Golfer Reviews
Needs lot of work
The course is very bad shape and needs a lot of work.
First time at Shandin Hills
Fairways need watering big-time...lots of brown, dry dirt areas. Sand traps are horribly hard as a rock! Course layout is good. Greens are average. The staff are super friendly, courteous, with great customer service. Food cart goes to course once in morning. Range and club house are fair. Great deal for the cost of $11 (18-hole with cart) on Friday noon.
$26-Play&Eat
Shandin may not be in perfect condition, but for this price, you will have a great time. Eat, warm up,and play all for $26??? This is a fantastic value. Play lift, clean and place & decide for yourself what should be ground under repair,, and you'll have a great time. The greens are in nice shape, and the staff at the pro shop and snack bar were awesome. It was 105* and we still got an extra seven holes in. We brought plenty of water, and parked in the shade every chance we could. This is a weekday special, so take a day off, get here for a breakfast burrito, warm up on the range, play the front nine, stop for a sandwich, play the back nine, then play some extra holes....all for $26!!! Oh, and bring your fade. Hookers will have a difficult time at Shandin Hills.
So many traps
1st time out at Shandin Hills even though I have driven by it to many times to count. Really liked the overall course layout. Couple elevation changes on the front, not crazy but interesting. I read on some other reviews that there are a lot of bunkers, and it is no exaggeration. The amount is crazy, and either they are perfectly placed or my balls had homing sensors that found them, a lot of them. But the sand in them is so nice. Better than courses that cost 2 times the green fees of this place. Overall good day, hit the concession stand at the turn and grabbed a snack. Finished the back with a beverage cart stop. Got in all 18 even with the break in about 4.5, not terrible. Grass was getting trimmed on a couple holes but want in the way at all, really nice grounds crew.
Pace was really slow
Did not think this was worth the money. Fairways were poor and pace made for a nearly six hour day for 18 holes.
Shandin Hills Golf Club
A last minute choice to play on a Friday afternoon new golf carts was a nice addition and like always the greens were amazing and quick , the only negative like most courses out in the IE the fairways are hard and grass is on the lean side , when the fairways come back in it will be one of the better courses for the money not as crammed as most courses on weekends . Excellent greens and plenty of bunkers will keep you on your toes.
Really good shape
Course is in really good shape and the greens are fast. Great day of golf.
challenging but still funn
This course is pretty challenging, yet fun. However, a bit too many sand traps for my taste. Although, I managed to stay away from them in this round. The greens are in pretty good shape for this time of year. At first glance the green fees are reasonable, but when compared to another course in the area that is considered to be better, they are not. This other course is way better, yet the green fees are the same, and some times even less. Therefore, this course should consider lowering their rates.
Green are in great condition Fairway suck no grass!
This are the best greens I've played this year, extremely fast! I had more 3 and putts than I had 2 or 1 puts. The fairway didn't have any grass on them that was green, hit off dirt, then if I wanted to move the ball it could have been 10 to 20 feet to find grass. Hope the grass grows in but you going to have to overseed for that to happen.. You have a great layout why not invest in a return play, I wouldn't go back because of the fairways.
Also, need to update directions If I didn't have the phone to the shop I would have never got there..
Oh My Wind
Love the course. Had to skip a couple of holes. The wind was fantastic. Probably why the play was slow.
Drought Problems
First off greens were in very good shape and fast, but drought has cost the grass in the fairways to become very sparse and even worse around several greens you are chipping and pitching off pure dirt (chili dip time). Sand traps on most holes were just plain mud. Playing time was good and we may of had a better time if we played lift clean and find some grass to place your ball on, but we were not thinking of that at the time....If you play here some kind of a scramble would be ok, but playing your own ball down plan on being over your handicap.
a good driving course.
Greens are in great shape but fairways are a little bumpy.Ietting five people play in a group can be very slow to follow. But overall good for the price.
Basically dirt
This course has really gone downhill. The fairways are mostly dirt with dirt mounds everywhere. This was never a 5 star course but it was usually OK. The greens are fine so if you want to practice your game off bare lies this is it. Otherwise go elsewhere
weekend getaway
with the weather just right, golf at shandin hills was a great sat getaway from house work. Playing golf with my wife is a fun way to spend a sat afternoon.
Interesting course
The greens on the course are great. The fairways are not great. They are hard and yellow. I was given a cart with low battery and it died on me multiple times and took a long time to get a new one.
Great golf value for the money
Playing on a holiday, the course was packed but we were pleasantly surprised by the decent pace of play. Two of us were paired up with another twosome; we almost never had to wait for the foursomes in front and the foursomes behind almost never had to wait for us.
Greens held very well and are in excellent shape for putting. The sand in the bunkers is also in good shape. Except for the dead centerline , however, the fairways and rough are not smooth. The cart ride was kidney jarring most of the day.
Between the personnel, the greens, the company we were paired with, the fair price and the good pace of play this was a very enjoyable round of golf.
Awesome comment! Much appreciated!
