back for sometime.
Almost Great
If they made the bunkers playable, the course would rate 5 stars but some of the traps were in such disarray, I wouldn't even bother raking them!
One of the Better Charlotte Area Courses
This is definitely in the top tier of Charlotte public courses. Conditions were near perfect with greens rolling very well. The layout is interesting with lots of elevation changes, but you will likely not have any flat shots. At $59, it's a little pricey, but the GPS carts are a nice added feature to help you navigate the course. Highly recommend, especially if you can get a hot deal or twilight round in.
OVERALL: 7.8/10
Great Value!
Go play here. Period. Best course I have played in Charlotte Area. Do not play here if you have a 25+ handicap. Not for you with the difficulty of the course!
Greens in great shape!
The driving range is average or below.
Carolina Lakes Golf Club
This was my first visit to Carolina Lakes, and I will most definitely be back. The cold Spring and resulting winter kill have affected just about every course in the Charlotte area this year, but Carolina Lakes was in phenomenal shape. Greens were excellent, as were the fairways. An occasional tee box had some thin spots, but those were few and far between. Each of the numerous bunkers on the course were well maintained and had plenty of soft white sand in them. Every sprinkler head had yardages on them and there were markers in the fairways and on cart paths. The cart paths are also well maintained.
The layout of the course is outstanding as well. The course is inside of the Sun City retirement community, and winds it way through it. There is a mix of short and long holes, straight holes and doglegs. You will hit clubs other than driver off of several tees and that helps to provide great variety to the course. The four par 3's all demand carries over water or natural areas. There is a good bit of elevation change, particularly on the back nine. Perhaps the signature hole is #9, a dogleg right par 4 that features 7 bunkers that the tee shot must be threaded through. This is not a course that you can walk, as there are a few lengthy rides between holes.
The fleet of carts is new and full of features, including the best GPS system I've ever seen in a cart. The GPS touch screen gives you a flyover of each hole, in addition to the distances to the front, back, and that day's hole location.
I did not go into the clubhouse, but those amenities seem top class as well. Staff was pleasant and helpful. Pace of play was great. Our twosome got around in less than 3.5 hours on the Friday afternoon of a holiday weekend.
As I mentioned above, Carolina Lakes is in about the best shape of any course in the Charlotte area currently. The conditions and layout make this one a must play for anyone.
Nice track, junk staff
The course is nice. The staff, not so much and they don't care. Had issues with the head pro and rangers. The assistant pro is the only one that really knows customer service. Go play Springfield. It's really nice too and the staff is friendly. Sun City has to know they have issues with this staff by now.
not a friendly place
not a friendly place and it was over priced. not worth the hour drive to play this course. I had much rather drive an extra 30 minutes to Edgewater
Greens are like a mind field
This was one of best courses in Carolinas up until this year. Well maintained, great par 3's challenging, even a bit difficult at times. However the last two times I have played the greens had so many ball marks it was like putting through a mind field. This is supposed be high end course $69 and you expect good conditions. When I tell you these had to be the worse greens I have ever seen... Not a few ball marks hundreds - I asked the ranger and he said it was due to tournaments; I questioned him on that; it is retirement community and they must not want to bend over to repair marks. One hole I counted 400 Ball marks disgraceful will never go back until they do something about. You literally cannot putt FULL STOP!! The greens keeper should be ashamed!!
Dog Track
Worst Greens within 100 miles of Charlotte. The greens had been punched two weeks earlier, but that was not the problem. Some fungus had kill a lot of spots on the greens. The fairways had large clumps of dead mowed grass in them that stopped your ball from getting any role.
No starters to regulate tee times on a busy week-end. In fact we saw no rangers or staff till 16. Then he was rude a like many old men that ranger acted like we were bugging him by being on his course.
No problem. It will be a long time before they get any more money of mine
Best Public Course in Charlotte
This is the best public course Charlotte has to offer seroius golfers. After being here two years, it is shocking to find the lack of above-average courses in area.
Bent grass greens (taking a beating due to the heat at this point) usually roll very nicely. Good mix of holes with risk-reward situations and birdie opportunities. At $59, it's far superior to lesser tracks that as $68-70. You'll hit every club off the tee.
Downsides are the less-than-friendly clubhouse staff and poor selection of items in the snack bar/beverage cart. The two-tee system they use on weekend mornings, has been disconcerting as it appears that the starter has little idea how to incorporate those groups that start on #10.
All in all, you won't find many better than you can play in the Charlotte area, so book your time.
Poor Value
The golf course isn't anything special. It's no more than average. The fairways were in good condition for the most part but the greens were in poor condition. There were a lot of dead patches on the greens and they were very inconsistent. Pace of play: Took us 5 hours to play 18. We usually average 3.5 hours/round. This may be an isolated incident as I've only payed this course once, however it was pretty slow on this particular day.
The biggest take away was that this round cost us $75/player which I feel could have been better spent at a different course to get a better experience. Value for your money, in my opinion, was very low.
way to hard for weekenders and seniors
this course is way to hard for the weekender or average golfer.located in a seniors only neighborhood plays like Augusta.A joke.you want to walk off this course after 8 holes!!! hit it down the middle roll into the woods or some sand trap in the middle of the landing area.that or the fairway rolls your shot down the middle into the trees.water in the middle of 2 holes back to back??? one a par 5 one a par 4.a joke.to much sand and water.fairways are to tight.just no fun!!! clubhouse people can care less.if you are there or not??? no play because it is to hard for older players.and weekenders.PLEASE REMODEL YOUR COURSE!!! make it fun!!! not a death trap!!! greens stink!! they are hugh and roll real bumpy everytime I have played it.just no fun at all.a KILLER!!! makes you want to quit.when we need more golfers not less!!!
How about the green and ball marks?
