Lionhead Golf and Country Club - Legends
About
The Legends Course at Lionhead Golf & Country Club has been ranked before as one of the toughest golf courses in North America and the club boasts that it is the toughest in Canada. Lionhead Golf & Country Club also offers another, less demanding 18-hole course that is equally entertaining, the Masters. Legends features numerous challenges including vast lakes, cavernous sand bunkers, and tall fescue. The layout winds through a rugged portion of the Credit River Valley with steeply rolling terrain and wooded ravines, providing the golf course with elevated, undulating greens. The eighth is a notable hole, both for its beautiful scenery and its difficulty level. It is a long par 3 over a pond filled with tall bulrushes.

Beautiful course
Lionhead is a gem in the greater toronto area. It is a beautiful course that is well maintained. It was a pleasure to play.
Beautiful course. Challenging and a pleasure to play. One of my favorites.
Lionhead - Legends was a pleasure to play again. The course was in great condition, despite being a heavy rain the night before. Pace of play was good. Only had to wait to shoot twice. Challenging course for both the long and short game.
As usual, the halfway house service was painfully slow. Otherwise, the day would be perfect.
Fun to play at a reduced price, though very challenging.
I enjoyed the course at the reduced rate through golfnow.com. My game and budget wouldn't include this course under normal conditions. This was a treat, helped by the fabulous fall weather. Perhaps because the land is low, I found the course to be very wet even though there had been little rain for days. The drainage must be poor. The golf course guide would have been a big help but we were too cheap to spend the $5. Don't know if the full-rate payers get it free but I think the club could and should be more generous. Apart from the wetness, the course was in good shape and a real challenge.
I enjoyed playing a round of golf on this Course
This Course was very challenging to me. I had to think about ball placement and approach shot
Great course
Excellent course and a lot of fun. Greens were very challenging and some very tight approaches, especially on the back nine. I played from the blues and from what I could tell only a few holes would have been stretched out to a ridiculous length by going to the tips. It was tough but I am surprised it is sloped as high as it is. I'm a 18 and shot 98 and that was a lot of three putts. I thoroughly enjoyed it but again, remain surprised that a scratch or single digit player would find this course so tough.
A great day of golf on a challenging course.
Enjoyed playing this challenging course on a beautiful fall day. Really need to be accurate and some long second shots required to clear hazards. Some very difficult pin placements. Good to read hole by hole descriptions on course website for tips.
Course condition
Still crowded. Won't finish 18 holes if tee off after 2:15. Great condition, tough rolling greens. Not sure if the Legends is third toughest course in NA as per 2000 Golf Digest article. Maybe from the Black tees, it is challenging to score in the low 70'. I think Silver Tip in BC would be tougher, Devil's Pulpit also harder.
Overall, condition and scenery can't beat either Legends or Masters. Glad it didn't get acquired by Club Link.
The course is great but expensive
The price deal was a bit too expensive. I think Golfnow.com could make out some deal with the Lionhead - Legend course with better pricing. All other services were great!!
very well designed and difficult but fun course
a very challenging course but lots of fun to play.scenic, very well maintained course and i liked all four sets of tee blocks.very good value for money
Great!
Beautiful, challenging course. Could use more staff in bar/clubhouse.
This course is okay, but over priced for what you get.
This courses greens where not well maintained, the bunkers where also not very well kept. Over all, an okay course to play. Definitely is challenging to ones game, but because of the badly maintained greens. Leaves ones desire to play it again, along with the high fee. To not bother coming back !
Never dissapoints.
Scenic, challenging, in good condition, good pace of play. This course never disappoints.
A Beast From The Tips
LionHead Legends is such a great golf course - from the opening t-shot down into the valley to 18 down to the creek. 150 slope from the tips - not crazy long at 6950yds but a premium on accuracy.
All the holes tighten up as you get close to the greens - condition was good - greens fast and fair - play the proper T's and enjoy one of Canada's best public tracks - looking forward to my next round on Legends.
Over-rated and super slow pace.
Pro shop staff was not friendly (didn't even say thank you), greens were in terrible shape (lots of unrepaired ball marks on all greens), saw the beverage cart once during the round and no marshals to be seen on the course!!! We waited on the group ahead of us on every hole and they had nobody in front of them. Try sending out marshals next time to speed up the pace of play.
Legend course is tough
Legend course is tough and fun, front 9 is challenging, while turns to back 9 it is a different level of toughness, need distance and accuracy both, some part 4s acrossing river actually equal to a par 5 to me if play the blue tee.
a tight and challenging test of your abilities.
A beautiful and difficult test of your mettle as a golfer. It will bite the aggressive and the wayward but surprisingly delight the humble and straight. one word of advise. Play from the right Tees and you will go home happy at being granted a lovely day out on a beautiful course. If your ego takes the best of you, it can be a gruesome experience. .. the course will still be beautiful if you get the time between rough trees water and bunkers :)
Poor conditioning
We had a foursome at Lionhead Legends on Sunday September 15/13 at 9:36 AM. We did not actually tee-off until 9:55 AM, not too bad but still fifteen minutes late. The fairways were strewn with unreplaced divots, most of the sand traps had footprints in them and the greens had an extraordinary amount of unfixed ballmarks.
For $114.00 (tax included) it was overvalued. The layout of this course is very good and, if it is in good condition, it can be a treat to play. I was disappointed with the conditions more than anything.
My experience with Golfnow.com, however, was very positive.
Thanks for the opportunity to vent.
Cheers
Really tough
This course are really tough but funny to play.
The river is in play in a lot of holes.
Good test of your skills
I've played a number of times over the years. It is a very challenging course, hence the 148 slope rating from Blue tees. Overall I am always happy to play there. However some minor issues include having the grass cutter essentially on half of the holes that we played (same guy every time) and more maddening is the lack of sand in some traps. Hole 7 greenside bunker I actually bottomed out and hit mesh with my club (1/2" below surface of sand) causing a major mis-shot.
Overall nice course but could use a few extras for the money
Overall a nice golf course but for the money I would expect:
- gps in golf carts
- complimentary tees should have corporate branding - plain white tees look cheap
- complimentary bottle of water would be a nice welcoming touch
- greens could use attention to repair ball marks
