Roy Kizer Golf Course
About
This is a 36-hole city-owned operation that features one of Austin's best muni tracks, the Roy Kizer Golf Course, which complements the 1970s Jimmy Clay layout.
Austin's old water treatment facility was transformed by Randy Russell, who had more than 80 acres of lakes and marshland at his disposal when he laid out the 200-acre site. Russell's links-style design is flat, burdened by the wind, and loaded with bunkers. The toughest par is No. 11, which rolls 468 yards into the wind and is shamefully listed as a par 4. Take your bogey on No. 11.

This is Andy. He's in sales and is somehow always 'working' when we're playing golf. He can almost never be tagged on a Facebook golf course check-in during a weekday. He's 'working.' So here's proof that he was out with us playing golf yet again. :) Photo submitted by GordonATX on 09/08/2018

Great winter condition Photo submitted by jimpham on 01/07/2017
Lower scores on average make me want to play it more often :)
Roy Kizer is a good, well kept course for almost all skill levels. Sure, water technically touches and/or is reachable on 14 of 18 holes. But I suggest you avoid it. :) Past that, there are a good number of holes with decently open fairways to help with those shots that may not be quite on target. For this reason, RK almost always provides me with one of my lower scores for a round of golf. Now back to that water -- don't get too close to it as there are a number of water moccasin snakes in the area (esp around hole #7). As for tips on specific holes ... I'll just have to let you play the course on your own a time or two. No free lessons here this time around. :)
Great value
Course is pretty easy and other than 1 green it is in better shape than it has been in a long time. Go play it soon.
Very cool experience
Great muni! Well maintained and challenging. I will definitely come back to play.
Best muni course in Austin
Year in and year out, Kizer is the best muni course in Austin. The layout is interesting with water in play on many holes, but also lots of room to bail out. It offers a challenge for skilled players while still being very playable for high handicappers. The course conditions are pretty good, considering the drought in the area. The greens can be hit or miss, but decent when I played, though a bit slow. The staff is super friendly and knows me by name, which means I play there A LOT. 36 holes, Excellent driving range, 3 practice greens and a 4 hole short course. The clay/kizer facility has everything. A gem of Austin public golf.
Great course for the money
It's a links style course that is very well maintained even during the very hot dry days of summer in Austin. The best bang for your buck in Austin.
When you get a deal its not worth it
I booked a great rate come to find out that rate reflected over air rated greens with seed and sand. It was impossible to putt. Waste of time.
Nice municipal links course
Course in good shape, some rough tees. Lots of room with no houses to deal around. A good value at 30 bucks for mid morning but you can save 10-15 bucks booking later
Nice Course. Great for Bombing It!
If you can hit your driver well this is a really fun course. You can really bomb it out here and don't have to worry about trees because they rarely exist. Some pretty cool water features with lots of cool birds. Fun course and potential to shoot a REALLY good score!
Great Fairways/Above average Greens
This is very nice municipal course. Lots of water, somehow I managed to not lose a ball, but the foursome in-front of me had significant issues. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is pace of play. The first nine-holes was wide open then it got backed up and was very slow, no marshall at all that I saw trying to increase the speed. But the course itself is beautiful with a great layout. Shot an 83 just because I stayed out of the water.
Great value
It was extremely windy, which resulted in a higher score, but Kizer is always fun to play.
GReat course, wonderful people, easy to find!
Loved the layout, some challenges, but some simple ones as well, our first time, so we love it!
Great course for the money-almost always in good shape.
I play RK often and feel like it is always a good value for the money. The course is usually in very good condition and provides enough of a challenge (depending on the tees) for any level of play. I think it is the best of the city courses.
Course is very well maintained for a municipal course.

just too slow
Course was in decent shape, and it's an enjoyable layout.......just way too slow play. Granted, it was a holiday, but if you don't overbook, and have marshalls enforcing pace of play, then you should be able to prevent 5 hour rounds. Such a slow pace really takes the fun out of it.
Nice links course. Lots of water, sand and sun.
Tee boxes and fairway's in great shape. Greens in very good condition but were putting a bit slow. Overall had a great day out. Pace of play was steady with no bottlenecks. Marshall was on the course to insure groups were keeping up with one another.
Love hate relationship with Kizer continues.
Took off work early on a Tuesday to play my favorite muny in Austin. Should have stayed at work. Much to my horror there was a "small" skins tournament going off in front of us. Am told there were 40 players. I saw four groups, 3 had 5 somes one had a 6 some, all were playing from the back tees. We started out as a 2 some and became a 5 some by the 5th hole. By the time we had had enough on the 13th hole (already almost 4 hours in) there were two groups on the box behind us and one coming off the green. Marshall drove through and didn't say a word. Did I mention this was a Tuesday afternoon? Oh and the clearly "advanced" players were driving their cart on the par 3 fairway as the marshall drove by. Unfortunately this is not uncommon at Kizer or at Austin courses in general. Love the course, hate the way it is ran by the city.
Good value and a decent course
It was a typical Saturday afternoon pace and I was prepared to play slow. The course was in decent shape for the amount of play it gets. I think that the spring rains have been good for the course. All aspects of the course were acceptable. The greens were pretty slow, but pretty true. Maybe they'll start mowing them a little faster soon.
