Great fun! Where’s the food and beverages???
Tilden Park GC was and still is a very fine golf challenge. Fabulous setting, lots of history and a Great hike if you’re up to it. Mid June ‘20 the greens were pretty firm and quite fast. Decent overall conditions. Providing Golf course amenities during COVID-19 protocol proves challenging for many golf course operators. But at least some courses make the attempt. No such effort here. The bar and grill And Patio area was closed. One of the best natural setting set-ups for COVID era safe food and beverage service and... nothing. You get the impression management, assuming there is one, finds hospitality an unnecessary hassle. Too bad. Bring you own food and water and expect a great golf course experience in spite of the cold shoulder...
The course was in good. Shape
The course was in good shape but it seem like It was overwatered in some places and the greens were really slow.
know it's not Tilden's fault
We had a great time. The course was in good shape although the rough was pretty high and out of control. The pace of play was fine. We would have had lunch and a beverage after the round but the food/beverage facilities were closed. Tilden is doing the best it can despite the coronavirus restrictions.
First time and a little rainy
Eventhough it was raining on and off.... the course was in good shape and drained well.
First rainy weekend in two months!
It was wet, but (surprisingly) not very sloppy. Our first time playing this course and it was forecasted for 50% chance of rain. We were lucky and we only had occasional sprinkle or two. All but two tee boxes were in good order. The fairways were well kept. The greens were recently punched, but they rolled pretty good (just lots of sand). Cart path only... of course with the recent rain. Even with that, we didn't need to walk miles to our balls. Looking forward to revisiting when the course is drier and faster! Would recommend.
they should tell you......
I think either Golfnow.com or the proshop has the obligation to tell you when you book a tee time whether or not the greens have just been punched. This was the case today during my round. The greens were apparently punched a week ago. Neither the proshop, nor the starter said anything when they put me on the first tee box. Found out as soon as i got to the first green. It progressively got worse as some of the greens are not only punched but also muddy and diseased. The greens look like The superintendent should be fired. How can a golf course be so wet when we haven't had rain for over a month????
Tilden Review
The course is challenging and I love the tournament style layout. However the greens and tee boxes where in terrible shape. And it seemed like they books two-three groups for the same tee time. Overall it was a “meh” experience. We played at a discounted rate and it was still not worth the money. Don’t think I’ll be back again any time soon.
This course continues to grow on me
Back in my high handicapper days I did'n really like this course. It has 3 200 yard or so par 3's and that just tough on the high handicapper. But now I'm at least a little bit better and this course is definitely growing on me. I will say that I benefited from the winter bing pretty dry here and that kep me out of sloppy conditions today (the course can get pretty wet in the winter). Anyway for me a test is "how many holes from the course would I put in an custom 18 holes of East Bay golf holes"? I'd say there are many candidates from Tilden for such a collection of holes. I prefer the front nine or maybe the first 12 holes. The last 6 hols tend to go back and forth parallel to each other, but those first 12 are pretty nice. If you can play this course when it's not wet, you should...
Disappointing...worst golfing experience I've had in years!
I have 5 issues with Tilden Golf Course:
1. There are 2 entrance roads. The one my gps brought me to was blocked by 4 pickup trucks with a road closed sign and not a soul in sight. It took me 20 minutes to find the other entrance.
2. The greens were just sanded.....no notification of this when i booked online.
3. The back 9 were closed...again, no notification of this when i booked online.
4. The rough is so high that often you lose your ball even though you know where it landed.
5. There is no drinking water on the course except at the club house
Worst Course in the Bay Area!
Decided to give Tilden another opportunity after 5 months. Same horrible or even worse conditions. So I never received word the front nine was closed due to Aerating the front nine. The guy in the pro shop was arrogant and rude! Decided to play the back nine si ve I was already out there. Tee boxes had driving range mats, fairways in decent shape, but Amazed or how horrible the greens are, no one fixes divots, so you can never get a straight putt!! Horrible horrible course! Who ever loves the sport, STAY AWAY!
Great local course, love to play it
I have played this course off and on for years. Despite its short length, it still provides a decent challenge Only drawback today was several temporary tee boxes. Hope that is changed soon.
Awesome Course bad directions
Awesome Course bad directions
This was my first time on the course and my partner dropped the scorecard and we were practically lost. There was no signs at majority of the holes you couldn’t tell the number of the hole or where the next hole was. They need more direction signs.
Great course. Needs marshall!
Love the outdoors. Deer, turkeys, redwoods etc. unfortunately I rarely ever see a Marshall. Today we got stuck behind a foursome and it took 5 hours to play! These guys teed off around 7:15 and held everyone up after. Wish someone would regulate.
Good Value
Course was extremely wet and muddy, would love to play it over the summer months. 3 tee boxes were under repair and requires the player to hit off of a driving range mat. Besides the mud, the course is in decent shape and is great value for the money. Very beautiful setting, will return over the summer when the course is a bit drier!
