Lionhead Golf and Country Club - Masters

About
The Masters Course at Lionhead Golf & Country Club is ideal for golfers who don't feel they are prepared to take on the demanding Legends Course at the club, which has been ranked as one of the toughest courses in North America. The Masters layout is similar to golf courses in Florida, with unique bunkers and scenic ponds that meld perfectly with the rolling hills and wetlands that dot the scenic landscape. Its more traditional layout is considered the kinder and gentler of the two golf courses at Lionhead Golf & Country Club, but there are still a fair amount of challenges. The Masters course requires several long carries over water, particularly on the 16th. This infamous par 5 features a green surrounded by water.

Fancy Course, Tough Play
This is a hard course and I wouldn't be able to play it, if I was walking. I played of the white tees and found it challenging. You have to be accurate with your driver and some of the approach shots are even challenging from the fairway. For a better golfer who plays from the Champion Tees, this course plays very long. The course has a very open layout on the Back 9 and the wind can really play a big part especially on the Par 5 - 16th Hole and the Par 3 17th Hole.
Pleasantly Surprised
I was pleasantly surprised with the course. I tend to find myself disappointed more often than now Ruth Kaneff courses, but with this one being their "crown jewel" I can understand that they keep it in fairly decent shape.
Thanks.
Stay away!
We teed off at 1:30 in the afternoon on a beautiful day. We weren't expecting a fast round, as it was the first nice day of the year and the course was full. However, even with that, the pace of play was ridiculous. And there was not a marshal to be seen. When the two groups in front of us paired up and started playing as a 5-some, we'd had enough and packed it in. (That was on 15 on we were already 4.5 hours into the round.) Stopped by the clubhouse to complain. The guy at the desk could not have cared less: "Oh, sorry about that.", and a shrug of the shoulders. And the course looked like it hadn't been maintained since last fall: bunkers a mess, tee boxes completely chopped up, etc, etc. Last time we'll play there.
Not what it used to be
The course still the same but the experience has totally changed.
With All the housing around the course and no tree barrier between the course and houses, Lionhead is no longer what it used to be.
It lost this sense of being this golf enclave that takes you into nature and still close enough.
Lionhead is no longer a Players course. not worth $90 bucks around !
When we checked in I specifically asked if there were Marshalls on the Course ? The answer was yes there are, since Me and my Buddy's have golfed there at least 8 a year since it open and have stuck through thick and thin with Lionhead over the years.. Well now it very obvious they are just trying to make money anyway possible. So We politely waited on the back nine for a five some , 3 carts on the same hole with balloons tied to the cart. After a 3 1/2 front nine we went around the five some to the next only to meet up with 2 guys to finish their spliff, then decide to go find their balls on a par 3 . So we packed it in a went to the club house to see pro. He's gone and the kid behind the counter told there were Marshalls on the course and did nothing for us . So that will be the last time we golf Lionhead.
Good for 1st round for 2016
With warmer temp, (12deg), wind was calm, clear sunny sky, I cannot ask better condition for this season!
It was bit pity there was very slow group in front of us which made 3 groups line-up at same teeground sometimes.
It tooks 4hours and 50 minutes to complete.
It doesn't happen usually at this course... where was the course marshal?
And, green speed was very slow for this course, but this is understandable because of the season.
Overall, I was very happy to play in this time of the year.
December golf
Considering it was December, the conditions were better than I would have imagined. Very much enjoyed my first time playing golf in December.
Great course
As a hot deal this course was really good but otherwise a little too pricey for me. I was a little surprised by the fact that on some holes there were a lot of leaves (in the traps) that had not been blown off and in fact I lost several balls that should have been found, apart from that the course was great!
November Golf!!
Can't belive I was able to get out for such an awesome round November 16th!! Course in grate condition for the time of year...Pro Shop staff were awesome thanks for the generous deals!
It's Fall Golf
I would have rated the course as excellent if not for the leaves... but that is fall golf. The leaves and sun made finding your balls a little more difficult, as thus slowed down the round. I though the conditions of the course were excellent, greens in good shape (players do need to fix their ball marks!!)
Staff
Great staff at this golf club. Everyone is so friendly. The staff in pro shop are really good group.
What a course!
One of the most beautiful courses I have ever played.
I liked that much, that I decided to play it again next day.
Beautiful, Challenging, very well maintained. A gem!
It's a shame hearing from the people I was playing with, that in about 2 years 9 holes are going to end up in new houses.............. What a shame!
Value for the money
Lionhead is a favourite of mine. A combination of layout, pace of play and condition combined. Hard to beat the value in the city!
Worth playing
First nine easier than back nine. Some good challenges, with strategic bunkers being a factor. Got held up on back nine, but pace was OK. Liked no. 16 and back nine overall.
Conditions were excellent
Entire course was in terrific shape. For $70 with cart you can't get better.
CHALLENGING COURSE
The Masters course may not be as revered as the Legends course, but nevertheless it is still a challenging layout with many bunkers, several doglegs, varying elevations. Several holes you have to play target golf to get par and then you can attack other holes. A good experience. Recommended.
Good value through GolfNow
Overall terrific day. Was able to get a good deal through GolfNow and we all enjoyed the value, course & weather.
Lionhead is highly recommended for facilities, course layout and staff attentiveness.
Very good, only with a good deal
I had never considered playing Lionhead simply due to the overinflated rates. We found a great deal for an early morning round (Masters course) and decided to give it a try. Staff couldn't have been nicer and the conditions of the course are very good, though cart path only after some rain the previous day was a bit surprising. Greens were very nice but maybe it's the typical clientele here...seems most can't be bothered to repair ball marks.
This course is typical of other Kaneff courses with several cramped tees next to greens - I expected better at their flagship course. Numerous crossover points could be confusing but signage is helpful.
We did find that the yardage is very far off on many tees - especially the numerous dog legs. My GPS is very accurate for distance points and does not straighten out the dog leg, yet some holes were off by 40 or 50 yds. Why?? Padding the length of this relatively short course?
Would definitely play again ( at the right price) but not at their usual rates.
Poorly managed
Guys in the club house and marshalls don't know what they are doing. Played on a Monday had to leave after 7 holes, rate of play was extremely slow and our round was on pace for 6 hours for a twosome. People in front kept teeing up more shots like it was a driving range. Marshalls didn't do anything, guy in clubhouse only offered 9 hole voucher even though we only played 7 in 2.5 hours. Course was very backed up for a Monday. I enjoy this course but the staff have to step it up.
Sunday Too Slow
Nice course, tough layout. Busy on weekend. Too many golfers that are not experienced enough to handle a challenging course like this-slowed everybody down. Might be better on a weedkay.
