I like the course but...
I really like the course but the condition of the course really needs work. The greens are the worst I've seen, The sand is so hard I would'nt even call it sand and the course is filled with mud and dead spots everywhere. I really think it has a lot of potential but I imagine it would cost a lot which seems to dictate how courses look which is understandable.
A Disappointing Experience at Shandin Hills Golf Club
I recently played a round of golf at Shandin Hills Golf Club, a city-owned course that once held promise but now seems to be neglected. Unfortunately, the experience left me disappointed and frustrated, as the course’s management appears to be running it into the ground, possibly to benefit their other golf interest across town, Arrowhead Country Club.
When we arrived, we were shocked by the condition of the greens. The photos above give a glimpse of what we encountered: patchy, diseased, and poorly maintained surfaces that made putting a nightmare. The greens were riddled with bare spots, dead grass patches, and an uneven texture that no golfer should have to endure. It’s clear that little to no effort has been made to keep these greens playable.
On a previous occasion our group had booked an event at Shandin Hills well in advance, yet the management seemed to go out of their way to encourage us to switch our event to Arrowhead Country Club. It felt like a push to steer golfers away from Shandin Hills and over to their other property. This tactic seemed unethical—especially since we had already committed to playing here.
It’s disappointing to see a public course, which should be maintained for the enjoyment of the entire community, apparently treated as an afterthought. The neglect at Shandin Hills is apparent, and it’s a shame that the management is prioritizing their private interests over the upkeep of this city-owned property.
Until significant improvements are made, I would recommend avoiding Shandin Hills and taking your game to a course that values its patrons and maintains its facilities responsibly.
Greens
This should be the time crab grasses uprooted so most of the greens be back to normal once the regular grasses recover. The fairways are not bad, it’s a good place to judge and evaluate your driving accuracy. The time slot for hot deals allow completion of round with plenty of time
No frills golf
Course was in so so shape, not too bad and not too good. Greens could use some help but not too bad, fairways were manageable. This is a mature course, lots of trees and wide fairways. Fun course to play. Staff is friendly but sparse. BYOB on weekdays.
Terrible Greens
The amount they charge at this course compare to the nearby courses this one is not work the money. If I was paying $20 bucks then I could understand, but the greens have patches of sand, dead/dried spots, and WEEDs. Felt like I was putting in a sandbox. If invest money into the fairways and greens then you would have a nice course, but never going back.
Poor greens and fairw
The course is in very poor condition. The greens are currently terrible, lots of divots. The grass looks like it hasn’t been mowed in weeks. I was there a year ago and the course was in way better condition. Hopefully they can fix it. Definitely not worth a $64
Fire the Winns
Shandin Hills condition is because of two individuals Ferial and Mike Winn. They need to be removed from management of Shandin Hills.
The greens have weeds because the Winns took Louis the head grounds keeper to Arrowhead. These two individuals also took Shandin Hills golf equipment. They fired a man Dominic for speaking up.
The clubhouse is falling down and could injure or kill incident people visiting this course if a earth quake was to occur. See attached photos of the structure. The upstairs has already been tagged and shut down yet the building is open . The new GM Derek needs to be able to take over and do what needs to be done but his hands are tied by the Winns.
It's obvious Shandin Hills is a money grab for the Winns. The bugs are terrible you could get west nile but they care not to do aerial spraying. They don't care about the public or the golf course just collecting a check.

Greens
I’ve played Shandin Hills for many years (even during aerification). The greens were not in great shape and made play difficult. The staff is always great and the pace of play was good.
Greens were bad
If the greens are in bad condition the price needs to be WAY cheaper.
Poor course management
We couldn’t believe the conditions of all of the greens!!
And to make it worse is that they charged us full price for that garbage I’m sorry but I’m not going back there anytime soon!!
What happen to the greens???
The course let the greens die and they are terrible. It will take at least 6 months before the greens are acceptable. There is sand on almost every green, weeds, and they are nearly impossible to make a putt from over three feet.
