Roy Kizer Golf Course
About
This is a 36-hole city-owned operation that features one of Austin's best muni tracks, the Roy Kizer Golf Course, which complements the 1970s Jimmy Clay layout.
Austin's old water treatment facility was transformed by Randy Russell, who had more than 80 acres of lakes and marshland at his disposal when he laid out the 200-acre site. Russell's links-style design is flat, burdened by the wind, and loaded with bunkers. The toughest par is No. 11, which rolls 468 yards into the wind and is shamefully listed as a par 4. Take your bogey on No. 11.

This is Andy. He's in sales and is somehow always 'working' when we're playing golf. He can almost never be tagged on a Facebook golf course check-in during a weekday. He's 'working.' So here's proof that he was out with us playing golf yet again. :) Photo submitted by GordonATX on 09/08/2018

Great winter condition Photo submitted by jimpham on 01/07/2017
Very fun to play
Had a lot of fun. The lack of trees are deceptive. Looks easier than it plays.
Nice course
Course in great shape. Greens were slow but in great condition.
Kizer....thumbs up
they're getting the course ready for the city championship...and it is in excellent shape...I wish they would put this kind of effort into Clay ( the companion course) and restore it to respectability again.
Midday summer
Played midday and never had to wait once. Great golf now rate and course was in great condition considering the draught.
excellent condition
Despite very heavy rain the night before, the course
played very well. There was only a bit of pooling on a couple of fairways, most noticably #1(early in the morning). The condition was excellent, especially
considering this was mid-July in Texas. Greens were immaculate, fairways lush and well-groomed.
bumpy greens
This is a beautiful course, but overpriced unless you get a hot deal through golfnow. The fairways are excellent, the layout is challenging with some memorable holes and one of the toughest par 4s in Austin (#11). Would have been a lot more fun except the greens were very bumpy. which is not the norm for Kizer. It is a great course and I definitely recommend it. On a side note, played again 2 days later and greens were still bumpy, but learned how to play them on the back nine and shot much better.
Good public golf course
This is probably the better of the Austin Municipal golf courses. Nice and open fairways. Greens are reasonable. The staff is nice. I love this course and play here once a week.
Great course, well maintained
This is a muni course, but it is well maintained. Normally, they charge way to much for me to play, but got a good rate and the course is in great shape. Watch out for the last 3 holes, they will ruin a good round:-). Greens are very good, and fairways immaculate. rough is playable. Avoid the trees.
would be great if it weren't for the greens
I played on Saturday 6/28/14 and surprisingly the course was not crowded at all. We played in 3 hours flat which is unheard of on a Saturday at Kizer. It was great. The fairways also were very nice. They had recently punched them but they had come in nicely and were in really good shape. The greens, on the other hand are a different story. They had grass on them (unlike 5 weeks ago when they were mostly bare)...but they were slow and a little bumpy. The grass doesn't look uniform. It seems to be growing in every direction. I don't know what their problem is with the greens but it's a constant problem. The course would be so much better if the greens were simply good. It's still a very fun course to play but the greens continue to disappoint.
Great links style course
Good for all skill levels. The city keeps the course in great condition year round.
good course management
In my opinion, the best public course in Austin.
The tee box, fairways and greens were all green and hopefully will stay that way throughout the cruel summer weather here in Austin.
Nicest Public Course
Very nice public course and the fairways were in excellent shape. Greens were nice as well. Good value for the course. We played from the black tees which made it a challenging course. Will certainly play here again.
Nice course
Course is in good shape. Good place for a Saturday round.
This Muni is a quality round
Can be windy which makes it an extra challenge. We played an extra 9 and the wind died down, so we we played the back tees. Good time golfing!
Enjoyable
The fairways were great, but the greens had been sanded and for that reason no 5 stars. Marshall rode around , but didn't really "marshall". Two group backup in places. The views are spectacular and just being out there was great. Staff was relatively friendly compared to other times I had been out there.
great value, pretty course
Th course was in excellent shape except for the greens, which were fair. This is the only reason I did not give a 5-star. For a cheap public course, it was great!
Great condition!
With out a doubt the very best manicured Municipal course i ever played. Fairways spectacular and design unique and different, greens very easy to putt. Fantastic for all levels of play.
Crazy Round
First 6 holes were beautiful, and everyone stayed away because of impending weather. Get to hole 7 and the wind picked up, thought the flags were going to break. Rain started picking up around hole 11. We were about to head in after we finished hole 14 and everything suddenly cleared up. Pretty sure we were literally the only people on the course at the time, but was playing really well and didn't want to lose a personal best.
Roy Kizer
Nice course, greens were ok but bumpy, putts don't actually go where the read says they will. Firways nice, grass growing in from winter.
Any level can play
course can be played by anyone, beginners and up. There is water and sand. Wide open fairways.
