Roy Kizer Golf Course
About
This is a 36-hole city-owned operation that features one of Austin's best muni tracks, the Roy Kizer Golf Course, which complements the 1970s Jimmy Clay layout.
Austin's old water treatment facility was transformed by Randy Russell, who had more than 80 acres of lakes and marshland at his disposal when he laid out the 200-acre site. Russell's links-style design is flat, burdened by the wind, and loaded with bunkers. The toughest par is No. 11, which rolls 468 yards into the wind and is shamefully listed as a par 4. Take your bogey on No. 11.

This is Andy. He's in sales and is somehow always 'working' when we're playing golf. He can almost never be tagged on a Facebook golf course check-in during a weekday. He's 'working.' So here's proof that he was out with us playing golf yet again. :) Photo submitted by GordonATX on 09/08/2018

Great winter condition Photo submitted by jimpham on 01/07/2017
OK FOR PRICE
Primary reason I played this course was a promise to my son that if I was in area I would. My son won state hs championship here in 2010. The day I played here was really windy and with the course being a links style course it was a challenge. Also they were in process of sanding all the greens so the greens were a challenge as well. neat layout and would play again, hopefully on less windy of a day.
Fun course!
I will play Roy Kizer again. I will have to wait for a discount or coupon. The normal fees are rather expensive. My wonderful wife loves to play Roy Kizer GC. Have a great day, GOD LOVES YOU!!!
Good conditions but slow play
It was Sunday on the first nice day in 3 weeks, so no surprise that it was crowded and play was slow. Nonetheless, had a good time. Greens playing well, but fairways are typical Texas winter brown with lots of roll. Still, it's worth the money in my opinion.
Ice Storm
Unfortunately, there was a major ice storm in Austin the day I wanted to play and it pretty much brought the city to a standstill. I've played Kizer before and even though it is quite open, it can catch you off guard in many places. Course condition is always good for a muni.
Kizer is my favorite Austin Muni
I always enjoy playing Kizer. It's a very fun course that's pleasing to the eye. I played on New Years day and it was a nice day. Over the last year or so the greens have always been the one thing that's kept Kizer from being really stellar. But on this day they were better than usual. Smooth and quick. Hopefully this will continue into the spring and summer.
Great course - this is a muni?
Great layout for a muni, just a huge piece of property that they've done a really nice job with. New to the area, and really pleasantly surprised this is our local south side muni. Can't wait to play it again.
Challenging for my skills but a 'good' challenge in that it stretches me.
An overly crowded Friday causing a slow pace. Heavy rains required 'cart path only play' adding to the challenge.
Beautiful Fall Day Golf.
The marshlands, birds, and beautiful weather make this the course to play.. Regardless of what you score..!!
Great Course at a Great rice
My wife and me had a great time playing this course, and would highly recommend it. The course was busy the day we played, but the pace of play was wonderful and the groups did not run up unto one another like I have experienced at other courses. So for a good time I would highly recommend this course.
Course is in great condition right now
Roy Kizer is a great links style course in Austin. It is exposed to the wind so can dry out but especially when it has rained it becomes an outstanding course
Rained most of the day but course was playble and overall good shape.
Overall good course for a golf outing with your friends.
What a terrific golf course
Roy Kizer is in great shape, considering the Texas Drought, the tee boxes, fairways, greens are in remarkable shape, kudos to the staff and green keeper.
well maintained
water station in every hole would be a plus and green speed should be the same as the practice putting greens. the clearing of 17th hole is acceptable and gives a challenge for long hitters to hit green in 2.
Old favorite
One of the courses I spent a lot of time hacking away (learning) how to play the game. Really enjoyed the day challenging pin placements, and was very surprised by the pace of play. Which was great all day. Normally, feel cramped by in front and behind, but rarely waited at a tee box. The back nine has challenging holes which keep your ego in check, and are still fun. Get out there when you can, tee times on weekends are generally tough.
Interesting links style
Course in better shape than other side of complex. Heard frequent player state this course is more expensive than other course and better maintained. Staff cordial. greens were shaggy due to water conservation.
Course in very good condition!
All was good, the greens seemed rather slow! Would prefer a faster putting surface.
Great Course to play.
Always enjoy playing this course. The staff is friendly and the course is usually in good shape. Also, has some challenging holes.
Nice condition
I was pleasantly surprised how green it was with the drought we are in now. Also all the water hazzards were at the proper levels. Thankfully I did not visit them!
Lower scores on average make me want to play it more often :)
Roy Kizer is a good, well kept course for almost all skill levels. Sure, water technically touches and/or is reachable on 14 of 18 holes. But I suggest you avoid it. :) Past that, there are a good number of holes with decently open fairways to help with those shots that may not be quite on target. For this reason, RK almost always provides me with one of my lower scores for a round of golf. Now back to that water -- don't get too close to it as there are a number of water moccasin snakes in the area (esp around hole #7). As for tips on specific holes ... I'll just have to let you play the course on your own a time or two. No free lessons here this time around. :)
