Roy Kizer Golf Course
About
This is a 36-hole city-owned operation that features one of Austin's best muni tracks, the Roy Kizer Golf Course, which complements the 1970s Jimmy Clay layout.
Austin's old water treatment facility was transformed by Randy Russell, who had more than 80 acres of lakes and marshland at his disposal when he laid out the 200-acre site. Russell's links-style design is flat, burdened by the wind, and loaded with bunkers. The toughest par is No. 11, which rolls 468 yards into the wind and is shamefully listed as a par 4. Take your bogey on No. 11.

This is Andy. He's in sales and is somehow always 'working' when we're playing golf. He can almost never be tagged on a Facebook golf course check-in during a weekday. He's 'working.' So here's proof that he was out with us playing golf yet again. :) Photo submitted by GordonATX on 09/08/2018

Great winter condition Photo submitted by jimpham on 01/07/2017
Kizer Is a Good Round
The staff was great. He course is in great condition. I prefer less trees, so this is a good layout. Th greens were just right.
R. Kizer in great shape!
Greens & fairways are in great shape. Interesting links layout with some challenging undulated greens. Putting speed was pretty slow compared to B-Bonnet, S-Glen, & D-Springs - typical for Austin Munis.
Some Fairways are in bad shape. Also some greens are bad. Overall I love playing this course again.
Rough shape
The course was in rough shape. Jimmy clay was in better condition and it cost less. Kizer's greens were extrememly disappointing, slow and best up pretty good, there were even patches of green missing on some holes.
Good experience
For only playing this course once I can tell that the people that take cares of this place do an amazing job. The views are splendid and it's very fun playing this course. Lots of water hazards makes this course tough but nonetheless it's very enjoyable.
What A Difference Two Months Makes...(in a poor way)
I've played Kizer dozens of times thru the years and two months ago I wrote that I've never seen the course in better shape. In early part of May the course was lush and the greens were smooth and rolled true. Fairways and tee boxes were perfect.......Well, I played it yesterday and if not for $12.00 GolfNow deal, I would recommend you stay away until either a huge amount of rain hits the Austin area for 7-10 days consistently, or the City decides to actually water the course. Kizer, sadly, is now in very poor shape. The course is completely burned out (yes, I know it's late July) and the greens are hard and bumpy and dead spots everywhere. I play once a week, and despite dry-late summer conditions, there are plenty of better maintained courses in Austin right now. I recommend you stay off Kizer until September/October......or until a huge storm hits the Austin area for a few days straight.
Greens are fading !
This course is typically in as good or better condition as any (Avery, Terra Vista, Barton Creek) but some of the greens are starting to deteriorate, a month ago they were all above average to excellent, today they are average and going down hill fast. I hope they don't have a Forrest Creek issue, that would be a shame, right now the 55 dollar weekend price is bordering on theft.
Great public course
This course is everything you can ask for when it comes to an affordable public golf course to get people playing. The course wasn't too difficult making it a perfect place to people trying to improve their game. The course was in great condition and the green were very receptive.
Best shape ever
I've been playing this course for over ten years. This is the best managed Muni in Austin by far.! All the other Muni's (Municipal Golf Courses) in Austin have lost their greens for various reasons except Roy Kiser.
Well done Roy Kiser management Team!
Great Links Style Course
Great course especially for the money. The fact that you can play a legitimate Links Style course in Austin is amazing. Course has always been in great condition when I've played (played in Dec., March, May, and last Fall). Only problem I've ever run into is pace of play since they sometimes allow fivesomes.
First time playing Kizer
Corse was in very good shape. Greens rolled true. Teed off at 3:37 on and made it around with one other player in 3 1/2 hrs.
Roy Kizer is my new favorite course
We just moved into the East Austin by the airport and discovered we live 11 minutes from this course. Yesterday we tried it for the first time and LOVED it. The layout is fun (challenging but fair) the lunch options were great and there is a Scottish Alehouse for when you finish. Daddy likes very much!!!
Stacked up
This course is in phenomenal shape and is worth every penny (which is a very affordable). With that said, it almost seems like they need to spread out the tee time a little more or drop the number off tee times they have per hour because the course has been very stacked up the last couple times I have played there. The only other thing I would say is they need to be more adamant to their players about fixing their divots, the greens are in great shape and it's a shame to walk up to the green and see pots marks all over them.
Best muni in ATX
Amazing fairways. True greens. Wonderful links style course. PLAY IT IMMEDIATELY! Its my favorite
Great Value
Great course in perfect condition. Pace of play was great overall. Slowed down for about 30 minutes at the turn but then the Marshall must have talked to the slow group because it picked right back up.
Tough day
Kizer is usually not overly intimidating but yesterday was extremely windy - easily 20 mph all the time with gusts substantially higher at times. Only a few holes seemed to be directly into the wind but some of them were the toughest, especially #`14, i believe , a very long and difficult par 5 with difficult bunkers in front of the green. Greens also became somewhat unpredictable, probably b/c the wind dried them out. Started very slow, which is the norm on Kizer, and then got almost fast on the back 9. Course condition was very good - possibly better than usual. Still a good place to play and a fair test but by no means a pushover.
Wow! Very impressed with this public course!
For this being a public course, it was in very great shape! The greens and fairways were quite green, the practice putting green was in great shape also!
Fore warning, while the greens look pretty great, the greens are pretty slow! So remember that when putting!
Course is in the best shape that I have ever seen. Really fun out there right now.
I have played out here a couple of times over the last month. In late May the greens were really good, last week 6/11, they seem to be deteriorating, some much worse than others. I am concerned. Overall, it is still really good, but the 55.00 weekend fee is outrageous.
