Lionhead Golf and Country Club - Legends
About
The Legends Course at Lionhead Golf & Country Club has been ranked before as one of the toughest golf courses in North America and the club boasts that it is the toughest in Canada. Lionhead Golf & Country Club also offers another, less demanding 18-hole course that is equally entertaining, the Masters. Legends features numerous challenges including vast lakes, cavernous sand bunkers, and tall fescue. The layout winds through a rugged portion of the Credit River Valley with steeply rolling terrain and wooded ravines, providing the golf course with elevated, undulating greens. The eighth is a notable hole, both for its beautiful scenery and its difficulty level. It is a long par 3 over a pond filled with tall bulrushes.

Wonderful course great value green fee and cart $89.00
For such a great ciurse found staff not that friendly or helpful also pace of play would be helpef if there was a stsrter at hole 1 and gps on carts. Otherwise had a great time
I forgot how slow it was
Kaneff courses spread tee off times by the minimum time that is humanly possible and Lionhead is no different. Once again I experienced one of the slowest rounds of my life. At one point we even had to call the Marshall out to speed up some groups (not sure why he wasn't already out doing his job).
Despite all this we also got asked by one of the greens crew to pause our game for 5 minutes as he sprayed insecticide on the fairway. Another first - thanks Kaneff.
Fantastic Customer Service
Course was in great shape, is very challenging and is worth every cent but the biggest impression was the customer service, When booking on-line I accidentally booked the tee time for the the wrong date, upon arriving with a customer and checking in, they did not have a tee time for me as my tee time was for an early date. Without any questions they picked up on my embarrassment, pretended it was their mistake and very quietly they found a tee time allowing me to save face in front of my customer. They did not charge me for the round that I booked on the wrong date that had also gone by.
Tough track
A few gimmicky par 5's but overall great course that will challenge every club in the bag
Prepare to be humbled
If you are an intermediate golfer like me, you will be humbled. Some of the fairways are very tight and hazards abound - bring some extra balls! To get a good score, leave the driver in the bag and play smart. It will be more enjoyable that way. Overall, it was challenging but very enjoyable. A bit out of my price range but I will go there again on a deal.
Advanced Golfers Only
Great course in Mississauga, Ontario. Very challenging course with some very hard holes. Not recommended for novice players.
Difficult course fun to play. Play early as later in the day the rounds take a lot longer to play.
Good course very challenging from the blue and gold tees. Like the entire course except the Mickey Mouse par 5 15th hole. At the discounted rates on golf now it is great value.
Rushed by other players
Even though the Marshall said that we were on time, if not ahead of time the people behind us were rushing us which did not make our round enjoyable. They hit our cart TWICE with balls which led into a verbal dispute. It put a sour taste in our mouth at the end of the round. The course was great but with people like that on the course it doesn't make it too enjoyable at times.
Complete Target Golf
There are golf courses out there that force golfers to hit to targets that I enjoy but this course was to the EXTREME. Two of the par fives give you very little area to land your drive and two others force you to lay up at 240 yards from the tee before a hazard. I'm ok with the option of laying up off of the tee ONLY if the carry required isn't 290+ yards. Beyond that, the course is extremely difficult and seems to be difficult "just cause" instead of difficult in a strategic way.
I am a 4 handicap and found the course very difficult. Anyone who is above a 10 index length will leave this course very upset and dissatisfied. I am a proponent of the tee it forward program and even when playing from the correct tee's, many will find this course VERY unfair.
Excellent conditions and course layout
We really enjoyed the course, it was in great shape and present some very picturesque holes, pace of play was a bit slow, but given the sweltering heat it was fine...excellent value will definitely play this course again
extremely challenging and equally enjoyable, definitely going to play again.
Well designed public course with good maintenance, a lot of fun and well worth the money. There was a slow group in front of us so the pace was rather slow, but regardless the experience was thoroughly enjoyed. Looking forward to playing again.
Slow
Started players off the front and back, making for a quick front 9 of 2 hours, but the back 9 was 3 hours!!!
Trying to make money has cost them, I won't be returning.
no drinking water
good, a little expensive. the beer was $9 dollars???
An average outing
Great facilities, staff, overall good. Challenging course. Biggest issue was that it appeared that alot of people didn't replace divots not did they repair ball marks on the green. I guess this is due to all the tournaments they host where people don't seem to care. I also thought it was over priced based upon what I received. I'll try a different course next time for sure.
on this day the greens were superb!!
Always love playing this track as it provides a stiff fair challenge each and every time. Greens were absolutely perfect on this day with just the right speed and rolled as true as ever. Would recommend this course to anyone looking for a fun challenging day on the golf course.
Gotta hit all kinds of shots.
First time playing the course and had a fun time. Played from the Whites which allowed me to hit 3W and hybrid from some of the tees and was thankful! (My average drive is about 250). The course doesn't offer big landing areas and if you're not in the fairway, good luck sticking any of the "landing strip" greens. If you happen to catch one of the greens, there aren't any flat sections so you have to be on the right 8x8 quadrant to get a straight uphill putt!
The condition was top notch and I enjoyed my round, but I likely won't rush out to play it again soon. Not a lot of room for error on ANY of your shots, probably better suited for the low handicappers. Sketts, 15HC
Good course to play outside of Toronto
We played the Legends course the day after Canada day so I assume everyone was back to work and the course was open in front of us. I thought the course were conditions were good, being the day that it was there was quite a bit of mowing going on around us, however having played a couple of courses in Niagra the day before, I guess I was expecting something just a bit more for the fee we payed to play it, and from what I could tell we got a pretty nice discount on the rate. Even so I think its a great course and deserves to be played to form your own opinion.
Lionhead is not back, but getting back.
Long round but expected on holiday. Still not as good as it once was and still not worthy of $100 plus per round but I will say the Legends course was in the best shape I have seen it in over the past 3 years. Greens were fast but receptive, long irons would hold but you still got a true roll on your putts. Look for a deal and head back if you have not been in a while. As always the Marshalls are awesome, very friendly and knowledgeable. Play the Masters if you are a high handicapper.
Average/good course, high price.
I've golfed Lionhead many times and have never paid full price. Many courses include range balls and/or GPS, but all Lionhead includes is the cart. At $150 regular price, that's pretty steep. I paid $64 through Golfnow. What's typical with Kaneff courses is they charge for everything. That said, Lionhead is a good course that I will golf again, but it's not worth the high price. The greens rolled well and the fairways were in good condition. The pace of play could have been quicker, but under 5 hours is to be expected in the GTA.
Challenging course
The course needs drinking water. There is no water on any hole. The staff is great. The management is bad. We were there 20 minutes early . There was no one on the course. The management would not let as out even 1 minute earlier. This is very bad PR. The pace was great. We were the only one on the course. No one in front of us or behind us.
No more free drinking water on course @ public or semi private courses! Too many legal liabilities. Clublink and other private clubs only. Common knowledge? But the course was good?
