Picture perfect day at Spanos Photo submitted by Tem23powtfgj on 07/06/2013
worth the drive
what a great layout for all kinds of golfer. it can be stretched to 7000 yards down to4500 yards.
great shape , play it down no bad lies.
Great Day
Tee’d off at 2:15 and enjoyed every minute. Not over crowded at all which makes it very enjoyable and more relaxing.
Great Course
Course is always well kept. If you don't like the wind, and who does, then pay more to play in the morning. Undulated fairways keeps you thinking, the greens were in great shape.
Give newly aerated greens a couple more weeks
Green were micro punched so they still rolled fairly well. Give it another couple of weeks and they should be in great shape.
The greens were kinda rough.
Overall it’s a well kept course and I will play it again.
Great Course
nice place.. good people.. will be golfing there again
Very good course
I always enjoy playing The Reserve at Spanos. The price is fair for seniors and the course generally is in good shape. Wind can be challening some of the time.
Great day
First time playing the Reserve in sometime. The course over all was in great condition. The only minor thing was the bunkers could use some more sand and nobody seems to use a rake. . Looking forward to coming back soon.
Aerated without prior notice
I want to like this course, I had expectations when I drive nearly 2 hours out there with my buddy.
One pro shop staff checked us in. I returned back to the pro shop to ask where the first tee is and the other staff told me that I haven't checked in. And of course, I "had" to recheck in, agian. Even though it was prepaid through GOLFNOW. It didn't feel welcoming, going through the second time. Then I had to go back the third time. As even though I've checked in twice, I didn't know the pro shop had to issue a cart key before I can take a golf cart. When I ask if whether it is a 1 cart per person or share cart scenario, I was told I had to share the cart. But, when I walk to the first tee, there was a 5some in front of us and everyone nhad their own cart. So I walk back to the proshop to make sure the 5some was real, since we had paired up with another 2some. The pro shop Sid, oh, your other 2some took off already, and yes, there is a 5some in front of you. Hmmm, they sent think it was courteous to tell us the pairing left before our tee time, as we were waiting for 40 minutes like a law abiding citizen and had to find out by go into the proahip the 4th time and found out 2 of us will stuck behind a 5some, which the proshop doesn't bother to tell us.
We ran to the tee box and the 5 gentlemen were nice enough to let us tee off first even though 3 our 5 of them already tee off.
There is no clear sign to the first tee or second hole.
Of course we found out eight in the first hole that the green were aerated and sanded. We called GOLFNOW, since I am pretty much given up on the proshop staff. The feedback GOLNOW gotten was that the peoahop said, "no one complained to them." And "yeah, we aerates a week ago". So anyone whom wants to play this course. Make sure you have a check list of questions prepare to ask this workshop and confirm everything, as we all know GOLNOW do not give your money back.
Course layout is OK, you can see everything in front of you. Bunker are strategically places and when we were not carful, we end up in them a couple of times. Few water holes made this course interesting and cooler, as this course is situated in a flat valley and it gets hot compare to other regions. I'll say it it easily 10 degrees warmers than elsewhere. Even it is layout in a flat valley, the fairway is undulated, so your second shot and third cannot be taken for granted. More severe undulations around the green and the undulated green are well protected by bunkers and waters. The bunkers are OK, the sun baked them into a crisp on the top, although soft underneath. There are quite a few "wasted area", we thought they were bunkers, but, as it turns out, they were just dry mud and the ball will bounce and run forever if you landed inside of them. Some of them looks like they are under construction, since hole and drains were clearly digged. But, no making, no painting on the ground. And of course the proshop didn't inform us about them.
Even though the greens were aerated, they were still fast. I can imagine how fast they can be when they are fully healed.
This is can be a nice course. With better staff, management, and better signs and postings, players who come will enjoy a lot more.
Great Course
The Reserve is always a pleasure to play. The high winds were a challenge, and the greens had just been pin-punched, but other than that the course was excellent. Had a great day. Highly recommended!
