Course condition
Course is well maintained except some greens. Green speed is unpredictable, most of that are too slow.
Great golf for the money
For a good deal this course is well worth it. Hole 6 par 3 had a horrible green that is patched together and the rest of the greens are hard to putt on with a slow and thick grass. That being said it is still worth your time if the deal is right.
The Tale of Two Nines
In general the course conditions were good with the fairway in excellent shape but some of the greens in less the ideal condition. The front nine plays fairly easily with wide fairways and accessible greens. You must be familiar with the course to take full advantage of the front nine. The back nine is another story, the fairway are narrow surrounded by trees. There are some water hazards but not an extraordinary amount. The elevation changes are more pronounced on the back nine. I like the course but I'm waiting the makeover Arlington is planning on doing.
Mitch
Enjoyed this course tee boxes and fairways were in good shape. Green were a little rough and played very slow
Good for those seeking low scores...
The course was in pretty great condition, the fairways are really good. Greens are a little slow, the greens aren't very challenging as most of them look pretty straight.
The 6th hole is pretty much unplayable.
Overall, I think this is a great course for the price. If you are looking for a course to challenge your golf game, then this is most likely not the place.
Very nice course.
Other than one hole, this course has awesome greens. Fairways are in great shape and they tak care of this course very well.
Average
Fairways were in good shape. Greens were very slow. No. 6 is still in really bad shape. Play was fast and price was right.
Decent layout, Greens in rough shape
The course has a good layout with some good elevation change and some interesting holes. It's not a long course, but the greens are fairly small which keeps it challenging. All of the greens on the Saturday I played had VERY long grass. There was not much difference between the fringe and the greens. Many of the greens have been infiltrated by St. Augustine and roll rough. One green looks to have had some fungus issues as it was fairly baren and obviously under repair. The length of the grass was the biggest issue. I will try the course again in a couple of months to see if there is any improvement.
Bad Service
I have played Chester Ditto a lot and for the money it's not a bad value. The course layout is nice and challenging. I booked a tee time yesterday through golf now as I often do and during my round it started to down pour with thunder and lightening, I was completely soak and wet. I went to the club house to get a rain check for my round due to the fact that I only had a couple holes in and my clothes were all wet which left me very uncomfortable. Because I booked through golf now they said they were unable to give me a rain check although it's not the first time this has happened to me here and they have done it for me before but all of a sudden it's now an issue. The Manager advised me to contact Golf Now in a patronizing manner stating how honest a specific employee was and when Golf Now contacts the course to ask if the course was closed, he would say no, and invited me to stick around and wait for the weather to change. This could of perhaps been an option if I wasn't wearing a few extra pounds of rain water. I would of thought me being a loyal customer to the course spending a lot of money on golf and merchandise. The golf spikes I had on along with Chester Ditto logo polo I purchased at the course, and several other purchases throughout the years. I do not appreciate being spoken to in that manner nor do I think in this specific situation did the staff put me first and be sympathetic to the situation. It wouldn't of cost them any money to give a rain check, instead they just lost a loyal customer. I will not be returning to the course for a very long time if at all Lake Arlington has a good layout as well and their greens are significantly better.
Really disappointed
The fairways were in great shape with the exception of a few muddy spots where either lawn mowers or golf carts had done some damage. The pace of play was good during the week and we didn't have to wait around.
I was really disappointed in the greens on almost every hole. They were very bumpy due to lack of care and some looked like they hadn't been properly mowed in a while. On one of the par 3 holes the green is basically nothing but sand with patches of grass. It was horrible.
I probably wouldn't return to play at this course.
Stay in the fairway at all costs
I am a high handicapper so I guess every course is somewhat challenging at this point in my golf career, but "Chester" as I call it is even more so. The front 9 is bearable with some wide open fairways but the back 9 has lots and lots and lots of trees with steep valleys between narrow fairways and if you hook or slice off the fairway just pitch it back into the fairway or it will sound like a ping pong game trying to get your ball out of the trees.
Moderate at Best
I once lived nearby and played this course 2-3 times a week when first opened. I moved several years ago and found other, more convenient venues. This was the first time I revisited in 10+ yrs. The layout is not too bad, a mix of wide open and tight fairways, ample sized greens. However, the course still suffers from hard-pan fairways and HORRIBLE greens conditions. Course desperately needs attention. Believe the City plans major, multi-million dollar renovation to improve conditions - hopefully, most of the attention to the course and not just clubhouse and parking lot. Played 9 holes for $26, wouldn't spend any more to play 18 here, sorry Ditto.
This is a very challenging course!!!
It's a little tough on the amateur, but very well worth the experience. Very nice twilight rate. You won't be disappointed with this course.
Solid Municipal Course, awesome value
For reference, I am not a very skilled player and this was only my second time going to a course with a tee time instead of walking up.
It was a very enjoyable round overall. Open enough in many holes to allow room for error but some holes are narrower with trees that make you choose up and over or punch it through. The hills give elevation changes that put additional challenges on where you place it on the fairway.
I never felt rushed by the group behind us even though we fell behind the group in front of us some. 4.5 hrs was longer than I expected though.
I thought the fairways were cut well and the rough was thick enough to not allow much bounce and roll, but thin enough to usually end up with a good lie and not buried in tangled weeds.
It sucks that the 6th green was in deplorable condition because it is a great picture hole shooting over the creek. Squares of green in the middle of large patches of sand. Putting on it was a waste of time. I didn't feel like any of the other greens were too horrible nor were they PGA tour ready. They were very serviceable and rolled well except for 6.
It was pretty busy as it was the Friday before the 4th and a lot of people had it off. I would have liked to have seen a course marshall once, at least just strolling by on a cart so we would have known they were there. Even though tee times were 8 minutes apart, it still did not feel rushed.
Definitely will be playing there again soon.
Aweful greens
This course has amazing potential. The greens were like putting on a fairway, a bad fairway. Great setup though and im sure a long time ago, or if there was a junior tournament theyd change things but if you are looking for a good challenge course witj EVERYTHING dont bother
What's with all the walkers?
Nice little course for the price. It's in excellent shape given all the rain. The only issue is the green on the par 3 6th hole. Nice elevation changes. Some good open holes to just open up and bomb it. Cheap after 5 and there's plenty of trees for shade. Stay hydrated, grab a cigar and relax for a pleasant round.
So many people walking. I played through 3 different 2-somes.
Good round
I've played this course before. I did notice some of the greens were damaged due to rainy weather days in May and June. The fairways were great. It was a good round of golf!
Good Value for Price
Fairways are the best I have played on since moving to Texas in 2011 as I have played all over. Greens however have some damage and were very slow. Will play again as greens should improve over next few weeks to couple months.
Double Eddies
Only one issue, a twosome kept playing up on us even after the marshal asked them not to hit into us.
Ditto - Arlington Texas
Fairways were good. Greens were horrible. Considering all the water that we have gotten, overall of the course was good.
Would consider going somewhere else for a few weeks to allow the greens to recover from all the water damage.
