Lionhead Golf and Country Club - Legends
About
The Legends Course at Lionhead Golf & Country Club has been ranked before as one of the toughest golf courses in North America and the club boasts that it is the toughest in Canada. Lionhead Golf & Country Club also offers another, less demanding 18-hole course that is equally entertaining, the Masters. Legends features numerous challenges including vast lakes, cavernous sand bunkers, and tall fescue. The layout winds through a rugged portion of the Credit River Valley with steeply rolling terrain and wooded ravines, providing the golf course with elevated, undulating greens. The eighth is a notable hole, both for its beautiful scenery and its difficulty level. It is a long par 3 over a pond filled with tall bulrushes.

Decent Design. Embarrassing execution
Over $100 (including GolfNOW discount) yet still have the nerve to charge another $15 for a bucket of range balls to warm up on poorly maintained decks with minimal targets. Embarrassing.
Once on the course, expect a 5hr round hitting to greens riddled with pitch marks.
Interesting, challenging design, but I think the layout actually takes the driver out of your hands too often to be honest as numerous holes force irons/hybrids off the tee followed by mid/long irons into shallow (and bumpy) greens. A shame really as the course is cut through beautiful towering trees and rivers.
Great location, but you can find much better value elsewhere.
disappointed
The price is way too high considering the condition of the course. The greens were extremely rough.
Breakfast was good but the selection of the snacks on the cart was minimal. Most courses I have played, I can usually get sandwich selections on the cart.
Legends
Legends is in fairly good shape considering the winter we just experienced - many courses received major damage - Our group was not slow, but for some reason we were followed by the Marshall hole by hole for almost the whole round - my focus became more on that than my round of golf, which made it a little on the uncomfortable side
not enough
A course that charges rates north of $100.00 should offer GPS on their carts with hole distance to hazard details. If you are not a regular at the Legends course it is very difficult to figure out where to pace your tee shot as many holes have blind landing areas, and scopes don't always help.
Great course
Unbelievable course...challenging yet fun!
Would recommend for any level of golfer
The Legends has become a Myth!!
I remember this course being one of the better courses in the GTA... NOT ANY MORE! The maintenance of the course isn't what it used to be. Most of the greens are in terrible condition with "pot holes" and "speed bumps." Ball marks are not repaired there is obvious damage as a result.
The pace of the game was very slow and I didn't see a marshal til the 17th hole. It took over 5 hours to play the round.
If the management doesn't respect the course, how can they expect the golfers to do so.
Lionhead early
If you are familiar with the 2 courses here then you will know that the legends is the better of the 2.
The masters I played last week and there was a lot of winter damage.
So of the 2 ...the legend is the better choice as long as you can get it for less than $75 ....and that is only a retired guys opinion.
The Legends Course Roared
Great day to play. Weather was perfect and the GolfNow Hot deal was terrific. The usual price for the course was discounted by adding a small range ball bucket, choice of burger or hot dog, soda and chips.
The Legends Course was very challenging as the winds picked up and the yardage was a guessing game. A lot of the hazards came into play. If you don't have a rangefinder or GPS, on-course yardages become a challenge.
The course was very well-maintained and did not suffer the very prolonged winter the area courses suffered.
Great Deal
Booked on Golfnow and lunch and a bucket of balls (for the range) was included at a great price.
Overall course condition was very good except for the greens which have seen a lot of damage from the severe winter we had.
I showed up an hour and a half early and they very kindly met my request to go out at an earlier time.
Overall a great experience and would highly recommend to anyone.
Spectacular Valley Course
Wonderful scenery mitigates the course difficulty. This is a great design which results in target golf which in this case really works. You pay for your errant shots, but the course while very difficult is very fair. I would love to play it again!
THE COURES PLAYED WHILE
GREENS WHERE STILL WINTER LOGDED OTHER GOLFERS ARE NOT FIXING DIVITS ON THE GREENS ALL IN ALL IT WAS A GOOD DAY
lionhead/ legends
It is a great golf course and the staff are very friendly. I would play there again anytime and I'm sure I will.
Fun (yet challenging round) at Legends Lionhead
Played 18 holes at Legends for the first time. I have played at Masters a few times now and I have to say Legends is singificantly more difficult from the tips. Not a big fan of the layout but overall the round was fun.
The only thing that I could pick on is the quality and availibility of the on course food & beverage cart. We started our round at 7:00 am and didnt see anyone until 10:45 (on the 18th hole). No real food was on the cart, only chocolate bars and chips.
You just might use all fourteen
A bit of a target type course where knowledge of the layout and accuracy off the tee payoff more than a "grip it and rip it" approach. A number of greens (say four) are suffering from winter burn to the extent it interferes significantly with play. So, getting a good roll on some putts is a bit of a challenge. They've lost 300+ trees due to storm damage since last season, and if you've played the Legends you'll notice the change on #1.
Extremely poor customer service
Had to cancel a tee time short notice because a friend had a baby the night before. The pro shop told us that we were lucky he was in a good mood because he should be charging us the full amount for late cancellation.
I play this course often as well as other kaneff courses such as Royal Ontario and Royal Niagara. Never again.
Early golf after a hard winter....still a great time
Lionhead is in my own opinion one of the best bangs for your buck as far as semi GTA golf goes. The greens were a bit damaged still from the harsh winter, which they were taking the steps to repair and i am sure will be back to great shape soon.
,many of their large willow trees did not fair well in the ice storm, most notably the large one at the end of the 1st hole legends. As a right handed player driving from the blue was always risky as the tree blocked the second shot if you ended up too far right. Well not anymore!
Other than that the course was in good shape and is always a great round.
legends
nice course to play if you don't want to drive out of the city.
Tell your pro shop staff to smile!
1st time playing and was somewhat disappointed given all the reviews. Pro shop staff not very welcoming. Staff spraying tees and no warning signs were posted. Playing here was only fair due to on-line discount. I would have been complaining bitterly if I had to pay the full fee. Many other courses just as good for less $ with staff that are pleased to see you.
Good Course. Poor Management
The course was in good shape. However, the overall management of the course was poor. There was no starter on the first hole to ensure proper gaps between tee times. The pace of play was extremely slow and the marshall only came by to say he sped things up when we were on 16. No help there. Also there was absolutely no drinking water available on the course. You think when you pay this amount of money they could give you some water on the course like every other decent course out there.
The first hole is amongst the most challenging first hole we have ever come across!!
We were impressed with the overall condition of the course given the harsh winter we had experienced. We couldn't however say the same thing about the pro shop staff. Some smile would go a long way to make golfers feel welcome!
