Roy Kizer Golf Course
About
This is a 36-hole city-owned operation that features one of Austin's best muni tracks, the Roy Kizer Golf Course, which complements the 1970s Jimmy Clay layout.
Austin's old water treatment facility was transformed by Randy Russell, who had more than 80 acres of lakes and marshland at his disposal when he laid out the 200-acre site. Russell's links-style design is flat, burdened by the wind, and loaded with bunkers. The toughest par is No. 11, which rolls 468 yards into the wind and is shamefully listed as a par 4. Take your bogey on No. 11.

This is Andy. He's in sales and is somehow always 'working' when we're playing golf. He can almost never be tagged on a Facebook golf course check-in during a weekday. He's 'working.' So here's proof that he was out with us playing golf yet again. :) Photo submitted by GordonATX on 09/08/2018

Great winter condition Photo submitted by jimpham on 01/07/2017
A great way to start my day!
Roy Kizer is in remarkable shape; it offers a variety of challenging obstacles without being torturous. A good course to share with friends.
Best Muni in Austin
The course was in the best condition I have seen thus far. The Greens were great besides one hole. The fairways are green and the layout is great. The only thing to worry about is pace of play.
ProSwingTips
Solid course, challenging layout. Fairways and greens were in excellent condition. Much slower greens, perhaps waiting for last cold spell in ATX. But everything rolled true.
Great Layout with challenging wind
I love this course.. yes it's easier than most but it can get very long if the wind is in your face. Fairways are in amazing condition and greens rolled great. It can get super busy here so playing early on a weekday is probably a good idea. Staff very friendly.
Just what I ordered
Haven't played Kizer in a few years, but the best course conditions I've seen there.
Pleasant surprise
During February in Texas, it's rare to find a golf course that not only has decent greens and tees, but plush fairways as well. For the price, this is a great value and I wouldn't hesitate to play here again.
Course in great shape
For being February, and having had some freezes in December and January, the course is in fantastic shape. The greens run a bit slow but are receptive and true for the most part. The grounds crew has done an amazing job with the fairways, bunkers, and short areas. Seriously impressed.
As for the staff, I've had my run-ins with a few bad apples, but the majority are OK. Problem is, the ones with issues are really quite rude. I had a marshall yell and threaten to kick me off the course because my cart wasn't entirely on the path near the tee box...
Pace of play is fine during the week, but slow on the weekends.
Other than that, for $20 or less, this is a steal. At $25, it's fair. Would recommend a trip out there for those prices!
Great Course
This is the best condition of any course I've played in the Austin or surrounding area in the past year. I love the course, but the cashier/starter was very rude. I played the course last week and everyone I dealt with was very pleasant and helpful. The guy yesterday afternoon was just flat out rude. I would've given it 5 stars if it hadn't been for that guy.
Very nice course
It is a very nice link course with no trees in play ... Great condition even for winter... Accommodate for all skill levels as long as playing appropriate Tee box ... Could be more challenge if strong wind ... Highly recommended.
Great greens!
We played on New Year's Day and the course was in great shape, looked beautiful and the greens were outstanding, if everyone would just please repair your divots. The pace of play was a little over 4 hours with a foursome. For the price, this course can't be beat. From the blue tee box it can be challenging for an 18 handicapper but what a great course and a lot of fun. My son had a blast as well. He is a long hitter (300 yards +) and he could hit away and still be challenged.
Compliments to the greens keeper. You are doing an outstanding job! I love this course
If you buy a breakfast taco, get it early because the tortilla turns to dough. No bueno!
Great course
Course has a great layout but is not the most challenging until the wind starts blowing. Some water hazards and some bunkers. Fairways and greens were in great condition when I played. I would recommend to anyone
Acceptable
It is a municipal golf course. The range grinder option is great, very extensive practice facility. The greens quality vary, I've seen them in decent condition, and sometimes in the worst condition (huge grass patches)
Fairways are in decent shape, and some holes will make you suffer and challenge you a lot
My favorite public course in Austin.
Excellent job of overseeding for winter play on both fairways and greens.
Interesting
I will have to play this course again to be able to assess. I dont understand the premium price. The greens are average at best, some are far below average there are the usual overwatered mud bogs around the approach aprons, and some areas where you really wonder, what were they thinking? Lots of water but most of it is avoidable. It's pretty wide open, but challenging. There are some punitive bunkers in just the right spots, so you have to place shots, instead of bombing a driver, which I don't care for (I am not a pro) but I get it. So again, I will have to give it another go before I can rate properly. SAVE MUNY
Excellent day
Great course with some challenging holes. A few of the greens had some disease and there were a few sloppy-wet spots around the greens but overall the course is in good shape.
Greens and fairways are very green
Enjoyed playing this course. The greens which had been in trouble are coming back. What I don't understand is why you start on hole ten. This is not new. If they want you to start on ten, they should just renumber the holes and reprint the scorecard.
good beginner course
good layout with lots of water on sides. forces you to make goo club selection and keep it in fairways. will play again
This course has been in better condition
For mid-October, course conditions were poor. Sand in the greens, greens not rolling true with bobbles, hard fairways and rough all made for a tough round. Has potnetial but needs better upkeep by the city of Austin.
